We have a new add-on to ReRun the roping calf. By adding three additions you can now have a team roping steer 1. Add a steer head which goes right over the calf head and bolts on. 2. Remove the hitch from the calf and add gig wheels which allows the {steer} to move sideways and release from whatever is pulling it. 3. Add the leg attachment for roping back legs. You can now convert the tie-down calf to a team roping steer! After the header ropes the head he pulls the steer sideways which releases the steer from whatever is pulling it, now the header is pulling the steer so the heeler can now come in and rope the legs, allowing the team to stretch the steer out. ReRun is so versatile and easy to use for breakaway roping, tie-down roping and now team roping. The entire package sells for $2,400. We ship UPS. We stand behind our products and any new improvements will easily adjust to the original ReRun. Have Fun With ReRun!

Lucas Metal Works Lucas’ owner and founder, Raymond Lucas, designed an arena tool in 1996 for his family who are avid barrel racers. This all-in-one arena working tool would come to be known as The Ground Hog Arena Tool. The Ground Hog Arena Tool has become a nationwide success and the arena tool of choice for rodeo associations across the country including the granddaddy of them all, the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas, Nevada. From their local arena on site in rural Ochelata, Oklahoma to the big lights of the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, The Ground Hog Arena Tool, like most ventures at Lucas, has exceeded their wildest expectations. With years of experience within the agriculture industry manufacturing steel buildings for farm or ranch use and The Ground Hog Arena Tool for arena owners across the nation, Lucas decided that it only seemed fitting to develop an addition to the Ground Hog. Thus, The Watering System came about. Now you can work and water your ground all at once with the new Ground Hog Arena Tool.

Cactus Gear The newly designed Axiom Sport and Bell Boots by Cactus Gear are the perfect combination of protection and performance for your equine athlete. Protect and support that which matters most—your horse’s tendons and ligaments.

Micro Rain Micro Rain introduces a complete arena watering kit which includes Micro Rain self-retracting hose reel, gas or electric pump, and poly holding tank. These kits work great when water volume from a well is not adequate enough to operate the Micro Rain reel. The holding tank may be filled with your existing water source to create a “reservoir” of water which can then be pumped out using one of our high volume/high pressure pumps to allow maximum performance through the system. These kits may be created for any size Micro Rain unit depending on the desired amount of coverage you want for your arena. Call today for a quote on a system designed for your arena! xciting things are happening for us this year. STS Ranch Wear has taken off in a big way and I’ve been traveling for promotions and meetings while still going to some rodeos. Currently I’m on the road for one of those meetings. When this trip first came up, I was wondering if it would be worthwhile because of the time away from home and the things I would miss. Plus, I knew I would be traveling extensively for the next six weeks.

22 • MARCH 2013

I prayed about it and just had today. I was doing a radio a feeling about it. Though this interview and scheduled to sign wasn’t necessarily the biggest autographs immediately after. account we might ever have, I During the interview, I noticed a felt I needed to be here. It’s been young boy, about eight years old, a good reminder to never waiting patiently for me. When underestimate the value of a the interview was over, I went relationship. but not nearly as big as my granddad was.” I asked him what his granddad’s name was and wrote out an autograph for him as well. I asked if he would give that to his granddad and he answered, “You bet, I’ll stop by on my way home and lay it on his grave. That will make him really happy.”

T

Now, whether I was meant to be there for business or to make the day of an eight-year-old boy, I don’t know for sure. But I do know we shouldn’t be quick to pass on opportunities. When you seize those opportunities I think it’s important to be present and aware. It may not always be about what benefits you.

he scripture says, “It’s more blessed to give, than to receive.” Giving and receiving always seems to be an issue with people who value possessions more than people. A core value that I have learned over time to adhere to is that people are God’s greatest treasure. One of the hardest things in life is to find a balance between valuing people and valuing our possessions. If people are God’s greatest treasure, we should never value our possessions over people. Many people in our society today are really good at giving to less fortunate people and to charitable organizations. A great challenge that many people have is receiving a gift of value from someone else. Many are good at giving, but also many are very poor at receiving a gift. Pride enters into the equation at some point as to whether we are healthy people at giving, but also receiving. Chances are if you’re not good at receiving from people, there might be a problem with receiving from God. Pride is a terrible thing if it interferes with God’s plan to bless us. A few years back I felt like God wanted me to give a somewhat wealthy man a horse. When I offered him the horse, he said, “I can’t take that, no one has ever given me anything like this before.” My reply to him was, “You don’t have to take the horse, but if you don’t then you are possibly going against God’s plan for you to be blessed.” (Please understand this was not a crummy horse, it was a very well trained roping horse.) When he realized that God loved him enough to bring a specific blessing, he began to

Sometimes you’re the one who can help and will be the giver in the relationship. But, if you’re really fortunate, like I was today, you’ll get to do both. Until next time, God Bless, and I’ll see you down the line.

Givers and Takers cry and said, “If this is what God wants for me, I will take the horse.” There are many gifts that God wants to give to people. The most valuable gift, is the gift of salvation and a relationship with our Creator. If we’re not good at receiving tangible gifts, chances are good that we may pass on the most valuable gift that has been made available to mankind, the gift of eternal life. Romans 5:17 For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God’s abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ. Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. PRACTICE WITH THE PROS

Ground Work Flanking and Tying From the Chute If it is done correctly, flanking and tying from the chute is a great way to practice your ground work. On your very first run always make sure that you don’t make any bobbles or mistakes. You only get one run in a rodeo, and you want to have the muscle memory of being smooth so you don’t make mistakes in competition. When flanking and tying, whether you’re using live calves or the “Tuf Kaf,” always make sure to never short cut, so you won’t create bad habits. The easiest bad habit to create is short cutting your flank and string. Most of the time we want to hurry to the tying part and we forget about the other parts of our run. But, I have learned from everyone I have worked with, that in order to have a good run and be fast, you have to make every part of your run smooth. The best way to accomplish that is to concentrate on every step, to ensure that everything is sharp and correct. One way to help yourself out of a bad habit of short cutting is to flank and tie bigger calves, or the “Tuf Kaf.”

800.827.7613

This way it is harder to just spin a tie on and short cut yourself. “The fastest way to overcome a bad habit is to completely over emphasize everything that you do.” When you draw the best calf in the pen, whether it’s at a rodeo or a roping, you have practiced over emphasizing your whole run and that calf will be a lot easier to make a good run on and be smooth. Always remember that smooth is fast, you win your buckles in the practice pen and collect them at the rodeos.

arch is here. That means this month we will witness another turning of spring and the beginning of 2013 Daylight Savings; another St. Patrick’s Day, Good Friday, Palm Sunday, Passover, Holy Thursday and Easter which this year will fall on the last day of March. What I bet you did not know is that March 8 will be International Women’s Day, March 14 will be World Kidney Day and March 30 will be National Doctors’ Day. The month of March is also Red Cross Month, Women’s History Month, National Nutrition Month, Workplace Eye Wellness Month, National Caffeine Awareness Month, National Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Awareness Month, National Clean Up Your IRS Act Month, Sing With Your Child Month, Adopt A Rescued Guinea Pig Month and Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, just to name a few. Finally, the March 1/38 4(/3743 '3*'11 '61/71+ 8+61/3- 2/8. .'3+ '3).+= '88 ./4>';' '*+ 433+6 978/3 ''77 8+8743 "+78 +642+ ).3++(+6-+6 .+3 /).'6* '*+ ;46 /22= 925+6 '66+88 .6+'*-/11 '3+ /77')0 '68= %'8+7 497843 9884 '1+( 2/*8 1'/6 960 1/38 445+6 /2'6643 4'6*2'3 '743 ).',,+6 +6+2/'. ++0 =743 96,+= 47. ++0 6'<843 '9-.1/3 ='3 '66+88 /1+= 69/88 978/3 ./-5+3 4+ 64;3 1'0+ /6*+7 '0+ '3392 .'3+ 1')0 /2 .'66 +77+ 1'60 .'7+ #/11/'27 =1+6 ./+1 47+5. flower is the daffodil. Wow, that’s a lot of stuff to pack into a month and we have a lot to prepare for. If you are like me, you might wear green on March 17, you will be looking forward to the longer days that the month welcomes and you will enjoy the celebration of Easter and the remembrance of what that one event has done to save so many souls around the world. One final thing that the calendar forgot to mention is March is the official kickoff of rodeo events across the country. Man… how did that get skipped over? March is no doubt the time cowboys and cowgirls everywhere get serious about the season’s events. They start mapping out ropings and rodeos they want to attend and begin to daydream about winning big this year. March offers many a new beginning to a new season. Sure,

some have been to a few events already this year, but with longer days in the saddle and the fresh crop of events starting to appear in advertisements, the start to the season is really embraced this month. So it is time to do the annual muck out of the trailer, replace any tack that may have lost its functionality last year, tune up the horses and hit the road. However, remember to plan, set goals and get yourself prepared in order to have a shot at winning. There will be plenty of payouts available, lots of prizes awarded and titles to be won. Whether you are a weekend contender or planning on a complete season of rodeoing, be prepared! As for me and the month of March, I guess I will buy me a guinea pig cage, talk to my doctor to see if I qualify for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome—or at leastINget a double P/U W CH VSA HOUSE PROOF shot of caffeine in my coffee each day to see if that helps—cuss the IRS once again, stop to smell a daffodil, learn a new song I can impress my boys with and enjoy Easter with my family! Until next time – Enjoy Spring, Ryan Davis
