Welcome

Welcome to The Menuhin Hall’s 2023 Spring/Summer season. Alongside The Yehudi Menuhin School’s traditional Showcase concerts – including a Debut Showcase for pupils who have yet to appear at The Menuhin Hall –our world-class concert venue plays host to a number of exciting events, including a visit from the National Youth Harp Orchestra, the return of Gary Hoffman and a concert featuring the award-winning Sitkovetsky Trio, who will perform side-by-side with YMS pupils.

Of particular note is the memorial concert for Margaret Norris, who was a devoted teacher at the School for over 30 years. The impact that she had on generations of young musicians will be represented by the return of many YMS alumni for a moving tribute to Margaret’s remarkable musical legacy.

Our annual Founder’s Day concert features YMS staff performing alongside pupils and recent graduates, including the 2020 BBC Young Musician of the Year Strings winner, Coco Tomita.

The School’s Summer Festival, which also marks the launch of the School’s 60th birthday celebrations, has been given a major revamp this year. There will be solo performances spread throughout the summer term in a Friday-evening Summer Solos series celebrating the culmination of the pupils’ work over the course of the year. Then the Summer Festival itself will showcase the diverse range of musical activity which defines YMS, including orchestral concerts, a Family Day centred around Saint-Saëns’ The Carnival of the Animals (featuring new texts and artwork produced by the School), chamber music recitals, solos from students in their final year of study and appearances by two of our Associate Artists, Maxim Rysanov and Alexander Sitkovetsky. In a spectacular Festival Finale we will round off the year with a performance of Beethoven’s monumental Symphony No. 9 in a special arrangment for two pianos and choir and in collaboration with the Music in Secondary Schools Trust. Looking forward, as it does, the Summer Festival provides a nod to the School’s 60th birthday celebrations beginning in September 2023. I trust you’ll find something to whet your appetite and I look forward to welcoming you to The Menuhin Hall in the coming months.
