They lost in the first round of the South Central region tournament and finished with a 30-6 overall record. Washburn finished the season ranked No. 13 in the final AVCA national poll. The Lady Blues went 33-2 in the regular season and set a school record with a 27-match winning streak, a 29-set winning streak and a record of eight straight 3-0 match sweeps. They finished first in the MIAA West Division and third in the MIAA postseason tournament. Truman hosted the NCAA South Central Region tournament and the Lady Blues were the No. 2 seed. The Lady Blues cruised to 3-0 victories in the first two rounds and then topped TSU for the second time that year on the road. After getting through the region tournament with a 37-3 record Washburn was awarded the right to host the national tournament. The Lady Blues packed Lee Arena with a school-record 2,231 fans as they overcame a 2-0 deficit against No. 1 Tampa in the quarterfinal. The next day Western Washington topped WU 3-1 to end Washburn’s season at 38-4. The Lady Blues won the region tournament for the first time and advanced further into the NCAA tournament than ever before. They finished with a school-best No. 3 national ranking.
