Maroochy regional bushland Botanic Gardens

THESE beautiful gardens are located at Palm Creek Rd Tanawha. Set on 82 hectares there is much to explore from the Rain Garden, the beautiful sculpture garden to a couple of longer trails. You can easily spend a morning or afternoon wondering around with detailed maps to guide you. These gardens are also home to 14 Koalas so you might be lucky enough to see one.

I have been a couple of times with the kids and we like to start at the Bushland Sculptured Garden which is breathtaking with its manicured lawns and pathways. All sculptures have a plaque with the artist’s name and an interpretation of their work. This is so good for the kids giving them and appreciation of the arts while having fun. I think this is a very romantic part of the gardens where lovers picnic and plenty of weddings have been held. This is a 700m circuit taking approximately 30min’s.

We then head to the Lagoon Walk it’s 900m and takes around 25-35min’s. There is a lovely little bridge to cross and many varieties of trees including Grey gum, Bloodwood and Blue gum - remember to look out for those Koalas. This brings you out onto a lovely open grassed area where we throw down the picnic blanket for lunch.

From the wide open lawns we head off to the kids’ favourite part of the gardens. The Whipbird Walk - a 600m circuit - is such a great place for kids to explore and discover a magical wonderland. With a large whipbird nest, a small children’s library, stepping stones and plenty more for them to make their own magical world. This is a place where parents can sit back and relax while the kids enjoy the environment around them.

After the Whipbird Walk is the Rain Garden, Contemplation Garden, Rock Pools, Rare and Endangered, Fern Glade, Mossy Log Walk, and the Ephemeral Wetlands. And a couple of longer walks - Creek Walk 1.3km, and Upland Bushwalk ,2.1km.

The Upland Bushwalk and Creek Walk are going to take you a good 1.5 to 2 hours. Along these trails we’ve seen many bird varieties the Golden whistler, Pale-headed rosella and Variegated Fairy-wren to name a couple. As usual they are very fast and I wasn’t able to capture a good photo. From walking through gumtree’s to going over a couple of creek crossings which changes to mossy rocks and beautiful Cabbage tree palms. The terrain is just beautiful.

These gardens with plenty of large covered areas with tables and chairs area great place to celebrate that special occasion. Most of the Garden is wheel chair friendly. There are no BBQ’s and dogs are NOT permitted. They also have heaps of events from musicians playing once a month, kid’s activities, guided walks and more. Please check out their web page for details.

I highly recommend these lovely gardens, and as always remember your hat, sunscreen and water. Happy Hiking!

Just an update on the Noosa Trail from Pomona to Cooran. The trail is now completed and is fantastic, all the old signs are down and replaced with new ones. It is now very easy to follow.

I also would have completed the Bloody Long walk, I’ll let you know how it went in the next edition. Thanks for all your support …. If you would like to donate the walk is raising money for Mitochondrial syndrome; all you need to do is go to my web address. https://event. bloodylongwalk.com.au/s/86146/103980/e

If you’ve got other pooches at home, we’ll need to meet at time of my adoption, but actually having a doggie mate would be great for me. Because of my breed and temperament, my new home will have to be free of chickens, cats or other small animals.

That said, I’m ready set go for the start of my best forever life!

GIVE A SHEET FOR THE PLANET - LINEN AND CLOTHING COLLECTION

CLEAN out your cupboards and drawers, Noosa Council have an awesome Linen and Clothing collection happening on June 11, World Environment Day, at Tewantin State School.

All Linen will get recycled and turned into new products (an Australian first) and the Clothing will get sold through Vinnies. Over 1 million tonnes of textiles end up in landfill every year and that’s just Australia! On average, an Australian household has around 20kg of old and worn linen. For every kilo of unwanted textile waste processed by Blocktexx, 30kgs of CO2 emission is avoided. If we fill a truck load, 10 tonnes of textile waste will be diverted from landfill, removing carbon emissions equivalent to taking 65 cars off the road for a year. We are inviting you to clean out our robes to clean up the globe on Sunday, June 11.
