The road to an efficient fleet management is wide open was an ambiguous year for the international fleet business. At one hand we have seen a new openness in terms of fleet investment and attention to new business initiatives after the difficult period of 2009 and 2010. International fleet managers as well as international fleet suppliers understand the need to develop new business opportunities and search for partnerships not only based on cost elements but also on added value services. On the other hand the lasting financial and economic turbulence in different regions risk to create a renewed and stronger focus on primary challenges, such as cost control and business rationalization. The question will be how these two observations evolve in the near future and can be kept in balance, as it would be a pity that new developments and necessary evolutions in international fleet management are disturbed from being integrated.

More than ever the road to efficient mobility has found its place at the heart of modern fleet management. Pushed by urban development, traffic problems and tax regulations for company cars, fleet managers are more and more willing to integrate new mobility services to optimize the work-life balance of their employees. The fleet industry responds adequately with new services and products but as long as the infrastructure is not in place and the governmental entities do not speak with one clear voice, the road to a new efficient mobility will take longer than expected. Linked to this new mobility, the intelligent connectivity between the car, the driver, the company and the environment is a second important requirement to optimize fleet management in general and driver comportment and road safety in particular. Also in this area the fleet industry is proposing an ever wider range of devices, features and online services that help the international fleet manager to improve driver safety and stimulate TCO- and CO2-reduction.
