OFF GRID LIFESTYLE EXPO MARK your diary! September 3 and 4 at Goomeri Showgrounds. There will be lots to see and do – from kidlets to seniors and everyone in-between. Following on from our successful event last year at Imbil, we are very excited about bringing our event to the lovely township of Goomeri. Over 70 exhibitors are booked in, but we do still have room for more. Our focus is two-fold: how to live off grid with practical equipment and practical knowledge but also how to

create a lifestyle to be your own boss and create abundance through crafting and creating. Workshops and activities, a huge line-up of presenters and plenty to see and do over the weekend. Gympie Regional Council, through their Community Development Grant program, is supporting our Free ‘Saturday Night @ the Expo’ event. See Utopian Fire and Vic Pascoe from 6pm till 8.30pm. Tickets are essential. Food and drinks will be available for purchase. More info and bookings on our website.

Our sponsors are RedEarth Energy Storage Gympie, Dan Vanderhoek from Century 21 – and Eco Convos podcasts, Habitance Architects, Magicality and Fat Boys Scooters. All tickets for entry, workshops, activities and the Saturday night event are available online. Tickets at the gate or online and are $10 per adult per day or $15 for the weekend. Under 16 are free. Everyone is welcome. More information at www.offgridexpo.com.au or phone Di 0419 224 628 or Dee 0434 630 510 and we can help with tickets.

THE 2022 ZEN DURO PROJECT YEAR 6 students from Sunshine Beach State School (SBSS) were recently involved in the ZenDuro 2022 research project about the use of swappable batteries for electric vehicles (EVs). It was a part of Zero Emissions Noosa Inc.’s Race to Zero program, funded by Noosa Council. The research project was led by John Fuller, a member of Zero Emissions Noosa Inc. (ZEN Inc.), in conjunction with Hamish Black, a year 6 teacher at SBSS. John Fuller explained “We started with the swappable battery concept that Gogoro operates in Taiwan and applied that thinking to using swap and go batteries in the Noosa and wider Queensland community.” “From this project, we proved that you could drive to many places in Queensland in an EV with a swappable battery, if there were enough communities

that used this swappable model. The advantage of this system is that it is fast as there is no waiting time to recharge the EV battery. The driver just swaps the battery and off he or she goes,” John added. According to Hamish Black “The project was an ideal way to cover many different parts of the curriculum.” The project culminated in a presentation event at the recent ZEN Inc. Noosa EV Expo June 2022. Vivien Griffin, ZEN Inc. EV Expo Coordinator, introduced the students to Janus Trucks at the Expo as they use swap and go batteries. All involved agreed this project was inspiring and the students were incredibly enthusiastic! It was a great team effort – students, teacher, mentor and ZEN Inc.! www.zeroemissionsnoosa.com.au
