"From day one, I knew that I would find a place for myself here at YCP and that they would help me prepare for my future, wherever that may be." After working through three majors, the fourth seemed to be the charm for McKenzie Raver. When she took a philosophy class with Dennis Weiss, Ph.D., she decided to make Philosophy her last major. "I wanted to be able to use my brain and question things and [try] to find the answers to the questions everyone wants to ask but might be afraid to explore. I’m so glad that I finally figured out what I want to do for the rest of my life. This is what I want to make a living out of doing." When Raver completes her Philosophy major, and several graduate degrees, she hopes to become a practicing lawyer. However, she would also like to return to academia to teach college students. Raver received the 2015 and 2016 Trevethan Scholarship Award from the English and Humanities Department. Currently, she is a First-Year Seminar Fellow. She is also the President of the Philosophy Club at the College. "I think our club is unique because, due to the nature of the club, people come from a variety of majors, and it is a very diverse type of group." Raver has been involved with the first Annual Philosophy Student Symposium, Everyday Philosophy, as well as being involved with the Career Development Office, Accepted Student Days, YCP Open Houses, and many other events, including the 2015 Literature and Film Association (LFA) Annual Conference last October directed by YCP Professor Ian Olney, where she was on a panel called Morality at the Movies, chaired by Professor Weiss. This October, she presented at the 2016 International Writing Centers Association Conference in Denver with Professor Sam Waddell. – KB
