I always wanted to write but I didn’t think I had enough imagination to make the stories up myself. I liked the idea of pursuing stories in the real world, learning something, meeting interesting people and having unusual experiences along the way. What’s your favourite memory of life at City? I really enjoyed working on XCity last year. It was hard work but it felt like we were all in it together. We had fun and put on cheesy background music while we were grappling with the listings pages. What drew you to China? I didn’t choose China in particular – I just fancied a bit of an adventure and this opportunity came up. I didn’t know much about the country before I came here but I’m relishing it now. What would you like to see in the next 25 years of journalism? I hope imagination and technology combine to form compelling storytelling. That increased inter-connectivity uncovers more stories that should be told and disseminates them more widely. The need for quality journalism is there more than ever, but I worry about how it will be funded. Helen Stuart
