Fun at Summer Recreation Program

Fun at Merrick's Summer Recreation Program!

Running for more than 30 years, the Merrick School District once again hosted its summer recreation program for students. Approximately 220 children throughout the district participated in the multidisciplinary program, which included classes in needlepoint, gym, STEAM, crafts, arts, computers, clowning and jewelry-making.

Throughout the program, students also participated in spirit days, such as “Decade Day,” “Pajama Day,” and “Group-uplet Day,” and took part in the program’s first annual Gaga Ball tournament, as well as a field day.

The program, coordinated by teachers Melissa Robinson and Kelly Merkle, is staffed each summer by certified teachers and counselors. Not only does it provide an opportunity to keep kids active during the summer months, but it affords students the opportunity to socialize with students from other schools throughout the district. For incoming kindergartners, it offers them the chance to acclimate to the elementary school setting.
