How to get involved in Baldwin Park T
here is never a dull day in Baldwin Park. Everywhere you turn, there is something going on around town — you just have to know where to look. Whether it’s clubs, classes or comedy nights, there is something constantly going on to occupy almost every day of the week. Here are some ways you can get involved.
CLUBS
From relaxing to active, weekly meetings to monthly, there is a club for everyone in your family! Baldwin Park is fortunate enough to be located near a beautiful lake, which gives residents the opportunity to picnic on the shore line or even take a sailing course. Learn basic sailing skills and terminology from the instructors of the Central Florida Community Sailing Program. The next class begins Monday, May 2. Minimum age to participate is 16, and parents must be present for the sessions. There will be an additional class starting Saturday, June 4. The program also offers a two-day class for $160 or a five-day class for $200. For more, call (407) 645-1892 or visit thesailingclub.us/classes. Baldwin Park Gardeners Growing Together is a fun, outdoor club for those who love gardening and visiting local gardens. It meets with local experts, who teach everything from how to grow in raised beds to how to grow your own citrus trees. Contact Alyson at alysonescribano@gmail.com for more information. If you are looking for some competition mixed with exercise, then you may want to sign up for

the Tennis Club, which meets Thursday nights. It is a fast-growing club that is always looking for new members. Find out more information by contacting Ceci at crmdesign@yahoo.com or searching for “Baldwin Park Tennis Club” on Facebook. NIFTY 50’s is open to Baldwin Park residents who are 50 and older (or if you’re a couple and one of you is 50 or older). The club enjoys coffee from 9 to 10:30 a.m. the first Thursday of the month at Café 906, 4932 New Broad St. It holds Happy Hour every third Thursday at a local Baldwin Park restaurant. For more, email niftyfiftiesplus@ gmail.com. Rotary Club of the Parks is not a resident-exclusive club, but it brings the surrounding parks and communities together to give back to the community, help with business development and provide the opportunity to meet new people who share interests. For more information, email Dan Galante, djgalante@gmail.com, or visit BaldwinParkRotary.com. Have a relaxing night in with one of the book clubs that meets in Baldwin Park. Writers Block meets monthly to discuss the latest read. The next meeting is scheduled for May 10. For more information, email klhgibbons@ gmail.com.
COMMITTEES
Joining a committee will take your community involvement to the next level. From helping design flags around town to solving local issues, getting involved with a committee is more important now than ever. Please consider volun-
teering your time and talent to serve our community as a board member for either the Residential Owners Association Inc. or Commercial Owners Association Inc. There are seats opening on both boards in August. Watch for more information starting next month on how to submit your name as a candidate. This is your opportunity to have your voice count in the governance of Baldwin Park as you represent your fellow members. For questions, email Stacey at sfryrear@baldwinparkpoa. com for information on the ROA process, or Bill at bpatterson@ baldwinparkpoa.com for the COA process. If you are looking to join a committee but focus more on how you can help your local schools, sign up for your local school’s PTA! They host lots of events, fun activities and are always looking for help. From baking to designing flyers, there is a something for everyone to do. The Baldwin Park Elementary School PTA hosted its Spring Fest recently; we can’t wait to see what other activities it has planned. Check your weekly newsletter for upcoming happenings or follow the PTA on Facebook at “Baldwin Park Elementary PTA.”
WEEKLY EVENTS
Does your schedule change at the drop of a dime, making it difficult to make plan a few weeks in advance? Don’t worry! There are weekly events you can join anytime you have free time! Tactical Brewing Co. hosts trivia nights from 7 to 9 p.m. every Wednesday, with prizes for the first-, second- and third-place
