You work as the Creative Director to your sister Laufey, how do you balance your personal and work life together?
Since I work from home, I have to try to create a mental split as best as I can! When I open my computer, it’s work mode, and I allot a certain amount of hours in my day to get everything done. When I close my computer, it’s Junia mode! That’s when I allow my mind to drift, find inspiration, post on social media, or exercise!
What is something that has surprised you about your line of work?
Something that surprised me was just how much originality is celebrated. When I was first starting out as a creative, I thought I had to work within the guidelines of what was accepted. I’d look at what other artists and companies had done and try to re-create or replicate with my own spin. The more time I spend in my role, the more I realise to what extent originality is the best way forward.
It’s so much fun watching you on social media, does it come to you naturally or do you have a specific strategy? What tips can you give for growing as a creator?
It definitely requires some thought, but once you figure out what you and your audi ence like, and what makes sense based on your personality outside of social media, it becomes easier. The only strategy I can suggest is going for it. You’re never going to figure out your personal posting style or cadence if you don’t put yourself out there. Don’t concentrate on curating your over all profile to perfection. Think about the individual moments!

You have such a great and unique fashion sense, did you always feel confident going against the mainstream?
I have definitely become more empowered in my sense of style in the past few years. I think this also comes with a sense of security I have gained as a woman in my 20s. There is something so exhilarating about stepping out and having this thought in the back of my head that this outfit or a certain piece may be a little too much. It feels weirdly like an achievement. I think I trained my brain to view the potential negative comments as a positive thing- the thought that some people are going to find my outfit amazing and others find it repulsing feels powerful.

We love that you take risks with your fashion choices, how do you think your style has evolved recently?
I’ve definitely allowed myself to be louder and take up more space, both visually and physically. I love wearing big furry coats and dare to mix patterns more. I love textures -sparkles, sheepskin, tweed. Mixing them perfectly feels delicious.
Do you have any favourite Christmas traditions? How will you be spending the holiday season this year?
I love playing music with my family. Me and my mother and Laufey always play Christmas songs after dinner during the Advent season, and it sets the perfect tone!

How did you get into the music industry? Did you think this was going to be your career?
I was introduced to music from a very early age. I played instruments and went to concerts with my grandparents, so music was always a part of my life. As I got older and was trying to stay in school, I started working on music production a lot. It eventually led to me dropping out of school and working every night in the studio. Then I released my own music, and the rest is history. I didn’t plan for this to be my career; it was just pure passion for music and creativity that led me down this path. I’m super grateful and proud every day to be working on something I love.
Congratulations on your new album Floni 3, how was the process of making it compared to your previous albums?
Thank you very much! It’s been a long time coming. This was probably my hardest album to make out of the other two albums, and it took the most time. I spent about five years working on Floni 3, so it’s really great to finally be able to share it with the world.

What are you most proud of in your career so far?
I’m most proud of being fearless about other people’s opinions and not letting them affect me. I’ve always tried to listen to my own heart and follow it, for that I’m most proud of.

What does a typical day in your life look like for you? We can imagine that two days never look the same in your field of work.
A typical day involves having a good coffee in the morning from Joe & the Juice and spending the rest of the day in the studio for as long as I can. But it depends; sometimes I have a lot of meetings and planning, so it can get a little crazy, like these past few months leading up to the release of Floni 3. But there are days when I like to stay home, be lazy, sleep in, and do absolutely nothing. That’s as important.

What are your New Year’s goals & resolutions for the coming year?
My goals are to keep releasing more music and to host a big concert of my own. As for resolutions, I’m not sure yet; I’ll just have to wait and see.
How will you be spending the holiday season? Do you have any special Christmas traditions?
I’ll be spending it with family and friends, and I’m really looking forward to it. It’s my son’s second Christmas (he’s two years old), so it’s going to be a big deal this year. I’m really excited about it!

Hvammsvík Hot Springs must be one of your biggest projects to date, tell us a bit about creating and leading that.
Hvammsvík has been a big part of the family for a long time. Originally as our own get away, where our family and friends would gather and enjoy the incredible nature and wildlife. So when we decided to create Hvammsvík Hot Springs and Resort, it became a very personal project. We wanted to capture the essence of the land and the rich history, and to share it with the world in a way that would honour its origin.

Hvammsvík Hot Springs is built around an old natural pool on the property which is still standing as one of the eight pools our guests can enjoy. The concept behind the design was one word, honesty . We would ask our selves throughout the entire process if the design was true to nature, true to the landscape, the wild life, the elements and as well the history of the loca tion. Every material used in the con struction of the building, both inside and outside has been thought fully chosen from surroundings close by. The furni ture, the art, the dinner wear, the swim wear has also all been chosen with purpose. The creative talent we have here in Iceland is unrivaled, so when it came down to it, it was my mission to work with as many artists, designers and creators as I possibly could. They all came to Hvammsvík during our creation days and were able to take a little piece of Hvammsvík to incorporate back into the design they were creating for us. The result is something truly unique, an experience our guests take home with them long after they have left the resort.

I’ve been working on the creative direction, design and marketing of Hvammsvik for more than five years now and will hopefully continue to work on it for decades to come as we are always coming up with new ideas and ways to evolve. It’s been extremely rewarding to see this project come alive and to meet our guests in person who appreciate the magnificent nature of Iceland and what we are doing to bring them closer to it.
What exciting projects are you working on now?

In Hvammsvík we have a few design projects going on that we will unveil in the new year. In addition to that, my design studio, GBT interiors, is working on a number of exciting
interior design projects for clients all around Iceland, both residential and commercial. I’m also working on “Hvammsvík At Home” a little side project I’ve created along with a local company named Nordic Angan. “Hvammsvík At Home” is a line of self care essentials for body and home. Not only is it produced here in Iceland, but the ingredients are all clean and powered by Icelandic essential oils made from the plants growing in Hvammsvík. The line has been in the making for over three years, only available to purchase in Hvammsvík or on our website, but we have just recently launched in a few select stores in Reykjavík, such as Rammagerðin, Mikado and Seimei.

You must have met some very inspiring people on the way. Who are the ones that have impacted you the most and why?
I have! By nature of the design trade, I am lucky to be exposed to artists and creators that inspire and move me on a daily bases. But I must say, and it may sound cliché, the most inspiring people to me are those closest to me, my husband being one of them. But also all the strong and independent women I’m surrounded by who are artists, designers, business owners, mothers, entrepreneurs, fashionistas or just total badasses who are turning their own dreams into reality. And maybe this was a combination of inspiration and being star struck, but I once met and spoke to Diane Von Furstenberg in her store in NYC after just having read her biography. Her journey to success, her entrepreneurial spirit and how she faced and overcame her challenges made a true impact on me.
Do you have any special rituals about dressing for the holiday season?
I definitely enjoy being a little bit more glamorous in December, picking out the sparkly things in my wardrobe and getting a good use of my dresses and high heels. This is the season to get dressed up and there are plenty of events to do just that!

Do you have any goals and resolutions for the new year?
Being in the moment is something I try to practice every day, and it will definitely continue to be my goal for the coming year. I feel like time flies by faster every year and I want to be sure I’m not letting the days pass me by! I am beyond fortunate to have a great family, healthy and happy children, loving and supportive husband, a job I love and a safe country to live in.

One of my favourite things is eating æbleskiver I looove them! But I am also at that time in my life where I am creating new traditions as a mom now with my own little family which is just so precious and exciting.

You recently moved back to Iceland. What are some of your favourite things about being home, and do you have any exciting upcoming projects now that you’re working full time there?
Since I came home, the best thing in the world is seeing my family and friends, going to the pool and the sauna, and jumping into the sea whenever I get the chance. I’m working at the National Theatre of Iceland and rehearsing a play called Heima. It’s a newly written play by Hrafnhildur Hagalín, and it will premiere on February 7th, 2025, directed by Margnús Geir Þórðarson. I’m really looking forward to it, especially with such great actors and creative directors. I am also preparing an opera piece as both director and writer, which is still a bit of a secret.
You have been working in the industry for a long time, what are some of your favourite projects you’ve worked on?
“... I’ve made many fashion mistakes, but that’s part of fashion – not taking the safe route.”
The projects I’m working on at any given time are always the most fun, and directing my own work is the most rewarding. Some of my favourite works that I’ve created include Gyðjan í vélinni at the 2007 Arts Festival with VdfH on the naval ship Óðinn, Orbis Terræ Ora with 16 lovers at the 2009 Arts Festival, Hnykill in 2009, and Fantastar/Hvalurinn in 2014 at the Arts Festival in Reykjavík.
You are not afraid of taking fashion risks, where do you seek inspiration when getting dressed?
From friends and other geniuses. I also try to maintain my own style. It’s always good to look at art history and follow my own aesthetics and feelings. I’ve had periods where I embraced retro clothes from the 1920s to today, and I’ve made many fashion mistakes, but that’s part of fashion – not taking the safe route. Always pushing things a little further ;)

Christmas is the time of giving but we want to know what is something you will be doing for yourself this holiday season.
When it comes to traditions and holidays, I really enjoy myself. I love seeing my friends & family, crafting, or baking. Everyone has their own traditions and customs, and you’re always building upon your old Christmases and adding new things that are meaningful to you and to your friends or family. Growing up, my family didn’t make laufabrauð, but I really enjoy making it now, along with baking gingerbread cookies and decorating them with my closest people. I became vegan a few years ago, and that changed the menu, but it’s been really fun to try new things in that regard. I also love choosing and giving beautiful gifts, wrapping them nicely, and thanking friends and loved ones for the year with a special gift and letting
them know that I’m thinking of them and that they matter to me. Also, the Christmas outfit is crucial for setting the mood!!
With the new year around the corner, is there anything you want to focus on in 2025?
Absolutely. Solidarity, compassion, and love. And definitely not forgetting to have fun.

Yes, wow, I’m like a drag queen at Christmas and New Year’s, I love it!! A little more sparkle in the darkest winter days never hurts.

How do you balance staying true to your personal style while also adapting to industry trends?
I try to dress true to what I genuinely find cool and interesting. My wardrobe is mainly filled with preloved vintage goods that I hope are “one-offs” that I hope I won’t bump into anyone else wearing, except for my very precious Yeoman pieces, of course. I love the individuality in other people’s personal styles, so I try not to get too influenced by the buzzy trends going around.
What’s your goto fashion item that you can’t live without?
A good coat is vital in the colder seasons, which in Iceland are every season, of course. But all year round, I think the ultimate can’t live without fashion item is a good bag.

What has been the most rewarding part of your career as a model so far?
Seeing the final product of some thing many creatives have come together to create is always very re ward ing. It really takes a village and being the model is just a small part of creating the final image.

The holidays are all about warmth and comfort—how do you balance stylish looks with the cosy feeling we all crave this time of year?
These days I won’t leave the house without a cashmere sweater over whatever it is that I’m wearing that day, and a big cosy coat. I’ve also been really obsessed with hats lately, which I think gives any outfit a little extra je ne sais quoi but also keeps you really warm.

How does fashion play a role in your New Year’s Eve celebrations? Do you have a go to look for ringing in the new year?
Fashion plays THE biggest role in New Year’s Eve cele brat ions. I personally love any thing sequin, so the last couple of years I’ve found myself reaching for my Yeoman gold sequin pants. New Year’s is just the occasion to wear something bold or that one ridiculously fancy dress that you never find the occasion to wear. Although, I do want to say I am the biggest advocate for being overdressed. So whatever you buy this year to wear around the holidays, I encourage you to wear it year-round.
