He called to her from the garden They met up on her balcony And lay down on their backs to watch the stars He told her he would always be there, and she believed him He reached out for her hand, But she held her own. He asked her to a ball And they swayed in the hallway He stepped on her toes, but brought her ice Loud, lavish cherubs fired from their perches She deflected the first strike, But gave in to the next and enjoyed the pain. He asked her if it was okay If he danced in the ballroom with someone else, And someone else, and someone else Her blood spilled out of the wound as she observed, And refused gause offered by suitors She insisted she would heal.
