Jauchzet Dem Herrn Make a joyful noise to the Lord,
 all the earth;
 serve the Lord with joy.
Come into his presence with rejoicing.!

J. S. Bach

Jesu Meine Freude J. S. Bach O Jesus, my joy, Now there is no condemnation
My heart’s pasture, for those who are in Christ Jesus,
Jesus, my adornment, who walk not according to the flesh,
Oh how long, how long but according to the Spirit. (Rom 8:1)
 Has my heart been anxious
 And longed for you.
 Lamb of God, my bridegroom,
On earth never will there be
Anything dearer to me than you.

O Salutaris Hostia O, salutary Victim, Who expandest the door of heaven, Hostile wars press, Give strength; bear aid. To the Triune Lord, May there be everlasting glory; that life without end He to us give in our homeland. Amen.

Erik Esenvalds

Kyrie Lord, have mercy.
 Christ, have mercy.
 Lord, have mercy.

Norman Luboff

Exhilaration (170) Oh! May I worthy prove to see The saints in full prosperity. Then my troubles will be over.

Sacred Harp

!

To see the bride, the glittering bride, Close seated by her Saviour’s side. Then my troubles will be over.

!

I never shall forget the day when Jesus washed my sins away. And then my troubles will be over.

Arise, My Soul, Arise Arise, my soul, arise, shake off thy guilty fears. The bleeding Sacrifice in my behalf appears: Before the Throne my Surety stands. My name is written on His hands.

Dan Forrest

!

Five bleeding wounds He bears, received on Calvary, They pour effectual prayers, they strongly plead for me: “Forgive him, O, forgive,” they cry, “Nor let that ransomed sinner die.”

!

My God is reconciled, His voice I hear, He owns His child, I can no longer fear; With confidence I now draw nigh, And “Father, Abba, Father,” cry.

When Jordan Hushed His Waters Still When Jordan hushed his waters still, And silence slept on Zion’s hill: When Bethlehem shepherds through the night Watched o’er their flocks by starry light,

Stanford Scriven

!

Hark! From the midnight hills around, A voice of more than mortal sound In distant hallelujahs stole Wild murm’ring o’er the raptured soul.

continued…

When Jordan Hushed His Waters Still On wheels of light, on wings of flame, The glorious hosts of Zion came; High heaven with songs of triumph rung, While thus they struck their harps and sung:

Stanford Scriven

!

“O Zion, lift thy raptured eye, The long expected hour is nigh; The joys of nature rise again, The Prince of Salem comes to reign.

!

“He comes to cheer the trembling heart, Bids darkness and his host depart; Again the daystar gilds the gloom, Again the bowers of Eden bloom.

I Hear Thy Voice I hear Thy voice, dear Lord; I hear it by the stormy sea When winter nights are black and wild And when, affright, I call to Thee; It calms my fears and whispers me, “Sleep well, my child,”

Susan LaBarr

!

I hear Thy voice, dear Lord; In singing winds, in falling snow, The curfew chimes, the midnight bell. “Sleep well, my child,” it murmurs low, “The guardian angels come and go, O child, sleep well!”

!

I hear Thy voice, dear Lord, Ay, though the singing winds be stilled, Though hushed the tumult of the deep, My fainting heart with anguish chilled By Thy assuring tone is thrilled, “Fear not, and sleep!”

! !

continued…

I Hear Thy Voice Speak on- speak on, dear Lord! And when the last dread night is near, With doubts and fears and terrors wild, Oh, let my soul expiring hear Only these words of heavenly cheer, “Sleep well, my child!”

God of Grace and God of Glory God of grace and God of Glory On Thy people pour Thy power; Crown Thine ancient church’s story Bring her bud to glorious flow’r. Grant us wisdom, grant us courage, For the facing of this hour.

Susan LaBarr

Paul Langston

!

Lo! the hosts of evil ’round us,
Scorn Thy Christ, assail His ways.
From the fears that long have bound us,
Free our hearts to faith and praise.
Grant us wisdom, grant us courage,
For the living of these days.

!

Set our feet on lofty places,
Gird our lives that they may be,
 Armored with all Christ-like graces,
In the fight to set men free.
Grant us wisdom, grant us courage,
That we fail not man nor Thee. Amen.

Yaze ya khalingane Oh how this child cries in this house!

You Must Have that True Religion Oh, you must have that true religion, You must have your soul converted, You must have that true religion Or you can’t cross there.

Roland Carter

!Where have you been, poor sinner?

Where have you been, I say? I’ve been way down to the river of Jordan. No, you can’t cross there.

!Oh, you must have that true religion, You must have your soul converted, You must have that true religion Or you can’t cross there.

!Where have you been, good Christian?

Where have you been so long? I’ve been way down in the valley for to pray, And I ain’t done praying yet.

!

Oh, give me that ol’ time religion. It’s good enough for me. Wade in the Water Wade in the water, God’s gonna trouble the water.

Moses Hogan

! See that host all dressed in white. The leader looks like an Israelite. !

See that band all dressed in red. Well it looked like the band that Moses led. Elijah Rock Come on sister help me to pray, Tell me my Lord done pass this way. Elijah rock, shout, shout. Elijah rock, comin’ up Lord. Satan’s ain’t nothin’ but a snake in the grass. He’s a conjur, He’s a liar. Hallelujah Lord. If I could I surely would Stand on the rock where Moses stood.

Wingate University Choral Music

Through regional concert tours and state-wide engagements, the Wingate University Choirs are recognized for excellence. With four choirs available to music majors and non-majors, every student at Wingate is offered a place to sing and is encouraged to make music performance a vital part of their undergraduate liberal arts education. This singing experience is rooted in a varied repertoire that represents Western and non-western musical traditions, American sacred music, gospel and spirituals, folk songs, and hymns. Recent performance opportunities include J. S. Bach’s St. John Passion, Duruflè’s Requiem, Mendelssohn’s Elijah, and Handel’s Messiah. Committed to global education, the choirs have travelled to South Africa and to the Baltic countries of Estonia and Latvia where they received Grand Prix honors at the Pärnu International Choral Festival. Participation in University Singers, Chamber Choir, Women’s Choir, and Men’s Choir encourages the students to engage vocally, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually as they practice and perform. In turn, the singers strive to inspire and engage their listeners’ minds, souls, and spirits through informed, artistic performance. At Wingate, we strongly believe that the performing arts are an important element of a comprehensive collegiate education. Our vocal and instrumental music programs promote interdisciplinary learning and assist in the development of the whole person: body, mind, and spirit. The participating students, which represent dozens of academic disciplines, enjoy an enriched experience and broadened global perspective.
