Local 10-year-olds wow Sibaya By Xpress Reporter
KwaDukuza's sensational 10-yearolds; Sabian Lee Singh, Saiyan Naidoo, Brayson Naidoo and Yuven Chetty as well as Tylen Naidoo from Durban thrilled the audience at the Battle of the Bands at the iZulu Theatre, Sibaya Casino. They were supported by Ryan Joshua (Music Director), Trevlin Naidoo on bass guitar and Sydney Naidoo on rhythm guitar. The stunning musical performance Dawnheights recorded a thrilling back to back victories when they beat their arch rivals in their derby game against iLembe in the KwaZulu Natal Challenge league. Dawnheights won the toss and elected to field after a delayed start due to overnight rain. iLembe got off to a cautious but solid start which was helped by some ordinary fielding for Dawnheights. Midway through their cautious innings, the tight Dawnheights bowlers started taking wickets at regular intervals with Bilal Ismail ending with figures of 6.5 overs, 4 wickets for 26 runs. There was a late flurry of runs when the power play was taken. The introduction of Suveer Maharaj saw him remove two batsmen in a single over. Bilal Ismail brought the iLembe innings to
had the crowd in awe and due to sold out shows on Friday and Saturday, an extra show was staged on Sunday, 19 October due to public demand. Back to Back Victories for Dawnheights a close on 153 with Steven Jacobs top scoring with 34 of 66 balls, Preshen Rampersadh scored 22 of 34 balls, Alveiro Nadesan 21 of 49 and Mohammed Mhlongo 27 not out, The chief destroyers for Dawnheights were Bilal Ismail, Suveer Maharaj (1 over 2 for 4) and Mohammed Shezaad 10 overs 2 for 46. Dawnheights got off to a rocky start with the loss of 3 quick wicket with the score on 39. Varun Pal joined Bilal Ismail and the pair set about repairing the innings with a 50 run partnership. Soon after the drinks break, Varun Pal was dismissed for a wellplayed 41 of 53 balls. Youngster Sourav Singh then joined Ismail and steered
Dawwnheights close to the target. Bilal was dismissed leaving Tiger Poonsamy to wrap it. However, Tiger was dismissed, after edging Dawnheights closer to victory. Suveer Maharaj and Sing were dismissed with 11 runs for victory. Mikaylin Naiker and Adesh Bageloo were left to wrap things up for Dawnheights who achieved the win in under 40 overs thus giving Dawnheights a valuable bonus point. Manor to host 15th anniversary awards banquet Manor Cricket Club has played a major role in the development of young upcoming cricketers in community for the last 15 years. They have produced a KZN Dolphin player in S. Mlongo and several other KZN junior caps.
