Lesson 9 Don’t forget to remember It is the second Sunday of May. It‟s Mother Day! Read the short story and find out who is thoughtful among the characters. The Lame and Blind Beggar Have you ever been to Plaza Miranda in Qiapo.This is the palce where you can see different people young and old, rich and poor, healthy and physically handicapped. In one corner in Plaza Miranda, Mang Tomas sits every day and begs for alms. He is lame and blind. Many people pass by and drop the coins into the small can in front of him. Although he can‟t see, he always say “salamat po” (thank you), every time he hears the sound of a coin being dropped into his can. One day, it rained hard. Mang Tomas could not find his way to a safe shelter. He tried to stand up but he felt to the ground. He could not found his balance, so it was difficult for him to get up.
