To whom it may concern,
I am writing this letter to provide a character reference for Xanades, who worked under my supervision during her time at Blue Wheelbarrow Farm. As Xanades’ manager, I had the pleasure of witnessing her exceptional work ethic, dedication, and positive attitude. Xanades consistently impressed me with her readiness to tackle any task at hand. Whether it was the daily farm chores or more challenging and physically demanding responsibilities, she approached her work with enthusiasm and a strong sense of responsibility. One of her standout qualities was her ability to intuitively understand what needed to be done without requiring constant direction or oversight. Notably, Xanades never complained, even when the work was strenuous and challenging. Her willingness to put in the effort to complete tasks demonstrated a remarkable level of commitment. She consistently maintained a positive and optimistic attitude, which had a positive impact on the team’s morale and work environment. In conclusion, I have no reservations in providing this reference for Xanades. She is a dedicated and hardworking individual who approaches her work with enthusiasm and a strong sense of responsibility. Her positive attitude and willingness to take on challenges make her a valuable asset to any team or organization. If you have any further questions or require additional information about Xanades, please do not hesitate to contact me at nmagpaintings@gmail.com

Fall 2022
Collective + Collection aims to explore the idea of communal and collective living through a multi-generational project in Palmas, Brazil. By removing conventional solid walls and introducing an open floor concept with many shared spaces, the hope is to create a strong sense of community by allowing occupants to live under one roof in harmony. On each site, there are four residential buildings with private rooms, kitchens, washrooms, and other amenities, integrated with public programming dedicated to the Fruit and Vegetable Market, and the collection process. Mango, avocado, taro, ginger, and more, are grown and harvested on-site through elevated collection passages that reach up to the heights of the trees on site. To achieve more verticality, floors connected to these collection passages will be focused on this public programming, exploring social and communal activities. The ground level of each building complex is open to the larger Quadra with access to public kitchens, restaurants, seating, and, of course, vendors for fruits and vegetables.

Buildings produce ~40% of global emissions Manufacturing steel and concrete produces ~5% of global emissions
For a steel and concrete building: 2000 metric tons CO2 produced
Green Roof Gardens Glulam Beam If that same building were mass timber: 2000 metric tons of CO2 sequestered
There’s not enough data to determine whether or not mass timber is a completely beneficial solution to combat climate change if it is to succeed, the logging industry must adapt as well to employ sustainable practices Clear-cutting forests while they are still young removes all biodiversity from the area. this must be avoided
Rainwater Drain

Our local supplier: Element5
In order to continue sequestering carbon, the mass timber must be reused or stored carefully to protect from decomposition Our solution: regular wooden members aligned on a logical grid, and reusable prefabricated Glulam facade panels

WEST 5TH McKinley Studios
Fall 2021
This basswood model of an office building was crafted using a combination of techniques. The wooden components of the model were shaped using a table saw, hand saw, and laser cutting. The screens and corrugated walls were 3D printed with a wood filament, while the acrylic glazing was sanded to create a frosted effect.

Fall 2019
Inspired by Paul Klee’s Monument in Fertile Country, this project aims to transform the essence of the painting into a three-dimensional form. Key geometric elements within the cube were derived by distilling the painting to its core lines. The arrangement of various foam pieces mirrors the rectangular shapes found in a range of sizes within the painting.

Fall 2019
This pavilion was designed to serve as a space for gathering, resting, and viewing. Upon entering the pavilion, visitors are immediately greeted by the juxtaposition of massive objects, supported only by slender posts, which create narrow openings for the entrance of natural light. Once inside, the pavilion comprises a central gathering area, which also acts as a buffer zone between the resting and viewing areas. The resting area is sunken into the ground, providing a sense of separation from the communal gathering space. As visitors ascend the stairs, they reach the elevated viewing area. Here, abundant natural light fills the roofless top level, where two large openings offer delightful views for visitors to enjoy.
