SEASON REVIEW Looking Back at 2016 In 2016, Washburn baseball added two more wins to its overall record from the season before to finish 34-20, marking the first time the program has had back-to-back 30-win seasons since 1989 and 1990. Under second-year head coach Harley Douglas, the Ichabods went 26-13 in conference play and entered the MIAA tournament as the three seed before being eliminated on the final day. After going 14-12 in the first half of the year, the lineup then hit its stride with 20 wins during its final 28 games including a 15-1 stretch from March 30- April 24. MIAA accolades. The selections were headlined by David Gauntt and Nick Silva who not only were placed on the first team, but were named MIAA Player and Pitcher of the Year respectively. Kyle Carnahan also landed first team honors, while Riley Krane and Parker Gibson were third team selections. Greg Mason, Jaren Kutzke and Lance Barkley were each named honorable mentions. Silva was also named two numerous all-region teams. Gauntt meanwhile earned All-America honors from D2CCA and NCBWA before being selected in the MLB Amatuer Draft (Rd. 18, Pick 533) by the Miami Marlins.
