Biography of Xamantha Descallar

Xamantha Descallar is a college student who studies Microbiology at Texas A&M University and Lone Star College. She is fluent in English and has a good understanding of Cebuano and Japanese She dedicates a significant amount of her time to volunteering at medical facilities,

including Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Medical Center and Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital. Her primary academic interests are nursing, pathology, and forensic science, which are supported by strong academic grades Outside of school, she spends her time on digital art, photography, cooking, playing musical instruments, dancing, singing, and learning new languages.

Early Life and Cultural Background

Xamantha Pearl Gales Descallar was born in Cebu, Philippines When she was only a year old, her family moved to the United States This early relocation exposed her to a range of languages and cultures. At home, Cebuano was the primary language spoken, which is a regional language widely used across the Visayas English was also used regularly, giving her a strong foundation in both languages from a young age

Education and Academic Excellence

Xamantha’s formal schooling began in Lehighton, Carbon County, Pennsylvania. There, she performed well in primary and secondary education Later, she relocated to Spring, Texas, to seek greater educational opportunities She attended Irons Junior High School and Oak Ridge High School, where she joined several clubs and organizations. Some of the groups she became involved with were the Robotics Club, Science Bowl (where she served as team captain and led her team to a third-place finish), the Art Club, Yearbook Club, Drone Club, and Biotechnology Club. She also became a member of the National Art Honor Society and the National Honor Society

During her time in school, she earned a range of awards She was recognized for her academic achievements with Student Achieving Excellence awards and an Academic Excellence award in 2019. She received first place in the District 5 CYO Spelling Bee three years in a row, from 2013 to 2015 Her aptitude in mathematics was noted, as evidenced by her awards for success in geometry and other math courses In 2020, she reached a significant milestone when she placed second in the SCI: TECH Biotechnology Competition, recognized for her exceptional skills in data analysis

By 2023, she graduated from Oak Ridge High School, finishing in the top 10% of her class and earning the title of Magna Cum Laude Currently, she attends Texas A&M University and Lone Star College. Her goal is to complete her Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology ahead of schedule. She plans to obtain a license in Microbiology and then enter an accelerated nursing program as part of her postgraduate training Her studies continue to focus on microbiology, nursing, pathology, and potentially forensic science.

Volunteerism and Community Engagement

Xamantha has developed a wide-ranging record of volunteer service Her first noted volunteer role was in April 2019, when she helped with IRONMAN Texas in The Woodlands. There, she set up aid stations and managed supplies for the marathon participants

In November 2019, she supported the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion’s 24th Annual Children’s Festival by assisting with minigames and other activities for children She returned to help again at the same festival in 2022, showing her continued commitment to community work.

Between December 2021 and 2023, she volunteered at the Montgomery Food Bank in Conroe She handled duties such as sorting non-food donations, organizing meat products by safety and freshness, and preparing produce for distribution

During the summer of 2022, she took part in the Houston Methodist Caring Teen Summer Internship Program In the Nursing Department, she contributed by helping create a clean environment, recording patient needs, and assisting staff with care. In the Food & Nutrition Department, she helped plan meals, provided information about dietary options, and supported meal preparation and restocking activities

Xamantha has also volunteered at local events, such as the Fall Festival in Conroe There, she helped prepare marketing materials and contributed supplies At the Family Gift Market Parent Shopping Event in Spring, she assisted parents in selecting gifts and participated in setting up and cleaning up after the event

In December 2022, she participated in the Houser Elementary Breakfast with Santa, where she assisted with managing games for children and handling event setup

More recently, in September 2024, she contributed to a Service Learning Workday at The Gardens at Texas A&M University, where she assisted with terrain restoration In April 2025, she assisted with the Science Olympiad competition in College Station, providing support for event scoring and logistics As of June 2025, she has been volunteering at Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Medical Center Her work there includes helping with patient discharges, delivering specimens and flowers, maintaining inventory, preparing patient kits, cleaning rooms, and supporting hospital staff in various tasks

Language Proficiency and Cultural Interests

Xamantha Pearl Gales Descallar is mainly fluent in English, with conversational skills in Cebuano. She also has an intermediate level of Japanese, estimated at N5-N4 proficiency. In the past, she explored learning Norwegian, Russian, and German Most of her language study has been self-directed, although she also took Japanese courses in high school and college

As of 2025, she continues to practice Cebuano and Japanese and has begun learning Spanish Her long-term goal is to reach conversational or near-native fluency in Cebuano, Japanese, Spanish, and perhaps German. She believes that being able to communicate in multiple

languages will enable her to care for patients from diverse backgrounds and connect with various cultures while traveling.

Personal Interests and Hobbies

Outside her academic and volunteer activities, Xamantha Descallar has many hobbies that show her creativity and personal interests She enjoys playing video games, particularly online computer games, which she uses to stay in touch with friends from different parts of the world.

Digital art is another pastime she enjoys She creates pieces inspired by media, personal experiences, and memories shared with friends and family. Photography has been a growing passion for about six years She began by taking photos on trips to the Philippines and has continued photographing nature and everyday life on her college campus She also has a moderate interest in cooking and sometimes documents the dishes she prepares or those shared by friends from other cultures

Since childhood, Xamantha has been interested in music She first tried learning the recorder and piano, later exploring the acoustic guitar and the ocarina While living in Pennsylvania, she performed dance routines on stage with her mother for the Kenlin Dance Academy. She still enjoys dancing and hopes to take Hip-Hop Dance classes in the future to explore a more energetic style

Along with her art and gaming, she enjoys singing karaoke, whether alone, with family, or with friends. She views karaoke as an enjoyable way to connect with her loved ones, singing different songs at home or while traveling together. She considers karaoke a special part of her Filipino heritage, making it a favorite activity during family events and celebrations

Through her studies, service, and creative pursuits, Xamantha Descallar demonstrates a strong commitment to learning, community support, and personal growth
