model process

areas modeled in AutoCAD are assembled in rhino. Then, scaled into real printing scale (1/2000). Proceeding with the extrution of 0,3mm of sidewalks (previous polylines drawn in autoCAD), and extrution of 3cm of the base. in order to have the separated printing sheets, we did the boolean diference using boxes in the same place that other sheets.

after the boolean difference, we prepared this sheet of 5cm of foam. All polysurfaces (solid objects) are converted into a mesh, and then joined with join mesh command. All duplicated objects are erased. final printig file has 3 layers: -mesh: all the geometry to print. -borders: in order to transmite into the milling machine where are the limits to cut the hole model. -sheets: original foam piece required.

In order to make the roads and paths in the mountain of Montjuic, at first we worked on the drawings in autocad. We have created new polylines in the middle of the roads and paths that already exist. We will use these new lines, as they are shown in the second picture, in the file of the 3d model of Montjuic. We saved the file as a dxf file so that we can imported in the Rhino.

The first step was to import the dxf file that we have made before as we can see in the left picture. After that using the command project and working on the top view, we projected the roads and paths to the topography(right picture). To see the way that the roads are at last in the mountain,we use all the 4 viewports.

After the boolean difference, that we have done also for the other sheets,we prepared the sheet for the Montjuic of 15cm of foam. All the objects are converted into a mesh and then we join all the meshes into one. The final file for printing has 5 layers: -the mesh -the paths -the roads -the sheets -and the boarders

Here they are represented the final sheets with the hole area of Montjuic and Port, splited in proper pieces so that they can fit in the dimensions of the sheets.

in order to recicle some rests of others areas, we fitted the 2 first sheets into these measured rests.

Because trim mesh is difficult to manage, we left the hole area in the file. There are two layers in this file, one to indicate the area to cut, and another one for the measured rests.
