The evening was a huge success. Total funds raised on the night was $8160, helping Kara to further her cancer treatment. Thanks to businesses from Brisbane to Gympie who generously gave prizes for raffles and a silent auction, to the Cooroy RSL for hosting the night, and to those with big hearts who opened their wallets and just gave.

Local sunshine coast band Supersoaker provided fantastic entertainment for the evening ensuring everyone was in party mode. Kara’s family and friends have ongoing fundraising events. Good friend Natalie Malseed will be running in the 5km Jetty to Jetty Fun run at Redcliffe on Sunday - July 18 in support of Kara.

Anyone wishing to support Natalie in Kara’s Fight for Life Campaign may donate online at www.mycause.com.au on the 'Jetty to Jetty 5km fun run for Kara Harry’s fight for life'. Kara with Natalie Malseed and Sarah Holmes

DEGUSTATION A BLOCKBUSTER NIGHT

Jimmy and Tam (Queensland winners of The Block) won the lucky door prize on the night presented by Kim, Saw & Mill (left) and Danny, 20 20 Distillery, (right).

Some of the degustation guests enjoying their Gin and food pairings at Saw & Mill on April 30.

THE idea of a gin and food pairing came about one night while chatting at a Chamber of Commerce networking function. Anthony (Saw & Mill) and Brian (20 20 Distillery) were eating canapés that Saw and Mill had prepared for the function. Brian mentioned “if you ever want to do a degustation let me know” and Anthony called him the following week.

“I just love gin,” Brian enthused “its so versatile, it can be sweet or savoury, the possibilities with gin are just endless. There’s 110,000 Australian botanicals that no one has even tried yet but that’s a conversation for another time.

“It was great to sit down with Anthony, Kimberley and their chef as we went through some ideas of recipes to cook and what gins to pair with the dishes. The cocktails and gin and tonics were all from of our existing menu at the 20 20 tasting bar.

“It was an awesome experience and one that I am sure we will do again, hopefully next time Covid border closures don’t prevent me from attending.”

INAUGURAL SUNSHINE SOUNDS SUCCESS

RAIN failed to dampen the spirits of the crowd who delighted in the 21 acts who performed for the inaugural Sunshine Sounds Festival at Eumundi.

So many musical highlights - incredible performances by Kate Miller-Heidke, Miiesha, Georgia Corowa, Katie Noonan, The Dreggs, Sahara Beck, Cigany Weaver, Busby Marou … and the list goes on!

Andrea Kirwin performed with the Yama Nui Social Club while the last act Sunday night was the awesome Band of Frequencies.

Artistic director and producer for Sunshine Sounds Festival Katie Noonan was thrilled at the success of the event.

“Despite the somewhat challenging weather, our amazing team delivered a sensational community event”, Katie said. “It’s great to give Queensland artists the chance to perform live again, and for our community to come together for a familyfriendly festival.”
