• Section 4 covers research knowledge required for Customised exercise programme instruction and communication techniques (J/616/4752) • Section 5 covers research knowledge required for Unit 5 Nutrition to support physical activity (L/616/4753) • Section 6 covers research knowledge required for Unit 6 Business acumen for Personal Trainers (Y/616/4755) All questions must be answered correctly. The work must be your own and group completion is not allowed. This is an open book assessment and the questions refer to the content covered during your course. Information to aid completion will be delivered on course or via eLearning. The assessment workbook is available in the following formats: • Paper-based document (download and print) • Y-Mark (auto-marking) via Moodle You will be required to fully complete and pass each section – pass mark 100%.

Assessment element 3 Personal Training Showcase portfolio (synoptic assessment element)

A synoptic assessment tests the knowledge and/or skills you have gained throughout the qualification, covering multiple units. The Personal Training Showcase portfolio covers the following units: • Promoting wellness through client motivation and interaction (J/616/4749) • Bespoke exercise programme design (F/616/4751) • Customised exercise programme instruction and communication techniques (J/616/4752) • Nutrition to support physical activity (L/616/4753) • Business acumen for Personal Trainers (Y/616/4755)

This assessment element comprises 5 tasks.

Please note that, to ensure that you have demonstrated sufficient skills to be observed delivering a consultation (task 1) and final (summative) personal training session (task 3) for this assessment element, you must firstly complete and be assessed as competent for Learner Log Sections A-C (Assessment Element 4) . You will also need a client. To support you in being “work-ready” and to provide you with the most valuable learning experience, CIMSPA best practice is that the client should not be a peer from your course

They must be ‘apparently healthy’ and aged 16 + and needs to be available to you for tasks 1 to 4.

Showcase task 1 (Consultation) • Observed consultation

• Completion of Lifestyle assessment and client profile • Knowledge questions (If required) You will be required to conduct a face to face consultation your client during which time you must obtain sufficient subjective and objective information to plan a 12 week programme.

This must been seen by your assessor, however video is permissible

You will be assessed against the learning outcomes detailed on: • Observation of consultation record and feedback (Assessor) Therefore, prior to assessment, you should make yourself familiar with the guidance in: • Assessor and Learner guidance (Consultation) Knowledge questions - The assessor will review the observation record and written tasks (outlined above) and then he or she may conduct a question and answer session with you to check understanding of the unit’s learning outcomes. The assessor will set the questions. The assessor will record your answers on the knowledge question record.

Showcase task 2 (programming, delivery and review)

• Design and record a 12 week programme suitable for your client’s aims and goals • Teach a minimum of 3 sessions to your chosen client (however, the assessor need not be present) • Review each session and adapt programme as necessary • Knowledge questions (if required) You will be required to design and record a 12 week programme suitable for your client’s aims and goals and then deliver 3 personal training sessions to them based on this (adapting them as and when necessary).

Learner must develop: • 12 week programme overview • Three (3) full individual session plans • Three (3) x session reviews Although the Assessor need not be present during the 3 individual sessions, you must fully complete, document and sign a session review for each session. You will be assessed against the learning outcomes detailed on: • Summative programme design record and feedback (Assessor) Therefore, prior to assessment, you should make yourself familiar with the guidance in: • Assessor and Learner guidance (programming, delivery and review) Knowledge questions - The assessor will review the completed programme and then he or she may conduct a question and answer session with you to check understanding of the unit’s learning outcomes. The assessor will set the questions. The assessor will record your answers on the knowledge question record.

Showcase task 3 (Summative delivery and self-evaluation)

• Observed delivery of a personal training session relevant to the client and their goals • Completion of a self-evaluation form • Knowledge questions (If required) You will be required to demonstrate your ability to safely and effectively deliver an appropriate personal training session to your client, relevant to their aims and goals, which must include: You should select a programme for the observation that is reflective/relevant to the 12 week programme (this may be 1 of the sessions from the 3 detailed programme cards). The Assessor may choose to see the whole session or sections of it

• Planning and preparing for the session You will be observed preparing a client for a session which will include a review of the consultation conducted with the client in showcase task 1, updating as required on the day with regard to, for example, injuries, illnesses or operations.

• Teaching and supporting client throughout the session You will be observed teaching and supporting a client through a personal training session and will have selected suitable exercises to cover all elements of a personal training session relevant to the client and their goals.

• Ending and evaluating the session You will be observed ending the session and will also be required to complete the session evaluation form (in addition to the 3 session review you will complete with your client independently) Note: You will need feedback from the client in order to complete this evaluation. This must been seen by your assessor, however video is permissible. The assessor needs to observe all components of the session, however they may not observe the whole session in its entirety as the assessor can move you on once they have seen a sufficient amount of evidence to be able to make a judgement.
