Ziyaad Moolla obtained eight distinctions (English, Maths, L.O, Life Sciences, Physics, Accounting, Business Studies and Advanced Math). He said that matric only comes once and learners must make it count. He intends to pursue a career in Actuarial Science at the University of Cape Town.
KwaDukuza matriculants top Ilembe By Xpress Reporter
The Class of 2014 Grade 12 learners from the KwaDukuza Municipality, which is part of a family of four municipalities that comprise the Ilembe District Municipality, have scooped the top five positions in as many years. Four learners from Stanger Manor Secondary and one from Shakaskraal Secondary made up the top five in the National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations. The number one learner, Serena Naidoo obtained seven distinctions that came from English, Afrikaans, Maths, Physical Science, Accounting, Life Science, and Life Orientation. She intends studying medicine at the University of Pretoria. Looking back at her matric year she remarked how important it is to strike a balance between studies and social life. “Hard work and consistency is the key.” “Ensure that you take timeoff to de-stress. I relaxed and took time off by playing the keyboard. Make time for yourself and to do the things you love. Looking forward to a new beginning,” said Naidoo. Tenielle Pillay, also from Manor Secondary; was Ilembe's second placed learner also securing seven A's and is accepted to study Pharmacy and is on the waiting list to study medicine. Moodley added that her granddad, Mr NP Moodley, was instrumental in her entire academic success
since she started schooling. Payal Ramraj was placed 4th in iLembe with seven distinctions and intends pursuing a career in Medicine. She said she was still in discussions with her parents on whether to study locally or abroad. “I made sure I had a balance between my studies and my social life. A change of scenery is important as it helps to regroup and get focused again. Work hard and be consistent,” she said. Ruwaal Samraj from Shakaskraal Secondary rounded off Ilembe's Top 5 with five distinctions coming from Maths, Physics, Engineering and Graphical Drawing, Geography and Life Orientation. He will go on to study Civil Engineering at the University of KZNHoward.

Samraj's accomplishment is special in light of both his parents being deaf and mute respectively. The above matriculants thanked their parents, principals, educators and friends for their support and guidance throughout 2014.

ZMS attains 100 percent pass By Xpress Reporter
All the Grade 12 learners of ZMS who sat for the National Senior Certificate (NSC) Examinations in October/November 2014 passed the examination. According to school principal Mr Y Karodia, ZMS has an excellent record in the NSC Examinations, achieving a 100% pass rate virtually every year. “The top three candidates from the Class of 2014 in Sawliha Mahamod, Naymah Adnan and Jauhara Khan each attained a full house of 8
distinctions each." Sawliha obtained 98 percent in Mathematics, 96% in Physical Sciences, 94% in Life Sciences and Life Orientation, 93% in Arabic, 89% in Geography and Afrikaans and 85% in English. Although Sawliha was successful in acquiring a seat to pursue Medicine, she has opted to do a course in teaching saying she has a passion for it.
