This will be Allen’s seventh season leading the WVSU Softball Program. Prior to becoming the head coach he spent 9 years as an assistant and pitching coach. Prior to coming to WV State University, Bob coached a successful Nitro High School program for 5 years and compiled a 91 -45 record. As an assistant the Yellowjackets compiled a 168-114 record and as the Head Coach, WVSU is 197-133. The softball team under Allen has twice broken the win loss record with a 41-20-1 and a 41-16 season. They have also claimed the programs only Tournament Championship in 2008. Coach Allen is a retired electrical contractor and lives in Cross Lanes with his wife Mary. Bob and Mary have 4 children and 5 grandchildren. Coach Allen has built the program to a level which makes it competitive in the WVIAC and against the top teams in our region and against top 20 teams. He is committed to recruiting top West Virginia athletes and talent from throughout the United States.

22

ASSISTANT COACH PHILLIP “NIP” ANDERSON Nip begins his fifth season and has developed one of the top defenses in the WVIAC. Anderson coached Little League softball squads in various age groups to 10 state championships in 11 seasons. His 1999 group was the first team from the state to qualify for the Big League softball World Series. He repeated the trip in 2002 and then became an assistant coach at the University of Charleston for three seasons.

ASSISTANT COACH KERRI BLACKWELL This is Kerri’s fourth season as the Strength and Conditioning Coach for the Yellow Jackets softball team. Her softball career officially began as she was a standout player for Herbert Hoover High School (1996-1998). As a senior she received honors as Team Captain, Kanawha County Player of the Year, and a softball scholarship to the University of Charleston. During her tenure at U.C. she received WVIAC honors all four years and was team captain her senior year while consistently leading the team and conference in stolen bases. In 2002 she graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Education (K-8).
