THE ULTIMATE IN PREVENTING CABLE THEFT

Electrical Copper cable theft: a worldwide problem Copper, one of the world's most sought after and essential metals, has been the subject of an underground movement of international syndicates that

Theft escalates as demand and pricing grows The demand for copper is fuelled worldwide as the need for expansion increases. In many countries copper theft is now a national crisis.

The U.S. reports copper theft to the value of $1 billion per annum.

Copper cables need to be protected against theft All electrical installations – whether new or already installed - use copper cable which is vulnerable to theft.

An average of R13m worth of copper cable was stolen per month in South Africa in 2015.

Cable Croc Cable theft Protection systems are installed in accordance to SANS specifications

mastermind copper cable theft and its disposal.

Based on theft from Eskom, Telkom and Transnet only, those estimates comprise the cost of replacing only the metal. This figure is insignificant as it estimates the impact on the economy at R7 billion per year. World demand for copper continues to grow The last decade has seen copper prices spike, as this commodity’s super cycle helped propel a number of hard assets to new levels. Approximately 10 years ago, copper was traded at US$ 1.6 a kilogram. Currently it is trading at approx. US$ 6.0 per kilogram.

protection against copper cable theft Works on new and existing cable installations Environmentally friendly No patrolling necessary No monthly fees No 24/7 response team necessary No expensive beams, cameras, control room or mass concrete required Easy to install - no specialist skills are required. No special power supply or solar panels (itself vulnerable to theft) required to power devices Once off payment for supply and installation No false alarms No patrolling required to ensure safety

CableCroc systems were independently tested by the CSIR for strength and durability. The CSIR proved that it was not possible to remove a heavy duty cable fitted with CableCroc protection with a 45-degree reverse pull using 12-ton John Deere tractor and exerting a 5.6 ton force. The anchors also remained intact when submitted to a longitudinal pull of 9 tons. CableCroc systems have been designed to withstand extreme efforts to steal installed cable. CableCroc. Proven and tested.

Materials CableCroc systems are produced from extremely durable and environmentally friendly materials.

Design CableCroc systems are fabricated from galvanized mild steel and hot dip galvanised or are injection molded from reinforced engineering polymers to provide cost effective, durable and corrosion-resistant protection for new and existing cable installations. Using our patented solution, systems are versatile and quick and easy to install. CableCroc Cable Theft Protection Systems are is installed according to conventional underground standards. The cable is permanently fixed to ensure a lifetime cable protection of your cabling infrastructure investment. Utilizing the latest scientific techniques in computer-aided design (CAD) and finite element analysis (FEA), CableCroc units have been designed to provide optimum product performance.

Manufactured from heavy gauge galvanised steel or injection moulded from fibre reinforced polymers, our systems are designed to withstand extreme conditions. Our specialised shear nuts are designed to snap off and make removal extremely difficult - ensuring that your cable remains where it has been installed. The polymers in our bushes have the added benefit of releasing an acrid and unbearable smell when cut with an angle grinder or when heat is applied- an additional security feature to protect your cabling infrastructure.

THE ULTIMATE IN PREVENTING CABLE THEFT

Electronic and chemical protection systems Electronic and chemical protection systems become effective only after the cable has been stolen

Surveillance systems Electronic systems monitoring the tampering of electrical cables and report theft attempts. A rapid response team is then despatched to the site where theft is taking place. Disadvantages Ÿ Electronic surveillance systems can only report theft - not prevent it. Ÿ A 24/7 armed response team has to be on call. Ÿ Systems can malfunction and cease to operate - and often post false alarms Ÿ Expensive

Marking systems Marking systems mark the cable with a microdot, special ink or similar for later identification Disadvantages Ÿ Microdot marking becomes effective only after the cable has been stolen and requires copper purchasers to have microdot readers Ÿ Chemical marking systems are thwarted by thieves wearing face masks, disposable gloves and clothing

How Cable Croc works CableCroc is a unique, physical, permanent and patented solution to the rapidly escalating problem of cable theft. CableCroc solutions consists of: Ÿ The permanent, physical attaching of cables to randomly spaced anchors which are secured in the base of the trench with our proven and patented protection systems Ÿ The permanent fixing of the cable to the anchor using our patented cable clip Ÿ The use of shear nuts which break off when tightened to make removal impossible CableCroc protection solutions are available in light-, medium-, heavyand extra heavy duty configurations A full range of CableCroc copper theft protection systems have been developed, tested and patented in South Africa and ARIPO countries

Cost

CableCroc systems are so unique, an exclusive patent has been granted by the South African authorities.

Although the loss of expensive cable is regrettable, the real cost lies in loss of productivity: more than 45 times the value of the stolen cable.

Patent number is 2012/00916 Permanent protection can be included at an approximate addition of 20% to new cable installation cost.

Patents are pending in the ARIPO countries for application number AP/A2012/006322

The cost of protecting existing cables is only 8% the cost of replacement
