Exhibitions Beers, Bacon Badgers and Bhajis: Traditional and New Food in Wycombe District Upstairs temporary exhibitions space

One Thousand Years of the Jewish Heritage of South East England 3 June - 30 June l Small Learning Room This fascinating history is not widely known. It has been recently researched and this new and highly illustrated exhibition tells the story of the history, places and buildings of England’s oldest minority community throughout the South East. Wycombe District is rich in Jewish connections from the Middle Ages to World War 2. A project by Oxford Chabad Society and JTrails, the official National Jewish Heritage Trail of the UK and part of the European Route of Jewish Heritage.

This exhibition celebrates everything edible and delicious in Wycombe District from prehistory to the present day. Did you know that Wycombe District had its own chocolate factory and that cherries were once a local speciality? Or that Tudor dinner guests were expected to bring their own cutlery? Find out all about local specialities such as Bucks bacon badgers and lardy cakes, as well as newer menu options from the Caribbean and Pakistan. With lots of hands-on activities for all.

Supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund. This exhibition is in our Small Learning Room which is sometimes booked by groups or for meetings. Please phone in advance to find out if we have a room booking before making a special journey to see it.

Chair Cleaning Project The downstairs temporary exhibition space will be closed throughout spring and summer to allow us to work on a chair conservation project. Our Collections Care Assistant can usually be seen on Thursdays working in the gallery.
