Welander, Carrie Winkler Contemporary theatre design and production practice is profoundly influenced by modern technology. And as this technology has become more complex the practitioners in the performing arts must be trained to understand and apply these technologies to the achievement of artistic goals. To meet this need for ever more knowledgeable professional technicians the department selects welleducated and highly motivated students who can best benefit from the renowned resources of the Yale School of Drama and Yale Repertory Theatre. Each of our students completes a required sequence of courses and they select electives which allow them to pursue concentrations in such fields as Production Management, Technical Direction, Stage Machinery Design and Automation, or Theatre Planning and Consulting.

The program is structured to prepare the student for work in the commercial and regional theatre, as well as opportunities in touring, dance, opera, event management, and industrials.
