WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW YOU BELONG AT THE Y Thank you for your interest in the Y’s Summer Day Camp programs! We strive to provide a safe and happy day camp experience for you and your child. This booklet is designed to provide your family with the information needed to make the best choice for your child’s valuable time while out of school. Remember that YMCA members enjoy discounted Summer Day Camp fees up to 45%. These rates are noted throughout the guide as (YM). If you’re not currently a Y member, consider official membership. The member discount for one month of camp would pay for a family membership so the whole family can stay active this summer. A family membership is only $67 per month and includes access to both the Downtown and Dunigan

YMCA Day Camp programs provide kids ages 3-13 with supervised activities that teach core values and leadership skills. Kids have fun while making new friends, building self-confidence, and using team work. The Y offers a place for kids to play, create arts and crafts, swim, participate in field trips, appreciate nature, and discover our many cultures. For families focusesd on more specific interests such as sports, cooking, science, VBS, art, and more, we offer a large variety of specialty camps for ages 5-11. With our caring and competent staff, a safe environment, and Christian values, the Y’s Day Camp provides a place for your child to become the best that he/she can be!

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

In an effort to make our fees affordable for everyone in our community, the YMCA provides financial assistance using a sliding fee scale based on annual gross household income and family size. The YMCA of Southwestern Indiana makes every effort to ensure that no person, especially youth, will be denied access to programs and membership because of financial hardship. The YMCA’s Financial Assistance Program is supported by contributions to our Annual Campaign. If you are interested in applying for Financial Assistance, application forms are available at either YMCA location or to download from our website. In order to be considered for financial assistance your application and registration form must be filled out completely and turned into either YMCA location. Financial assistance will be awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis until all available spaces are filled.

CANCELLATIONS & REFUNDS

Registration fees are non-refundable under any circumstance. To cancel a registered week, you must complete an online cancellation form two weeks in advance. A digital cancellation form is available on our website at www.ymcaswin.org/summerdaycamp. Otherwise you will be responsible for the weekly fee. *Payment is due the Monday BEFORE the week of service.

Registration and applying for Financial Assistance will be facilitated online this year. If you do not have access to the internet or a computer, the Dunigan YMCA and the Downtown YMCA will have computers available to use for registration and/or applying for financial assistance. To register or apply for Financial Assistance, visit ymcaswin.org/summerdaycamp. There is important information here that you will need to know before enrolling your child in Day Camps. When you are ready to apply for financial assistance or register for day camps, simply click the Day Camp Registration button. Note: Upon online registration, you will be asked if you are applying for Financial Assistance. If you are applying, you must press “Yes” to the question. This will redirect you to the Financial Assistance Application to complete and bring to either the Downtown or Dunigan YMCA. ACTIVITIES At the YMCA Summer Day Camp your child will go on a field trip four days a week! Field Trips include: swimming, roller skating, putt-putt, parks, bowling, bounce houses, and much more! In addition to the numerous field trips camp programs include: arts and crafts, SPARK physical activities, songs, and story time.

SWIMMING Each camp goes swimming once a week at either New Harmony State Park or Burdette Park. Each camp will attend each pool an equal number of times (weather permitting). Campers’ swim levels are tested and nonswimmers are identified.

STAFF LEADERSHIP All YMCA day camp staff are selected for their maturity, dedication, enthusiasm, and desire to work with kids. Staff are CPR and First Aid certified and participate in an intensive training program that covers safety, supervision, counseling, and camp procedures. Our staff to camper ratio is 1:10, under the state recommendation.

LATE ARRIVALS Camp starts at a designated time each day. In the event that you attempt to drop off a camper after the stated start time and the camp has left the building, it will be your responsibility to locate and drop off the camper with the group. Camp staff will leave notification of their whereabouts and contact information before leaving their regular location. Supervision will not be available at drop-off location.

MEDICATION All camper medications are to be turned into camp staff at check-in on the first day of camp in the original container with written directions for delivery. Medications will be distributed at required times during the day. Campers should NEVER carry medications on their person including, but not limited to, over the counter medications such as Tylenol and Aspirin. Failure to abide by this policy will result in dismissal. Emergency medicine such as inhalers and epipens should be given to camp staff upon arrival. DAY CAMP BEHAVIOR POLICY

YMCA Day Camps focus on providing great experiences for our campers. Participants who display behavior that is inconsistent with the core values of the Y will be dismissed without refund.

AGES 3-13

At the YMCA, we provide a safe, affordable, and fun day camp for elementary school children ages 5-10, pre-school ages 3-5 and Movin’ On ages 11-13, from May 22 to August 4. Our summer program provides a range of activities, to entice everyone’s interest, in an atmosphere that reinforces the values of caring, honesty, respect, responsibility, and faith. Kids will enjoy a summer full of nature, water fun, games, field trips, sports, arts & crafts, and new friendships. Weekly themes allow your child to make new discoveries and explore activities of interest such as a variety of sports, art, theater, music, science and more.

AGES 11-13 This new ultimate camp adventure is filled with theme weeks, adventurous activities such as swimming at Burdette Park, putt-putting, a summer celebration trip, sports, sand volleyball, and creative arts just to mention a few. It is a custom designed camp program to fit the interests, needs and wants of the participants. These activities are carefully selected to keep the creative energy flowing while emphasizing communication, leadership and team building.

Explore your dreams of time travel while we travel from past to future. You’ll experience the music and culture from the past while we dream up what it will be like in the future. You’ll visit Skate World for a 70’s themed day and travel through time and space when we visit the Immersive Theater, plus many more exciting places!

ADVENTURE AWAITS CAMP Age: 8-11 When: May 30 - June 2 Where: Downtown YMCA

Go full speed with a mixture of local adventures and exciting trips for a great summer with the Y! Each day offers challenging activities that combine fun, leadership and teamwork. You’ll make discoveries, explore, create, and have so much fun. Join us this week, learn to rock climb, and explore the adventures that our area has to offer. No camp on Monday, May 29th.

Lions, flowers, and bugs OH MY! Join us for a week dedicated to what nature has to offer! Learn everything from life at the zoo in the different animal habitats to the vast variety of plant and animal life on our planet. This week you’ll enjoy a visit from the zoo, a bug expert, and a visit to a local animal shelter, plus so much more!

Let your mind run wild and unleash the artist in you. Show up ready to get messy as we dive into a world of color and paint. This week we will be visiting a pottery studio and visiting local artists to create some pieces of art guaranteed to make you feel like Picasso.

WET N’ WILD CAMP Age: 8 - 11 When: July 3 - 7 Where: Downtown YMCA

It’s going to be a super-soaked week of wild, water activities. Get ready for some slippery fun! Summer is hot, but you’ll stay cool this week with water balloon games, water relays, slip n’ slides, and more. Plan to visit Big Splash Indoor Water Park, Venture River Water Park, and other local attractions. No camp on Tuesday, July 4th.

Let’s tap into your imaginative engineering skills! This week, you’ll put on your thinking cap, roll up your sleeves, and get to work on some creative construction projects. You’ll create bridges and boats and end the week with the Extraordinary Egg Drop Challenge!

ONCE UPON A “Y” CAMP Age: 5 - 8 When: July 10 - 14 Where: Downtown YMCA

Fables, fantasies, and fairy tales abound this week! Myths, legends, and the other stories will spark your wonder and amazement. Join us for a week of storytelling where each day we’ll dive into a classic childhood story. This camp will bring new adventures as you participate in activities that make these stories come to life!

Sparkle and shine at Glitter & Glam camp, where campers will enjoy jewelry making, decorating crowns and wands, picture frames, and so much more. The girls will have an opportunity to have their hair done and nails painted! Each day will have its own theme, from teddy bear tea parties, pretty princess day, and dancing divas day. Join us and sparkle up your child’s life from head to toe!

SUPER SURVIVALIST CAMP Age: 8 - 11 When: July 24 - 28 Where: Downtown YMCA

It’s time to hone your basic wilderness survivial skills! Learn what to pack in your backpack, practice using a map and compass, and use natural resources to build your own shelter. To top it all off, you’ll end the week with a Treasure Hunt, using all that you’ve learned about navigation!

This camp will be a fun-filled week of holiday crafts and games from around the world. Each day will be a new holiday with a fun fieldtrip to go with it! Do you love being outside enjoying nature? Spend a week with us outside as we discover, learn and participate in outdoor activities like hiking, nature sightings, and exploration. Join us for a week full of outdoor adventures!

ANIMAL PLANET CAMP

Slimey, snotty, sneezy, and smelly... Grossology is the scientific study of all that’s NOT allowed at the dinner table. Join us for an insanely hilarious journey down some of nature’s most interesting & disgusting paths! This week is guaranteed to make you say “ewwwwwwww”! When not being digusted, you’ll have an opportunity to participate in regular camp day activities and fieldtrips.

Do you have a passion for animals? Join us and discover the animals of the world. You’ll have hands on experience learning to care for pets, learn from animal care specialists, and how you can help animals at risk of being extinct. If you’re an animal lover, then you’ll love this camp!

You’ll spend the week building, creating, and inventing! It’s gizmos and gadgets galore as you build with wood, Legos, toothpicks, blocks, cards, and even food! You’ll work with local contractors, designers, and architects to learn all about the building process. Come build with us!

The YMCA is partnering with Crossroads Christian Church to offer Vacation Bible Study (VBS). You should drop off your child at the Dunigan YMCA where they’ll play games and have fun interacting with other children. At 8:30 AM, campers travel to Crossroads to participate in their VBS camp. When VBS ends at 12:00PM, the bus will either transport your child to another fieldtrip or back to the Dunigan YMCA for a fun-filled afternoon of camp activities.

DELICIOUS DELIGHTS CAMP Age: 8-11 When: July 24 - 28 Where: Dunigan YMCA

Get cooking with us in this introduction to the culinary arts! You’ll learn to create fun things you can eat. While incorporating cleanliness, nutrition, cooking terms, measuring, helping, creating, sharing and EATING, this camp will allow you to become a little chef. From chopping up to cleaning up, it’s all food for thought!

Cheer campers will participate in a variety of exercises including sidelines, dance, jumps, gymnastics, squad work, and more. No experience is necessary. Campers will be put into groups with others who are in the same skill level and are taught skills that will help them develop strength, flexibility and coordination. This camp is a blast for kids who love music and performing. Campers learn skills in stretching, ballet, tap, hip-hop, and jazz. Participants also perform an end of the week routine on Friday to show off their new dance skills. Special shoes are not required, however, children may bring dance shoes to camp if they have them. Our gymnastics camp offers a full active week of learning progressive gymnastic skills. During the week, campers will learn skills on the floor, vault, bars and beam. In this NASP Archery camp, participants should bring their own Genesis bow. Our NASP/USA Archery Certified Instructor will show students the skills utilized in the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP). The week culminates on Friday with a trip to Camp Carson for outdoor archery practice and swimming! *Camp on Friday runs from 8:00 am - 3:00 pm.

This camp focuses on learning golf skills, playing games, and social interaction. There will be fun activities and skill contests. Participants should bring their own golf clubs or call for assistance. Campers should be dropped off at Thunderbolt Pass each day by a parent and/or guardian. Each participant will receive a t-shirt or golf accessory bag.

SOCCER CAMP - Dunigan

For all ability levels, this Archery Camp gives participants the opportunity to improve their archery skills. Archers spend the morning with our USA Archery Certified Instructors working on skills and shooting a variety of targets. The week culminates on Friday with a trip to Camp Carson for outdoor archery practice and swimming! *Camp on Friday runs from 8:00 am - 3:00 pm.

“THE SHOOTING COACH” BASKETBALL CAMP

Led by YMCA Head Basketball Trainer, Ashley Klass, this camp focuses on the foundation of proper shooting mechanics, hand/arm positioning, footwork prep/positioning, free throws, and overall shooting development. Individuals participate in daily fundamental shooting skill work, “Shooting Coach” fundamental drills, free throws, moving with/without the basketball, and daily shooting drills. YMCA basketball trainers will ensure progression and development in the art of shooting the basketball through repetition and consistency. Camp size is limited to 28 per time slot. First-time participants receive a “Shooting Coach” basketball and DVD.

Soccer Camp sessions focus on proper fundamental skill development. Instructors incorporate soccer techniques in fun and unique ways through age-appropriate small-sided games, tactical exercises, and camp contests. Team size is limited to ensure each participant receives playing time. Each participant will receive a camp t-shirt or camp soccer ball.
