Commuter Alert: Congestion Pricing

New York Pushes Ahead on Congestion Pricing

In effort to raise billions in revenue for public transit projects and significantly decrease traffic into Manhattan, the MTA releases details on the proposed Congestion Pricing.

Nassau County Legislator Steve Rhoads addresses his disapproval of the Congestion Pricing in a press conference and asks Nassau County residents to get informed on what Congestion Pricing means and voice their opinion.

Legislator Rhoads told the crowd that Congestion Pricing is disguised as a way to reduce environmental impacts and cars on the roads, but in reality it is simply a $1 billion dollar a year tax directly on the backs of suburban commuters. Nassau County is already one of the highest taxed counties in the nation and with inflation and gas prices continuing to soar, we are now being taxed to go to work, to medical appointments or even just enjoy a day with family and friends in New York City.

The tolls could be as high as $34.50 per day (for non E-ZPass holders) during peak hours, so for the average person who goes to the office 5 days a week, you can expect to pay over $800 a month just to go to work. This is ridiculous. Residents are continually being taxed out of New York. Congestion Pricing is just a tax on suburban commuters.

Legislator Steve Rhoads invites residents with questions to call his office at 516-571-6219. Look for an online petition calling for an immediate elimination of this new tax. It will be up on the Nassau County website soon. https://www.nassaucountyny. gov//515/District-19---Steven-D- Rhoads
