HELLO & WELCOME I’d like to take this opportunity to welcome you to this year’s Destinations 2015. We’ve been rolling out the nationwide YDance Routes programme for the last 4 years and are delighted to be celebrating the wealth of youth dance talent we have in Scotland at macrobert tonight. We had a fantastic response to our call out for groups and selected 15 to perform for you alongside our own National Youth Dance Company of Scotland. Groups have travelled from as far afield as Aberdeen, Cardross, Dundee, Edinburgh, Falkirk, Glasgow, Greenock, Inverness, Lochgilphead, Paisley, Stirling & Taynuilt to be with you tonight. National dance programmes like YDance Routes are essential for our young dancers which is why we are so grateful for the ongoing support from Cashback for Creativity which funds the YDance Routes programme of work and funding from Time to Shine for Destinations. The opportunity to meet, dance and perform with other young people from the length and breadth of Scotland is an invaluable experience that not only motivates and inspires every one of the participants, but spreads out to their communities, motivating their friends and families as well. All of the young people dancing tonight have had a different YDance Routes experience. For some it is the first time they’ve been part of Destinations and performed on a stage, others are back for a second or third year while some participants have also taken part in the workshops and creative sessions that make up Connections. After the success of the first Commonwealth Youth Dance Festival in July 2014, which brought together 400 young dancers from 11 different Commonwealth countries, we’re continuing our commitment to inspire, develop and showcase Scotland’s thriving youth dance community - your support is a huge part of this. I hope you enjoy tonights performance and don’t forget to enter our prize draw to win a Champagne Afternoon Tea for 2 at Glasgow’s Hilton Hotel - sign up at our stall in the macrobert foyer.

Originally created in June 2014, the work brought together dancers from all over Scotland, who collaborated with Dundee-based Choreographer Joan Clevillé and composer Quee MacArthur. In this new version of the piece, the dancers of SDT Youth Company have worked together to devise a dance that talks about what matters to them: their dreams, their worries, their hopes...or their favourite dish! The name of the work refers to the 71 nations which took part in the Commonwealth Games.
