Executiv e Summary
1.0 Executive Summary Outer space has always been a place for exploration – not just for new area but also for new material At Astoria We consider generally form four perspective to build a functional and comfortable space settlement for both working and living, especially for mining. Structure design In general, Astoria is designed for harvesting processing and transporting center. So, we design two docking ports and industry sections for convenience. Also, because the number of long-term residents is relatively small, we keep the residential and agriculture area at minimum. Industry tori are positioned separately at the two ends Automation , according to the requirements of the people, through a utomatic detection, analysis and manipulation, implemen t the expected objective. In order to provide people with a convenient life in Astoria, we cancelled the road on the land and developed the air traffic system and designed t he first generation of the aircraft. Besides this, we also de signed durable construction 3D printers which can execut e building and repairing automatically, and other automa tion like robot assistant, VR system, inner construction ro bots and so on. With the qutuam computer and other tec hnology like retina identification and brain wave control, safety of the whole system is guaranteed. Human factor base designs ensure the quality of life for all the citizens. Besides utility, more elements like museums in various fields, theat ers and churches serve as the agent for civilisation protection and pr opaganda as well besides its utility function. These specially design ed component coincide with the trend of the development of human civilization. Work entering on developing culture and civilization can be incorporated comprehensively in Astoria. Moreover, in business and finance field, the symbol of highly devel oped cities and civilizations, energy and special transportation and tr ade are greatly emphasized and developed. STRUCTURE DESIGN 2.1 External Configuration 2.1.0 main components In general, Astoria is designed for harvesting processing and transporting center. So, we design two docking ports and industry sections for convenience. Also, because the number of long-term residents is relatively small, we keep the residential and agriculture area at minimum. In order to keep the diversity of plants, the temperature, light and water would vary from region to reg ion, so people can view various lan dscapes in this area. As for the an other part of the agricultural area, it is for agriculture in order to produc e some vegetables that cannot be p rinted by the 3D printers

2.1.4 docking port The docking port of “Astoria” Space Settlement is designed into a “Cylindrical turning System”. The lateral area of the docking port is divided into cells and each of the cells has its reversible platform with slots for the immobilization of the space ship. When the space ships landing on the docking ports, the slots will catch them and the platform will roll over to the inside. The inside of the docking port is connected with the companies and the warehouse. The space

ship, when it is inside, will unload the ores, replenish fuel and be repaired. With the cylindrical turning system the space ships do not need the runways for their take-off and landing. The docking port with hangar will enhance the effectively of the spaceship repairing and the freight transporting.

A mining camp located near the mining site is primarily for relaxation and reparation. So, the mining camp is divided into two parts. The first is for the human beings, which provided relaxing room and nutrition supply. And we also try to create an environment where is equally comfortable as in Space Settlements. The second part is for the reparation and temporary storage of minerals. In this second part, the robot or aircraft could not only refuel but also get reparation of minor wrongs. Also, because of dangerous location, the mining camp used the equally strong material as the space settlements. And also, in the universe, variety kinds of radiation might effects human and robots normal work or lives. So, the radiation shielding is extremely important. The CNS material is cutting edge technology in radiation protection field. And the raguard located at the most outer surface is the first radiation protection which might prevent part of the radiation. With these two material, the radiation is hardly invade into space settlement. And for thermal insulation, Space settlements coated with the most normal but wildly accepted material water and silica fiber.

OPERATIONS AND INFRASTRUCTURE 3.1 Location and Materials Sources Orbital location:Protoplanets Ceres. 2.2 and 3.2 astronauts(AU) from the Sun. Reasons for selection: The average distance between objects in the Asteroid Belt is quite large, so the wide horizon brings convenience to transport materials and mining. Also the abundances of precious metals such as nickel, iron, and titanium(to name few), and water make asteroids an attractive target for mining operations. Equipments and materials for construction: drilling machine, 3D printer, machinery arm, titanium alloy, plastic. Mining target: Ceres 2.components All the components can be artiďŹ cially produced with the use of the technique that can easily transform the liquid oxygen and Liquid hydrogen into gas state. There are four layers of the atmosphere as the atmosphere of the earth does. 80% nitrogen plus approximately 20% oxygen builds up the atmosphere. Nitrogen comes from the industry zone and the gases released by plant’s behavior. Since all the gases in this settlement can be automatically commanded by the dwellers, just like we can control and transmit the gases in industry zone freely, injecting gases into the atmosphere needs few efforts. 3. Temperature
Temperature, humidity and sunshine can be controlled by adding or removing gas in the atmosphere.

Plantation Techniques In Astoria, we are going to integrate different cutting-edge plantation techniques together including the aquifer plantation and horizontal plantation. 2. Nutrients Composition Nutrients needed by plants like phosphor, sulphur and potassium comes from industry part. Transporting the gases generated by the industry zone through the pipes into a processing machine that can transform the gases from industry into the forms that can be easily absorbed. Take nitrogen as an example, our machine can turn the ammonium from the industry zone into nitrate and ammoniate which can be easily and directly utilised by the plants. Simultaneously, the machine can purify the substances working as a ďŹ lter. All the particles and other irrelevant gases can be eliminated. (The basic elements for plantation are sulphur, nitrogen and phosphorus.)

Since the pipes are all around, electricity would be accessible all around the Astoria.
OPERATIONS AND INFRASTRUCTURE 3.2.4 Water Management 1. Atmosphere, Fauna and Flora These three parts of Astoria are in which the water(in both gas state and liquid state) is cycling. In the atmosphere, water is primarily in the form of vapour. As the liquid water on the ground evaporates, vapour rises to the atmosphere and continues to agglomerate. When the vapour accumulates to the extend that the air cannot hold the accumulation of vapour, precipitation happens. So the vapour then liquefies or solidifies and comes down to the ground. All the precipitation will be reserved in the reservoirs. Those reservoirs connecting with the pipes mentioned in 3.2.2 will be set above each building. The pipes allow the water to flow inside the pipes and to be transferred to the places where it is needed. Human beings and fauna can easily get water from the pipes. So do the flora. Water that released by the respiration of all the livings finally will go into the atmosphere. 2. Water Pollution Control The machine connecting two pipes can also be used for water purification. Phosphor, sulphur and other pollutants can be eliminated and stored by the machines. The pollutants in the machines can also be used later.
3.2.6 Internal and external communication systems In this settlement, we may use the technology called optical transmission. It is a device that can transmits information between people through light. The process of communication happens among optical transmitter, optical fiber and optical receiver. In the center room, the optical transmitter converts RF TV signal into light signal which is finished by Electric-optical transducer. And then these signal is received by the optical receiver and transfer it into electric signal. So these process is the transmission between light and electricity. Also these device can be applied to communication with earth. These process can transfer 20000 books 0.1 seconds for us.

OPERATIONS AND INFRASTRUCTURE 3.3 Port facilities & Ore handling Port facilities locate on the surface of distribution warehouses, near the propulsion system and the escape boat area where landing facilities are available and transportation is convenient. There is a docking system serving as both launching and landing station. Cargoes will be transported into certain sections by craft on different tracks. Normal cargoes can be stored in the outer circle, important sources are stored inside. Known and utilized ores will be sent to certain sections receiving different industrial process while unknown or unutilized ores will be sent into experiment center

3.4 machines for construction 1. Length: 157m Width: 3m This machinery arm is used to construct the exterior hull of the settlement. It has 3 turning points on the main body, bottom, mid-point, and top. each of the turning parts can rotate for 180 degree. The top of it has a multifunctional interface which could inlay a robot or a container. The robot’s left arm can use the screw to assemble the machine parts(see in the picture). The robot uses infrared ray in order to calibrate the place where the objects are and make sure the inaccuracy is less than 0.02mm. 2.This six-feet 3D printer is capable to print structural ingredients from six sides and it's programmed to scan the fractures of Astoria's surface and fix it automatically.After being programmed it will excute its missions independently which means it neither sends nor receives any signals so that it minimiumizes the influence of solar flare activities.

OPERATIONS AND INFRASTRUCTURE 3.5 Propulsion system Deuterium fusion with 1 kg deterium can produce over 3x10^11 kJ heat. Astoria only needs about 1/6 kg deterium to produce the power which can make itself move at the acceleration of 1m/s^2 and finally at the instant velocity of 10m/s. Such acceleration and velocity bring no harm to any equipment, facility or resident. The system uses the magnetic confinement fusion —— highly advanced Tokamak (known as the most controllable fusion process) to produce thrust. The two symmetrical Tokamak systems locate at the edge of the center part of Astoria, right under the port and escape boat area. The fusion systems are in the settlement while the ignition systems are installed outside in order to produce thrust in a wider angle
The booster for Astoria is designed as usual rocket booster, with a huge sphere (diameter : 40m / used as a cushion against strong heat / a center for power allocation / base to change the angle of the thrust) inside of the settlement to make itself move. It has 3 turning points on the main body, bottom, midpoint, and top. each of the turning parts can rotate for 180 degree. 5.4 This mining machine can work in a zero-gravity asteriod because it can use laser or drill at the bottom to dig a hole and use two adjustable barbs to provide a stable working environment. After digged out the raw ore the front side of three buckets will close in order to push ore into the pipelines inside three arms and there are turbine-like diamond blades which cut the ore and transport it to the big ball— for short time storage, and it can stretch out thrusters to help this machine back to the ore bases.

5.5 The ore bases will be settled in separate asteroids and all the mining machines nearby will unload ore in such one place. The ore will get refinery and be transported to Astoria by space ships. The bigger inlet shown in the picture can stretch out soft pipelines to connect with mining machines and the raw materials will be refined in separate boxes. Then, the refined ore will be stored in the huge warehouse below which transport ships get in and take the ore back to Astoria.

And Shipments Park at the docking port of space settlement will charge by the number of shipments they deliver. Beside delivery, because of the limited space, Astoria will also benefit from the temporary storage of goods.
3 cleanliness The space that the docking port and Astoria are kind of separate, there are two block between the docking port and the enclosed area. First space is used for the separation between cargos and human beings. And then human beings step into the second blocked area where there is cleaning equipment for clean the dust. Finally, human being will go in to the enclosed area where there is no dust.
4 TOURISM in the Astoria residential area, there are hotels, park and recreational places for the visitor enjoying trip on the Astoria. And for the food, most of the Astoria food is produced by 3D printer and self produced food in the agriculture are, definitely, they are enough for the temporary visitors.
5 Tug and repairing For other ship met the danger or got the damage during the travel, Astoria can provide the tuf and repairing service. Firstly, the damaged ship will be tugged at the docking port and then workers will assign the robots to repair the damaged part of the ship which can handle most of the problems.
6 emergency management Is there is some emergency situation happened in the mining site, two specific ship will go out for to operate some rescue actions.
