A D M I S S I O N S Academic Scholarships Xaverian is proud to award $1.25 million annually in academic merit-based scholarships. If you intend to apply for an academic scholarship, please indicate so on your application. Students will be required to sit for the scholarship exam on Saturday, December 5th, 2015 at Xaverian. The requirements are:
• Students must submit verification of an overall average of 90% through their transcript for 6th and 7th grades, as well as the first quarter of the
8th grade. Copies of the applicant’s standardized test scores must be submitted as well.
• Additional consideration is given to students in advanced academic programs.
• Scholarship applicants must submit a completed admissions application by November 20th, 2015, indicating that they wish to sit for the exam.
Music Scholarships Students applying for a music scholarship must sit for the scholarship exam and schedule an audition with the Music Department. Please contact the Director of the Music Program, Mr. Joseph Loposky, by December 4th, 2015 at (718) 836-7100 x177 for the requirements and an audition time. Memorial Scholarships and Grants for Children of NYPD & FDNY Scholarships are awarded to incoming 9th grade students that demonstrate academic promise as well as financial need. See the admission application for details. Materials are due by November 20th, 2015. The following is a list of scholarships and grants:
• The P.O. Christopher Hoban ’80 Scholarship is reserved for applicants whose parents are uniformed/retired officers of the NYPD.
• The F.F. John Devaney ’70 Scholarship is reserved for applicants whose parents are uniformed/retired officers of the FDNY.
• The Frank G. Mirabello Memorial Scholarship is reserved for applicants whose parents are uniformed officers of the FDNY.
• Xaverian students whose parents are uniformed/retired officers of the NYPD or FDNY are eligible for an annual tuition credit of $500 through
the Fortis Fund program. Financial Aid Each year, Xaverian is able to offer tuition assistance through the generosity of its alumni, parents, and friends. Last year, Xaverian was able to offer nearly $1 million in need-based financial aid. Families must apply annually for need-based financial aid, which is limited and determined by the evaluation of each individual case. Along with your admissions decision, you will be notified as to whether or not you have been granted a financial aid award. Applications can be completed online at www.fairapp.com. Xaverian’s School Code is 132 and the password is xhs132. The Financial Aid Application deadline for incoming freshmen is December 14th, 2015. Xaverian’s Catholic Educators Grant Xaverian offers a $1,000 grant to families where at least one parent is a full time educator or administrator in a Catholic school in New York City. Parents must submit verification by November 20th, 2015. Outside Grants The Columbus Citizens Foundations provides scholarships to eligible students of Italian-American descent. Visit www.columbuscitizensfd.org for details. The Holy Name Society offers scholarships for Catholic High School to the children of NYPD Families. Visit www.bqholyname.org for details. Loan Programs The Bay Ridge Federal Credit Union and Oceanside Christopher Catholic Credit Union offer low rate loans for Catholic high school education. For more details go to: www.brfcu.org and www.thecatholiccreditunion.org. Grant for Military Families Xaverian offers a grant for applicants whose parent(s) is/are an active member of the military.
