THE BEGINNING

In the mid-90s, Vijay Eswaran and Joseph ‘Japadas’ Bismark, two young men from drastically different backgrounds, came together in business and friendship. After some success in network marketing with an American company that was doing very well in the Philippines, the two joined forces and their group – the V Team – soon became the largest revenue earner for the company. At one point, they realised that the American firm was being dishonest with them and, after all efforts to resolve the situation failed, the V Team and a few of their leaders sat around Vijay’s kitchen to discuss the next steps. What were they going to tell their team? They did not choose the easy way out – with the fate of 1,500 team members at stake and a liability of over $250,000 US, the two young men and their core team members decided to start their own company. On that fateful day in September 1998 at the Philippine Stock Exchange Centre (formerly Tektite Towers) in Manila, the company known today as QNET was born. And as they say, ‘The 12

V Partner Sathi Senathirajah The most fun thing that I got from this industry is that I have friends in more than 150 countries. I land in Africa, people pick me up from the airport. They take me home. They feed me. Any country I go to, I have friends because of this industry. We had seen lots of ups and downs in our married life. We dealt with many financial constraints. Perhaps all those hardships played a role at a subconscious level in our determination to succeed. Our decision to join QNET after discovering it proved right in this regard. We have experienced immense success in this business.

Life before QNET was pretty ordinary. I woke up every day, went to work to earn just enough money to support myself and my family. I did not even think about big plans! At QNET, my dreams became goals, with deadlines. Furthermore, knowing that my team see me as their role model made me set another goal— to become a better version of myself so I can continuously inspire them. I now wake up with a much bigger purpose.

The beauty about being in QNET and this business is that you don’t need everyone to understand you. You just need a handful of people to get what you are doing in the beginning, and more and more people will understand you as long as you are firm and stubborn and believe in yourself and believe in what you’re doing. A flagship project of the Foundation is Taarana, a school for children with special needs in Malaysia that provides much needed support to differently abled children and their families. QNET employees and IRs actively help with fundraising for the school, and many employees also make contributions on special occasions, such as personal birthdays and anniversaries.

In India, RYTHM Foundation currently supports projects all over the country in the area of education for children, economic empowerment for rural women and youth development.

In the sub-Saharan Africa region, RYTHM Foundation currently supports projects across Senegal, Ghana, and Tanzania. These projects support learning and literacy programmes for children, sustainable agriculture and fund awareness programmes on the health risks of Female Genital Mutilation.

SOUTHEAST ASIA PROJECTS

In Southeast Asia, RYTHM Foundation currently supports projects across Malaysia, Indonesia and Vietnam that provide much needed help to children with special needs, children from low income families and vulnerable young boys and girls. Previously, the Foundation has completed projects in Laos, Cambodia, and Myanmar, focussed on the education of children, and the empowerment of young girls through skills training programmes.

SRI LANKA PROJECTS

In Sri Lanka, RYTHM Foundation supports projects all over the country in the area of youth development and empowerment, community building, and special needs. 47

PJ CITY FOOTBALL CLUB – OUR HOME TEAM Action speaks louder than words for Petaling Jaya City Football Club (PJ City FC) when they made their debut in the Malaysian Super League in early 2019. The team, under the purview of the QI Group and sponsored by QNET, finished a respectable eighth out of twelve teams and have made the cut to remain in the league for the 2020 season. Nicknamed “The Phoenix”, this team aims to be a unifying presence for Malaysia, especially for the local community of Petaling Jaya that inspired its name.

CHETAN KORADA — DRIVING IN THE FAST LANE Chetan Korada is Asia’s first motorsports driver with prosthetic feet to race professionally and to have won a championship. Due to a birth deformity when he was a new-born, Chetan underwent bilateral amputation from the ankles down. Early in life, he accepted the fact that prosthetics were an integral part of his existence. This realisation helped him quickly adapt to the world around him and he went on to pursue his dream of becoming a professional motorsports racer. He is the only differently abled driver in the world to be driving a non-modified race car. Chetan has been racing professionally since 2007 and has participated in and won several championships. He has worked with teams such as WSRF (Wallace Sports Research Foundation), Rams Racing and Meco Motorsports in the past. He finished as the runner-up in MRF FMSCI National championship 2015 (Formula LGB 1300) and Second Runner-Up in MRF FMSCI National racing championship 2017. QNET has always believed in building champions. Chethan’s extraordinary passion and never-saynever spirit caught our attention and we have been supporting him since 2011. His impressive achievements in motorsports coupled with his multiple talents as an entrepreneur and motivational speaker make him a perfect role model for young people from ordinary families.
