I. History
Milestones in the History of WU (I) 1898
Founded as the Imperial Export Academy, located in Vienna’s Palais Festetics
1916
Moves to a new building next to Vienna’s Währinger Park
1919
Becomes the state-run University of World Trade
1948
Degree programs include Global Trade, Business Administration, Economics, and
Business Education 1975
The University is restructured and receives the name Wirtschaftsuniversität Wien

The Universities Act (UG 2002) grants autonomy to Austria’s universities

WU’s New Campus: Building More Than Just Buildings (I) International orientation. Location and status of the LLC show academic priorities research and teaching. The campus demonstrates that size and quality can go hand-in-hand overall academic concept. Quality means diversity diversity of faculty and students, variety of subjects, research methods and political positions.

WU’s New Campus: Building More Than Just Buildings (II) The campus creates more room for social, cultural and political life at WU. Attending a university is more than just academic training WU is part of the social and political life of the city. WU has an impact on the national economy and business landscape. The campus changes the environment WU has to make changes to its social and political environment as well (“Green Drivers”). WU’s new campus is a benchmark of what tomorrow’s university should look like.
