Sip and Social: Strengthening community bonds

Connecting neighbours and building resilience one sip at a time in the Noosa hinterland

It began as a beacon of hope for floodaffected hinterland residents - a way to rally together to heal and build resilience in the wake of the 2022 floods. But the success of Cooroy’s Sip and Social has been so great it continues today. Recognising the complexity of disaster recovery, Sip and Social welcomes newcomers and locals from across Noosa’s flood impacted hinterland as a way to get to know their neighbours and form important connections.

Hosted by Cooroy’s Busstop Espresso, the popular Council initiative is delivered with the support of the state and federal governments.

“Sip and Social is about forming connections and bringing people together because that is what makes a healthier, more resilient community, and aids in recovery,” says Tehya Grimes, Noosa Council’s Community Recovery and Resilience Officer.

For Beth and Rob Noy, owners of Busstop Espresso Cooroy, being part of Sip and Social has been a source of pride.

“We’re really proud to be part of it and to see locals coming together is really special,” said Ms Noy.

Sip and Social is held Saturday mornings from 9:00 to 10:00am at Busstop Espresso, 201 Mary River Road, Cooroy for residents in flood impacted areas.

This project is jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland governments under the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements.
