The Government of Saskatchewan has announced details of the consultation process for the creative industries. The consultations are designed to gather ideas for the creation of a comprehensive strategy to advance the commercial objectives of the creative industries including the adoption of new and emerging digital technology. “Our government is committed to working with industry leaders to grow the creative economy,” Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Kevin Doherty comments. “Through the consultations, we want to engage people and businesses in creative industries such as commercial music and sound recording, writing and publishing, craft and visual arts, film and multimedia including animators and game developers and theatre and dance businesses.” The Ministry of Parks, Culture and Sport will lead the consultations with support from the Ministry of Economy. 4-H Achievement Submitted by the Goodeve 4H Beef Club What a year! The Goodeve 4H Beef Club wrapped things up with their Achievement Day in the sun, on July 3rd. The Judge for the day was Lee Stillborn from Balcarres. The Olynyk family and Crescent Creek Angus hosted the event and the spectators were able to enjoy the day under the cool shade of the farm’s large old trees and a cool breeze. The day’s show started at 10:00 a.m. and continued until noon, when the members, spectators and guests were treated to a sandwich potluck, which included a delicious pork roast courtesy of Kim Olynyk as well as watermelon, ice cream and a large variety of squares, cookies and cakes. After lunch, the show carried on until 2:00 p.m. when the yearly awards were handed out to deserving club members. It was a challenging year. With some new members “learning the ropes” and some of our most seasoned “veterans” in university, but still wanting the 4H experience, it was an exciting time for all. “Creative industries” supported Con’t from Page 1. Consultations will start with the release of a discussion paper and key questions that can be found at www.pcs. gov.sk.ca/culture. Visitors to the website can read the discussion paper and leave their feedback. Building off of the on-line discussions, a series of focus groups will follow starting in late August and continuing into the fall. Specific dates, locations and participants are still to be determined.
MLAs Mark Docherty, Laura Ross, Jennifer Campeau and Darryl Hickie were asked by the Premier to participate on a Cabinet Committee on Creative Industries and to assist with the consultations. They will help with the gathering of input and attending the focus group sessions. The consultations will focus on exploring concepts like pulling all these creative enterprises under a common umbrella, new uses for the production studios, a
non-refundable tax credit and other ideas such as how to create a critical mass, how to collaborate and innovate using digital technology and how to partner and make sustainable investments in the future. “Moving the Creative Industries Forward consultations are about planning for the future; about addressing the creativecommercial gap,” Doherty adds. “These consultations will position the creative industries to be part of the province’s

Growth Agenda which is important to strengthening our quality of life and building an even stronger Saskatchewan.” As work on an industrywide plan continues, the Government of Saskatchewan is maintaining stable funding for culture. PUBLIC NOTICE Bylaw No. 8 - 2012 Rural Municipality of Good Lake No. 274 Pursuant to The Planning and Development Act, 2007, the Council of The Rural Municipality of Good Lake No. 274 hereby gives notice of its intention to amend Zoning Bylaw No. 2-1984 by enacting Bylaw No. 8 - 2012. Bathrooms and kitchens are tied (at 43 per cent) as the top home improvement projects this year, while basements are gaining in popularity, according to the 19th Annual RBC Homeownership Poll. Three-in-10 of us (33 per cent) are considering making improvements to our basements, up 20 percentage points since 2009. “This increase may be a natural progression since many Canadians may have already completed bathroom or kitchen renovations— the projects that typically add the most value to a house,” says Richard Goyder, vice president of Personal Lending at RBC.
