Capaldi was unveiled as being the next Tardis resident after much speculation in a spectacular programme broadcast on BBC1 just over a year ago. “Being asked to play The Doctor is an amazing privilege,” he said at the time. “Like the Doctor himself I find myself in a state of utter terror and delight. I can’t wait to get started.” He’s been regarded as a top character actor for years thanks to roles in such diverse projects as Local Hero, The Hour and, of course, The Thick of It, but his

profile has gone through the roof during the past 12 months thanks to Who – life will probably never be the same again for this quiet, private man from Glasgow. So, what does the new series hold for viewers? Lots of guest stars, including Keeley Hawes and Ben Miller. We’ve also been promised it will be darker in tone than previous runs. The opening episode is set in Victorian London, where a dinosaur is running wild in the River Thames, just as a spate of spontaneous combustions take place. Can the newly regenerated Doctor figure out what’s going on? And, can his friendship with Clara survive his personality switch?

Plus, the Doctor – a rather ancient 2,000 years of age, give or take a decade or two – will have new life breathed into him by an actor who has coveted the role since he was a boy.

Glasgow City Council leader Gordon Matheson said “This is a momentous day.

Job Centre officials deny advising no vote A Whitehall department had denied advising it’s staff to vote “No” in the forthcoming Scottish Independence Referendum.

A memo issued to employees at the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) was described by unions as “badly worded”. Permanent Secretary Robert Devereux has spoken of the legitimate and necessary support expected of civil servants for the UK Government’s position. A spokesman for the DWP said “of course” staff in Scotland had not been told how to vote. The memo said “It is important that, as

civil servants, we understand why the Scottish independence referendum is different from elections such as a UK General Election or a European Election.” However the Public and Commercial Services Union (PCS) said the memo was “poorly written, ill judged and patronising”. PCS Scottish Secretary Lynn Henderson said. “This is a very sensitive issue north of the border and one in which civil servants are all too aware of from both the UK and Scottish Government’s respective positions on independence. They remain bound by the civil service code.” By

Bus tycoons offer shipbuilders glimmer of hope. Rangers Football Club directors Sandy and James Easdale have appeared as fabled white knights as accountants for the pair unveiled plans to try and save Ferguson’s Shipbuilders.

Ferguson’s Shipbuilders which went into receivership last week, resulting in the loss of 70 jobs, has been handed a lifeline with Sandy Easdale saying “This is a highly skilled workforce and it is a vital business for our area. “With Government assistance both in Edinburgh and London, I am sure we can secure orders.” Ferguson’s Shipbuilders founded in 1903, is the last remaining commercial shipbuilder on the River Clyde and at the time of going into receivership, the workforce were working on a fishing boat and there is still eight weeks worth of work to be completed.

A source for the company said “Our biggest problem is time. We need to secure a buyer or we could end up losing that workforce.”

Mr Easdale said “We have turned round other companies such as Blairs Windows and McGills Buses which now has 1000 employees.”

Blair Nimmo, joint administrator and head of restructuring for KPMG in Scotland said that the shipbuilder was a leading name in the industry with a rich heritage dating back more than 110 years.”

The contractor will decide in three weeks whether that work should be completed at Ferguson’s or elsewhere.

There were only seven apprentices retained by the company after it was placed into voluntary administration.

The extent of the debts engulfing the company are yet to be disclosed, however they are believed to be significant, and have been increasing in recent months due to cash flow problems. With the Easdale brothers having a substantial track record in turning around failing businesses, it gives the 70 made redundant, and every other person connected with the historically significant shipbuilders a glimmer of hope. Nearly 1000 people object to proposed Southside gym A proposed gym in Glasgow’s Southside has run into some difficulty, after 950 people complained to the council, suggetsing that the new gym might lead to anti social behaviour and excess noise.

we are still not confident this will be refused. No one is listening.

Pure Gym has submitted a planning application for premises in the Shawlands Arcade but locals, including MSP Nicola Sturgeon as well as several other councillors, have requested that the arcade site should be specifically used for shops and cafés.

Resident Kenneth Grearson said “I get the feeling, and many of my neighbours get the feeling, that no one is listening to us.

Joanne Grant a nearby resident, said people were furious about the proposals and demanded them to be scrapped. Mrs Grant claimed that there are already enough gyms in the area, and if the application is successful could lead to anti-social behaviour and excess noise in the area she said “There have been 941 objections, yet Clyde Gateway 2014 ad copy.pdf

Asbestos scare at Holyrood Secondary

Horrified parents learned that while their children were enjoying their summer holidays, an asbestos scare erupted in their empty school.

There are already gyms in the area, there is not enough parking to accommodate this and Shawlands Arcade should be about local businesses for local people.”

“It feels very much like they are going over our head.” Proposals for the Pure Gym and eight parking spaces will go before the council later this week. A spokesman for Pure Gym said. “Our policy is to ensure that there is at least one member of staff on site. “We also have extensive CCTV throughout our gyms and at all entrances, which are monitored continually. 21/3/14

“We also have alarms linked to the emergency services, and we have no reason to believe that the gym will cause anti-social behaviour or noise.” By

Parents of children who are pupils at Holyrood Secondary learned that workmen carrying out roof repairs uncovered potentially lethal white and brown asbestos, and the work was completed less than a week before the new term started. Although Glasgow City Council assured parents that there was no danger to anyone who attends the school, parents were still angry they had failed to inform them of the potentially lethal discovery. Asbestos was first exploited in Glasgow in the 1800’s and in 1871 the Patent Asbestos Manufacturing Company was established. Asbestos was used from the construction of buildings to coating early prototype irons in it to keep heat. The Red Road flats were famously erected using huge swathes of Asbestos,

only to find our that it was possibly leaving irreversible health ailments with the people residing in the flats. Asbestos was used in the construction of many schools throughout the 70’s due to its, durability and its resistance to fire, heat and chemical damage, however it was later discovered that inhaling the spores from asbestos can lead to many types of terminal lung cancer.

The two types of asbestos found in the school were chysotile and amosite, although city council chiefs and Health and Safety Executive Inspectors were fully satisfied that it had been removed safely.

A council spokeswoman said “During repairs to the school’s roof, asbestos was identified and then removed in accordance with Health and Safety Executive guidance. Air testing has indicated that the asbestos has been successfully removed with work to remove the asbestos completed by August 6th.

Man robbed outside city centre bank A 36 year old man was attacked and robbed of a four figure sum of cash outside a city centre bank on Monday afternoon. The incident took place as the victim was making his way into the Royal Bank of Scotland, in Clifton Place, off Sauchiehall Street, at 14:20 on Monday. The suspect knocked the man to the ground, grabbed a bag containing the money and ran off. The victim was taken to hospital and treated for head and facial injuries. Last weekend a fellow Glasgow News reporter Jordan McConville and I decided to see what all the 2.8 Hour Later fuss was about. Before hand it was the usual, “yeah guys in makeup, making loud noises. What’s so scary about that.”

However as soon as you get your directive from the Sergeant in the army fatigues, and you are warned, not everyone will survive, the joking stops, the fear grows and it really does feel like normal order has broken down, and you and your band of survivors are civilizations last hope of redemption. Our mission...Protect the water carrier.

quick paced zombies (especially the blue jump suited fellow, I doff my hat to you sir).

The group numbers can vary, but the 11 of us were each given a map with co-ordinates to asylum, all that stood between us and success, was miles of unknown territory, a few pickup points. Oh and hordes of the un-dead, ready to rip your throat out and feast on your insides. No pressure.

Imagine the best scenes in all the most memorable zombie movies. Abandoned schools, warehouses with zombies hanged from a roof, huge storage facilities with the narrowest corridors, faltering electricity, highly realistic professionally trained, fast zombies, slow zombies and rescue missions.

Fear, mixed with adrenaline, can be a potent mix.

With a running time of upwards of two hours, it’s essential you bring the correct footwear, no one wants to try and outrun a zombie wearing Saturday night sliders. (or spend three hours wearing a rucksack, strapped to your back)

Its hard to pin-point what makes 2.8 Hours Later so damn successful/ terrifying/fun, everyone watching a zombie movie has wondered “What would I be like in a zombie apocalypse.”

Imagine the longest, scariest ghost train you’ve ever been on, throw in some role playing, and some seriously

2.8 Hours Later has it all.

2.8 Hours Later, two hours of temporary amnesia, two hours of fear, trepidation and an impending sense of doom. It no

longer becomes a role playing game, it becomes survival, survival horror, a matter of life and death Life on earth depends on the water carriers survival, and the water carrier is depending on us.

And God damn it, if I’m going to let Earth’s only hope of salvation, fall under my watch.

Did I survive the zombie apocalypse? Unfortunately not, I fell, ensuring the survival of the human race. Its better to die a somebody than live as a nobody. Will I do it again, in a heartbeat!

Would you survive 2.8 Hours Later?

Tel: 0141 778 8335 Protect your pet from pesky parasites! The warmer months are peak season for pesky parasites like fleas and ticks. Fleas are a major source of irritation to pets and owners alike. They feed on the animal’s blood and multiply rapidly to cause an infestation. As well as being found on your pet they will live in the carpets and bedding at home. Fleas are responsible for transmitting tapeworms in pets so worming your pet if you find fleas is also advisable. Ticks are found mainly in woodland areas or on the hills and moor land but can be found in areas of long grass, especially if deer or hedgehogs are in the area. Ticks also feed on your pets’ blood and can cause serious diseases such as Lyme’s disease as well as a reaction to the bite itself. It is important never to pull a tick from your pet’s body. This can result in the tick’s head being left in the skin, causing infection, pain and irritation. Tick removers are available to ensure safe and complete removal.

Angiostrongylus vasorum (also known as French Heartworm) is a parasite that infects dogs. The adult worms live in the heart and large blood vessels supplying the lungs and can cause a whole host of problems in affected animals and if left untreated it can be fatal. The lungworm parasite is carried by slugs and snails, which are often eaten by dogs on purpose or accidentally when attached to toys or grass or in outdoor water bowls. Symptoms range from breathing problems, blood clotting problems, general weakness and depression and even sudden collapse and death. Infection can be prevented by using a specific spot on preparation, available from your vet.

Lungworm is another parasite that is becoming increasingly common. The lungworm

Flies can cause a major problem to rabbits in warmer weather. They can lay eggs around the

rabbit’s bottom if it is soiled and quickly hatch into flesh eating maggots. It is important to check and clean your rabbit’s bottom every day and seek help from your vet if at all worried. Please contact Sandyhills Veterinary Clinic to discuss the best preventative products for your pet. Not every product treats every type of parasite so we will be happy to advice on the best options for your furry friends.

Edinburgh Zoo set to welcome the pitter patter of tiny panda feet

Scottish producer and DJ Calvin Harris has topped other famous dance music artists, such as David Guetta and Tiesto, to be named the top earning DJ of the last year.

“That indicates that the pregnancy is still there and we can then match it with a timetable.”

Dumfries-born Harris made $66 million in the last year, a jump of $20 million from his previous year’s cash.

Edinburgh Zoo has nicknamed the day P-Day, as the day that they are most likely to celebrate the arrival of tiny panda feet.

This year doctors responsible for the artificial insemination decided to use only Yang Guang’s semen whereas last year two panda’s were used.

Goeritz confirmed that although Tian Tian was 100% per cent pregnant, there was still a lot that could go wrong, and the days before the birth itself are always fraught with danger.

Panda’s are notoriously picky when choosing a mate and without choice Tian Tian is more often than not going to refuse Yang Guang’s promiscuous advances.

Fresh from a headline slot at T in the Park this year, Harris has enjoyed another successful year with his first U.S. top ten, Summer and becoming the furst artist to have nine UK top 10 singles from the same album.

Dr Frank Goeritz, the doctor responsible for artificially inseminating the Edinburgh based panda has said that the latest hormone test has pointed toward a birth on the 31st of August.

One thing that is certain, however, is the male panda Yang Guang is quite the stud in the animal kingdom.

Volunteer and help Scotland’s animals The Scottish SPCA is appealing to kind hearted people in Glasgow to help raise funds for abused, abandoned and injured animals by volunteering. Scotland’s animal welfare charity is urging locals to get involved this Scottish Animal Week, which runs from 1-7 September, by shaking a collection tin in their area. Anna O’Donnell, manager of the charity’s Glasgow Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre in Cardonald, said, “Last year our centre cared for a staggering 2,322 animals and this year is as busy as ever. “As an animal welfare charity, we receive no government or lottery funding and rely on the generosity of the public to continue our vital work. “During Scottish Animal Week we have opportunities to fundraise throughout Glasgow and we’d be very grateful if locals can get behind our appeal and help. “Door-to-door fundraising can be

carried out between Monday and Friday, while people can hold street collections on the Saturday. “Even if someone can only spare an hour or two to shake a collection tin, their time and efforts would be hugely appreciated. “It’s something we always say because it’s true, every pound and penny raised really does make a difference and gives animals in desperate need of our help a second chance in life.” Anyone who would like to help fundraise for the Scottish SPCA can contact the fundraising team on 03000 999 999 or email fundraising@scottishspca.org

Glasgow sports charity awarded £1 billion plus deal for Glasgow £1.5million in funding will create tens of thousands of jobs

The City Deal will boost Glasgow’s economy for the next twenty years after being formally sigtned today.

Scottish Sports Futures, a charity which delivers educational sport projects has received a welcome £1.5million in funding from the Government. The grant is from the Cashback for Communties fund which utilizes assets seized from criminals in provide benefits for the local community. The charity uses basketball to engage young people while offering advice and guidance on issues such as drugs, alcohol and diet. Judstice Secretary Kenny MacAskill said: “The curtain may have come

down on the best ever Commonwealth Games, but Cashback for Communities will help ensure the legacy of the Commonwealth Games lives on. “Scottish Sports Futures will bring many benefits to these young people, offering enjoyable and healthy alternatives to crime and anti-social behaviour. “What is most satisfying for me is that this excellent initiative is being supported by cash seized from the very criminals who seek to bring misery to these young people and their communities.”

It will fund major infrastructure projects in the city which could give Glasgow’s economy a permanent boost of £2.2 billion a year, while creating 15,00 jobs as construction work takes place. Once building work is completed, a further 28,000 permanent roles may be created. The deal is a huge coup for the city both fianancillay and in terms of job creation. The deal has been funded with £500 million from both the UK and Scottish government. Afurther £130 million will be borrowed by local authorities. Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Danny Alexander, Holyrood local government minister, Derek Mackay and Glasgow City Council Leader Gordon Mateson have all inked the contract to offically complete the deal. FRIDAY 22 - THURSDAY 28 AUGUST

Smitten Daniel Radcliffe and Zoe Kazan try to remain just friends in this charming romantic comedy. After being left with a broken heart, medical school dropout Wallace (Daniel Radcliffe) is avoiding romance. But then he meets flirty animator Chantry (Zoe Kazan) at a party. The connection between them is immediate. Unfortunately, Chantry reveals that she’s living with Ben (Rafe Spall), her boyfriend of five years. As Wallace and Chantry start hanging out together, bonding over their shared love of ‘The Princess Bride’, their friendship deepens. How long can they postpone the inevitable? Adapted from a stage play, this smart, whimsical indie take on romantic comedy conventions marks a major change of direction for ‘Goon’ director Mike Dowse. Former Harry Potter Daniel Radcliffe adds another string to his bow, making an engaging screen couple with ‘Ruby Sparks’ writer and star Zoe Kazan There’s strong support too from rising star Adam Driver as Wallace’s crazy best buddy Allan.

Lucy Scarlett Johansson stars in a breathtaking action-thriller about a woman who accidentally develops superhuman powers. In Taiwan, terrified young American Lucy (Scarlett Johansson) is abducted by a gang of brutal drug traffickers. Telling her that she is to become their mule, they sew packets of narcotics into her stomach. But when these leak into her bloodstream, Lucy undergoes an astonishing transformation. As her brain becomes supercharged, she quickly acquires incredible strength, vast intellectual capacity and amazing telekinetic powers. These allow her to turn the tables on her captors. The rapidly evolving Lucy then reaches out to academic Professor Norman (Morgan Freeman), who theorises that we use only 10% of our mental capacity. But what will happen to her when she reaches 100%? Luc Besson, writer/director of ‘Nikita’ and ‘The Fifth Element’, has created some of the screen’s most extraordinary female action heroes. With ‘Lucy’, he takes the genre to a new level.

INTO THE STORM An unprecedented barrage of tornadoes devastates an American town in this spectacular disaster movie. A perfect storm of extreme weather events ravages the town of Silverton. Tornado after tornado rips buildings asunder and terrifies the population. But storm trackers predict that the worst of these deadly cyclones is yet to come. The majority of townsfolk seek shelter wherever they can, battening down the hatches. But for professional storm chasers and amateur thrill-seekers alike, this unprecedented assault presents the opportunity of a lifetime. ‘Final Destination 5’ director Steven Quale takes us right into the heart of Mother Nature’s fury. His all-too-plausible disaster movie depicts this terrifying onslaught through the eyes and lenses of courageous townsfolk and reckless daredevils alike. The cast is led by British star Richard Armitage, who plays Thorin Oakenshield in Peter Jackson’s ‘Hobbit’ films, and Sarah Wayne Callies from TV’s ‘The Walking Dead’

Let’s Be Cops An outrageous comedy about two loser buddies who have fun posing as cops - until they encounter real mobsters! Best mates Ryan (Jake Johnson) and Justin (Damon Wayans Jr.) have managed to make it to the grand old age of 30 without achieving any of their ambitions. But all that’s about to change with their fateful decision to attend a fancy dress party dressed as cops. They soon find that people mistake them for the real thing! It’s not long before our lovable anti-heroes are using this to their advantage, gate-crashing wild parties and getting special attention from the ladies. They even buy a police car on eBay. Unfortunately, these fake cops soon find themselves on the wrong side of a bunch of very authentic ruthless mobsters. Jake Johnson and Damon Wayans Jr., stars of the hit US sitcom ‘New Girl’, reunite on the big screen for this hilariously raunchy buddy comedy with a difference!

verything old is new again. If you think that sounds like a great song title, then you’d be right – one such ditty by Peter Allen has been covered by numerous artists over the years. It’s also a great way to describe what is happening to Doctor Who, Saturday, BBC1, 7.50pm this weekend. The show itself is pretty old, having celebrated its 50th anniversary last November, but will be made new again by the arrival of Peter Capaldi as the Time Lord. Plus, the Doctor – a rather ancient 2,000 years of age, give or take a decade or two – will have new life breathed into him by an actor who has coveted the role since he was a boy.

Capaldi is a long-standing fan who wrote to the BBC as a child and even penned articles for fanzines in his youth, so the show should be in safe hands. Those who grew up watching the classic version of the programme will certainly have been heartened to hear that Capaldi has outlawed love in the Tardis, and has been keen to take the show back to basics. What’s more, he’s the only actor to have played the Doctor since the series returned who looks as if he could have been around during the time that Jon Pertwee or Tom Baker were saving the universe in adventures still rated among the best by long-time followers of all things Whovian.

This show was recorded at Norwich’s Theatre Royal and features comic tales, wry anecdotes, quick-witted interaction with the audience, improvisation, uncannily accurate impersonations and a selection of uplifting songs from the Would I Lie to You? host.

PICK OF THE WEEK

Rachelle Lefevre Under the Dome Channel 5, 10pm This compelling saga centres on the residents of Chester’s Mill, a small American town trapped under a mysterious force field. It doesn’t hurt that there is eye candy for both sexes, from shady exsoldier Barbie to flamehaired reporter Julia Shumway (Rachel LeFevre). Now, series two looks like it could be as compelling as the first; it picks up directly from where the first left off. Chester’s Mill is bathed in a blinding white light as the Dome starts to change. Barbie is awaiting execution on the scaffold after Big Jim (Dean Norris) accused him of murder.

Brendan O’Carroll Who Do You Think You Are? Catherine Tate Big School BBC1, 9.30pm New series. Return of the classroom comedy, starring David Walliams. When Miss Postern sets up a careers workshop, it seems her slogan ‘Which Way Now?’ applies as much to her as it does to the pupils, not least because the guest speaker is her old teacher-training colleague - and now bestselling children’s author Fenella Forbes (Morgana Robinson). Meanwhile, her relationship with Mr Church has taken a downward turn after a misunderstanding over a date. On the upside, the future is looking bright for one member of staff, as Mr Martin prepares to launch a pop career.

Doodling

and

the

Subconscious

When in daydream mode your brain is in the relaxed Alpha state, which allows your intuition to flow, and the subconscious mind to bring forward a serious of coded messages in the shape of doodles. We’ve all done this at one time or another and perhaps some of us more than others but we tend to disregard these as just something to pass the time when in fact, they have so much more valuable.

Dr. Robert Burns who was a former director of the institute of Human Development in Seattle used doodles to help diagnose the emotional state of his patients, he understood they were not just scribbles on a page but valuable messages from the deep subconscious mind. He considers the arm an extension of the brain indicating that, when you begin to doodle its not unlike the markings made by an ECG – it’s the same brain waves that are at work here producing subconscious images as indicators of what is going on in and around your life at a deeper level. The only difference is, the ECG looks at health where the doodle’s are patterns showing the deeper you.

Carl Jung

Both Carl Jung and Sigmund Fraud were co-founders of the language of symbolism and perhaps “doodleology” - they lead the way on the importance of symbols and images from the subconscious and what they revealed about the person.

Through research and studies it has been shown that both doodling and sketching are stimulators to creativity and that they help to generate ideas – that’s why mind maps are so powerful, they lead you to solutions and ways forward in a fun way, enabling the subconscious mind to provide you with images and intuitive ideas thus creating the Aha moments.

These solutions may have remained locked away in the confines of your mind had you not used something to remove the logical limitations that so often hold us back. Doodles are a wonderful tool for psychics to work with, as they are a focus for the mind allowing it to move into the necessary relaxed state for intuition to flow and tap into the information, providing the client with key pieces of knowledge about their life.

Some other Famous Doodlers include...

Winston Churchill

George Washington

The tree – connects with learning and knowledge and so, depending on the type of tree that’s been drawn, the fullness or leaves or the absence of them, this will tell a lot about the person – the same thing applies to those who want to study / learn, their tree will be full and lush as they are keen to know more.

Charles

Box – this indicates people who like things organized and in order – they are the logical processing thinkers who need structure in their lives and are out of their comfort zone if this is not the case. They can also place limitations on themselves when there is no need to do so.

Let’s have a look at some familiar doodles that are drawn and what they mean.

The circle - is common and means that you are an all rounded person who like things to run smooth in your life – your not one for confrontation but prefer harmony – a lover not a fighter. The circle shows someone who is an all rounder.

By Joan

Leonardo De Vinci

Mark Twain

Flowers – these people love to make the house a home, they are the home makers and are quite fluffy about life – they have a sensitive nature and it all depends on the type of flower they draw as to how intricate they can be so for instance, a simple daffodil will show someone of strength and who likes the simple things in life where as an Orchid would indicate someone who is sensitive, mystical and likes different things and variety. A house – this is a common doodle and it shows the persons home is their sanctuary and that they are traditional in their ways. A large house shows a pride in achievement where a small house would be about privacy and someone who doesn’t have the need of material things in their life. Squiggle lines - are about people who love change, crave variety and who get bored very easily. They are the ones who need to be creating and perhaps have artistic skills along with a quick mind for changing and adapting things that have been stale or stagnant. There are people who just doodle the same things and have done for years, those who just doodle what comes into their minds at that particular moment and then there are those who take up a whole page creating a masterpiece – the latter have a mind that is open to lots of things at the one time. They need to be noticed and gregarious in their manner – loving life and yet holding certain things to themselves so, what’s going on outside is not what’s happening on the inside. Famous doodlers; George Washington would draw geometric shapes – Winston Churchill did 3D boxes and

spirals – Leonardo De Vinci well, he had hundreds of doodles and sketches as you can imagine – Mark Twain was known to draw weather symbols. Send me your Doodles to analyse, to see what they say about you. Email them to: joan.charles@ btopenworld.com

Tarot Card of the Week

Sound & vibration are one of the oldest modalities of Holistic Healing known. Together they are referred to as Resonance, which is fundamental to all beings of the universe and could even be described as “The energy of Creation” Everything that we, as humans, know of anything is based on vibration. From the most infinitesimal part of an atom to the largest expanse of matter ever in the known, and yet to be discovered, universe, cannot exist, or indeed, come into being without movement, vibration, Resonance. All is Energy! Singing Bowls as instruments of Resonance Therapy work extremely well at all levels of being, a truly Holistic {treating the body as a whole} treatment.

Physically

The vibration of the bowls in direct contact with the body sends sound waves and impulses through tissue altering cellular structure. Everyday stresses and strains locked into muscle tissue can be relieved gently.

Mentally

The sounds generated allow the receptors of the brain to reconfigure their “firing sequence” bringing a balance (HemiSyncing) both stimulating and calming simultaneously allowing

harmonisation and the body to relax.

Energetically

The flow of ‘Chi’ or ‘Ki’ of your energy body is gently returned to balance, alignment and Harmony.

Spiritually

Developing a connection with Source (Awakening) is realised, improving awareness and expansion of being, out of body – Transcendental State. During a Resonance Therapy session, of any kind, with the singing bowls some or all of the above may be experienced, depending on the individual and energies involved at the time. All aspects of “Body” are affected, either directly or as a result of another energising or aligning. The bowls are Tibetan in origin, said to have been gifted to the Buddhist monks of the Bon Po style (an Ancient Shamanic form of Buddhism) from the heavenly gods. The metals in the bowls correspond to the known planets, Sun, Moon, Venus, Mercury, Mars, Saturn and Uranus. Each has a designated frequency, which in turn corresponds to a colour, musical note, element and so on. This creates a multidimensional energy matrix and as such allows the Singing Bowls to effortlessly merge with all types of healing modalities, Reiki, Crystals, all associated Angelic Realms, Spirituality and all aspects of Spirit

Tarot Course Whether you have ever wanted to learn the Tarot as a hobby or to use it seriously then, this Introductory course will allow you to do that. You will learn how the tarot deck is divided, the major, minor and court cards along with the spread and in a short space of time you will be using the cards to look at what the future holds for yourself and others.

The course runs over 10 weeks from 7-9pm and starts on the 28th of August and will be held in Greenock.

development. Also have been used as an aid in Hypnotherapy, Kinesiology and I teach use as a diagnostic tool in a general health framework. Originally, of course, they were and are used for meditation. If you are new to the meditation processes then I would say that it makes the learning so much easier, whether you participate in a group or singularly. If you have some experience in meditations, I’ve found that using, or being in the presence of somebody playing the Singing Bowls deeply enhances the experience, in which a variety of things may occur. You may experience an “out of body” sensation, similar to Transcendental Meditation (an altered state of consciousness) or Astral Journeying, maybe feel the energy affecting your Chakras (Major Energy Centres), Twinges and tingles throughout your body, physical signs of energy movement, visualisations of colours or simply relaxing in the Energetic Space that the Bowls create, allowing stillness of mind. Connecting with your guides is also an aspect of meditating with Singing Bowls. Through a guided visualisation you are invited to connect with various guides. Depending on your belief system, this can be an Elemental, Inner Child, A Familiar as an example. Anything’s Possible!

The tarot is an ancient and powerful divination tool that has been used for centuries, its hard to pin point exactly where it originated but what we do know is that the rich and famous have consulted it to assist them in their life. Using the tarot the reader taps into it’s hidden mysteries and symbolic connections to provide the client with what lie ahead and from there they make their own choices and decisions. Each week I will be taking a look at one card from the deck and explaining what it means.

This week I have chosen

The Hermit:

The Hermit is the ninth card in what’s called the Major arcane [there are22 cards in this section] it is linked with the star sign of Virgo and is all about reflection on the road you have travelled and where you are now. In life, this stage is important as we need to re-evaluate things before rushing into the next thing that comes along. When the hermit card shows up it’s about taking some quiet time to yourself and not thinking that this is a waste but instead seeing the real value in it – its like an investment in yourself which, is always a positive and with fresh eyes you can see what is real and what you need to let go of. The Hermit carries the lamp which is symbolic of lighting the path you walk on and by taking the time out that you need you feed the soul and nurture what is right for you.

Archangels

Seven Powerful

Joan Charles

I am delighted to be delivering your stars although; I won’t be doing them in the traditional way, as I am not an astrologer. For many years I have provided the stars using Tarot cards and that is what I will be doing here so, I guess in a sense they should be called, Taroscopes. Anyway, I do hope you enjoy what the cards have to say.

Aries

It feels like your deep in thought about the future and what it will bring but remember, your not one to lie down to much and so no matter what comes along you can more than deal with it.

Taurus

Your cards for the week ahead are indicating that you are focused and ready to meet any kind of challenge that shows up. The stubborn streak in you can come in handy when you need to stand your ground.

Gemini

I have a sense that you’ll be tripping the light fantastic over the weekend, getting out and about and just having fun. It seems it maybe time for letting your hair down and just enjoying life.

www.glasgow-news.com

There are an infinite number of awesome angels that are here to give us their unconditional love, healing, support and guidance. So if you find you are needing their help in any way remember to ask them and then the angels can get to work to help you in many miraculous ways. Here are just seven of the Archangels who are just waiting to help.

Cancer If someone has negative things to say then they should know

that they better be able to back it up otherwise, you will be hot on their trail to sort things out. You are quick to nip thing sin the bud that are out of context.

Leo

You’re a person who takes great pride in what you do and are your own worst critic and you become a little disappointed when others do not have the same standards as you. Just try and remember that we are not all the same and count to ten.

Virgo

There are times when you take a kind of mad notion to do things on the spur of the moment and throw caution to the wind. Its not often this happens as mainly you like your feet on the ground but, your entitled to a little fun too.

Libra It’s feeling like a bit of a mundane week in one way or another, which, you could struggle with, as the same old routine does not sit well with you. Your mind is way too active and needs constant stimulation to keep you busy.

Scorpio Keep an eye out for some subtle hints coming from a loved one

in connection with a wee break. Perhaps they are in need of some quality time out and think you have not noticed this and so, they are gently guiding you along.

Sagittarius

Work matters could occupy your thoughts this week and it feels like you need to work your way through certain things before you can sit back and take a breather. You’ll do this no problem in your normal efficient way.

Capricorn

Hiding your light under a bushel won’t get you where you want to be; you need to shout it from the rooftops in order to be noticed. I know you may feel you shouldn’t have to do this but needs must.

Aquarius If you find yourself doing a juggling act then its because you always have too much on your plate to begin with. Maybe spreading the load or dealing with things one at a time would work better for you.

Pisces

Official paperwork may demand your attention and the sooner it’s done and out of the way the better you will feel. I sense this is something of a formality but nevertheless, it requires your attention.

BEAUTY ambassador Review 2015

Fearne Cotton announced as

for Tesco Mum of the Year Awards

As a beauty writer, I’m always a fan of trying new things. However, when it comes to surgical aesthetics such as skin peels and chemical treatments, I have to admit I’m a bit of a big wimp. So when there is a product that claims to have the same effect, I’m always intrigued to see how they measure up. Meru Maya’s Skin Brightening Exfoliating Peel™ is a great example. The product claims to “restore a more youthful appearance and vital glow” for every skin type. Using a combination of Glycolic Acid and Pomegranate Enzymes, it says it will ensure that “drier skins absorb moisture treatments more effectively, troubled skins are clarified and clearer, every skin type is retexturised, brighter, smoother, clearer and more vibrant.” It claims to eliminate dead skins cells to reveal underlying radiant

skin, reduced pores and smoothes the skin. So, did it work? I tried it to find out!

The gel is to be applied to clean skin, so after cleansing, I applied the gel to my face making sure not to go near eyes or lips. The gel is thick and sticky, so it clings to the skin without sliding off. The instructions state to leave it on for between 3-10 minutes, depending on what you find bearable. I left it on for the full ten minutes. You can feel it stinging slightly, but not to the point that it’s uncomfortable. After the ten minutes were up, I washed it off. My skin felt clean and polished, and my nose and chin area felt tighter.

Out and About in Glasgow... Singin’ in the Rain! As Glaswegians, you would think we have seen enough rain in our lifetime, but for once it put a smile on my face as I went along to Singin’ in the Rain. Settling into our seats at the newly revamped Theatre Royal Glasgow, as I looked around it was interesting to see a variety of age groups. For some this would be an education as the first time they learn the story and for others a trip down memory lane after memories of watching the famous movie. The star studded show features James Leece as Don Lockwood and Amy Ellen Richardson as Kathy Selden. In my opinion the stars of the show were, Vicky Binns who played Lina Lamont and Stephane Anelli as Cosmo Brown. Straight from the West End, Singin’ in the Rain tells the story of the

Overall, this is a great product, left my skin feeling smooth and much brighter. I would definitely recommend it if you want to peel away dead skin cells without chemical procedures.

first Hollywood musical, when sound was introduced and silent movies became a thing of the past. With songs including Good Morning, Make ‘em Laugh, Moses Supposes and the classic Singin’ in the Rain, additionally the energetic choreographed routines enhanced the production. One thing that did let me down though, as a timeless love story, it seemed to lack emotion for me. However, it could just be me comparing it to the original, which is impossible to beat. How could you get better than Donald O’Connor, Debbie Reynolds and Gene Kelly? It was a good effort though, but with the actors being from a completely different generation than the 1950’s, it would be impossible to relate to the original stars and recreate that. The 12,000 litres of water falling

was also another highlight, the stars were splashing and kicking the water into the front row of the audience, which was entertaining. You could tell some audience members came prepared when they pulled out their umbrellas! As for the theatre, it looked great after being revamped. The facilities are much better, with the extra bars which cut queuing time and the staff were lovely, truly couldn’t have been nicer. Overall, the story was delivered well. The finale was absolutely outstanding and I wasn’t the only one who thought so as the audience were all singing along. It was very enjoyable and I would definitely go back... this time with an umbrella! By

Banish Holiday Blues with Berries! A study of 2,000 British workers, conducted by British Summer Fruits, found that it takes an average of four days to reach their usual level of productivity after returning to work, with one in 10 admitting that it can take them a staggering 10 days to get back into work mode. Top signs include: 1. You can’t stay focused on one thing for more than five minutes We’ve all been there – your colleagues have

thankfully saved up a hundred tasks for you to do when you get back, but you can’t seem to finish a single one. 2. You’ve got chocolate on the brain Perhaps because the pool-wear panic is behind them, a third of people fall into the junk food trap when feeling low – but people fail to realise that nutrients found within fruits like berries boost blood flow to the brain, a key factor which can increase productivity.

3. You keep checking Facebook just in case you’ve got a new notification 15% of workers spend more time on social media when they get back from holiday – not that those friends’ holiday snaps will help pull them out of the slump. 4. Coffee doesn’t seem to contain caffeine anymore A lack of energy is one of the worst side effects of the post-holiday blues, with 2 in 5 people complaining of feeling

sluggish, finding work more slowly.

they

5. You just can’t face putting your socks on in the morning A fifth of workers dread having to return to putting socks on in the morning, and other irritations include the sound of the alarm clock, the never-ending, attentionseeking email inbox, and the jam-packed, sweaty commute. Leading nutritionist Dora Walsh said: “New research conducted this year found that berries

can support brain function by helping to prevent mental decline, so berries can be the booster you need when the day is dragging on. “Berries are high in resveratrol polyphenols which keep our blood flowing to the brain – essential when trying to catch up on a week’s work and battle the dreaded email inbox. Good blood flow increases alertness which can improve cognition and brain function.”

Does this sound like you? Here are Dora Walsh’s tips to keep your brain active at work: Have at least 20 minutes of sun a day to boost your serotonin levels Take regular breaks to ensure productivity Practice deep breathing to oxygenate your brain and boost alertness Snack on healthy foods including berries and nuts Stay hydrated or your performance could decrease

Meet Porter the ten month old Beardie Cross. Porter is also the first dog in the world to drive a car. Yes, Porter the canine successfully drove a specially modified mini round a track in New Zealand.

Spending eight weeks taking driving lessons, the dogs began by learning to steer a wooden cart pulled along on a string. After the eight weeks the leading two dogs, Porter and Monty were challenged to a race around the track, led by their trainers, they both became Guinness World Record holders.

With August being National Road Victim Month, here are our top tips on staying safe while crossing the road! Stop, look, listen It is so important to look carefully left and right before crossing the road. Look, left, right and left again. When cars are driving around houses they will be going a bit slower, which means their engines will be quieter making it harder to hear them. Walk, don’t run! When it is safe to cross, walk briskly across the road, don’t run. If you run it is easier to fall over. Don’t chase the ball! Playing football and you kick the ball onto the road? The sadness behind Robin’s Valley of Smiles

Robin Williams was a unique and brilliant human being, but tragically was haunted by depression throughout his entire adult life, some might say his craving to make people laugh was similar to an addiction, a way to mask the darkness through momentary glimpses of light.

Before his tragic death Robin decided that he needed to re-evaluate his finances and put his $30 million dollar, 650 acre estate up for sale.

The Oscar winning actor, who had a string of hits from the 70’s with Mork and Mindy right through to the billion plus dollar grossing Night at the Museum movies.

“The Ranch” as Williams called it was as grandiose as you would expect from one of the biggest Hollywood stars of his generation. It features a 20,000 foot five bedroom, a four bedroom

The man known for his fun loving, insane, portrayal, of a genie in Disney’s Aladdin admitted that he could no longer afford to keep up the running costs of the enormous mansion and its surrounding area’s in Napa Valley.

guest house, it was hideaway from the pressures of living in Hollywood. Initially putting the property on the market for $35 million dollars, he reduced it to $29.9 million after struggling to find any buyers for the majestic property. Although the property seems the average Hollywood mansion, it does indeed have touches that only a troubled genius would consider, an extensive art collection, an equally as extensive built in book case, with works ranging from work by Hunter S Thompson through to Salmon Rushdie.

The adjoining grounds outside the property also allowed Williams the ability to show off his playful side, with lifesize retro plastic cowboy and Indian action figures. To top it off the gardens also have a 65 foot long infinity pool, horse barn, tennis court, ponds, grape trees to make wine and olive trees both making gallons of each every year. It wasn’t his battle to stay sober that forced him to sell but the battle to stay financially solvent. Williams has never hidden his pain at losing a huge amount of his fortune to ex wives and told a

magazine earlier in the year “There are bills to pay. My life has downsized, in a good way. I’m selling the ranch up in Napa. I just can’t afford, I just can’t afford it anymore. “ Divorce is expensive. I used to joke they were going to call it “all the money” but they changed it to “alimony.” It’s ripping your heart out through your wallet. Are things good with my exes? Yes But do I need that lifestyle? No” By

Coronary heart disease kills over 900 people in Glasgow every year. Thousands more people are living with it. That’s why we’re leading the fight against heart disease here. We’ve invested £3 million in a Centre of Research Excellence at the University of Glasgow where scientists will identify new tests and treatments to prevent and cure heart disease. We’ve provided 100 defibrillators and we’re investing £100,000 to help young people choose healthier lifestyles so they can avoid heart disease. But we need help to fund this vital work. That’s why we rely on people like Rose who has done collections and raffles, held red-themed dinner parties, taken part in our Ramp up the Red fundraising in February, collected shops donations and done a sponsored swim. She says: “I get a real buzz out of organising events and bringing people together. It’s important to me to raise awareness of BHF Scotland and to help people become more aware of their own heart health.” You can get involved in many ways to help us to continue the fight for every heartbeat in Glasgow. Driver caught at 139mph on 60mph Scottish road

www.glasgow-news.com

Government crackdown on twelve point drivers The Government is launching a campaign to put a halt to inconsiderate drivers who have racked up penalty points without losing their license.

A motorist was caught speeding at more than double the limit on a Scottish A road – reaching a speed of 139 mph. The incident headed the list of the top twenty driving offences in Scotland, as revealed by the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM). The figures were released to the IAM by Police Scotland after a freedom of information request by the road safety charity. The offences took place between 1 April 2013 and 30 June 2014. The highest speed was captured by a mobile speed camera on the A96 between Keith and Huntly. Of the top twenty, only one took place on a motorway, with the rest being caught on A roads, a worrying trend for the safety of user road users

and pedestrians which is particularly poignant during August which is National Road Victim month. IAM Chief executive, Simon Best said: “These speeds show there are still drivers out there displaying a contempt for the law and for the safety of their fellow road users. “This is made doubly worse by the fact the vast majority of the incidents took place on A roads, therefore putting oncoming motorists, motorcyclists, cyclists and pedestrians at greater risk.” In May the IAM announced that there had been a motorist caught speeding at 149 mph on the M25 at Swanley between April 2013 and May 2014, after a similar request for information to police forces in England and Wales. Possible loophole for speeding motorists

Speeding drivers who lose their license or receive penalty points, could be handed a reprieve if they can prove that the street-lights on which the road they were driving on, were not turned on. Anthony Hook, a top motoring lawyer said that as part time street-lights becoming more and more common due to councils looking at ways to save money as well as reducing light pollution, blanket 30mile an hour restrictions, could become null and void. Currently the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 states. “A road is restricted to 30mph if there is provided on it a system of street lights not more than 200 yards apart.” However the underlying problem with that is that speeding laws are bypassed

in the dead of night if the lights are turned off. Mr Hook said “The courts have ruled that speed limits may not apply if street lights are broken, too far apart or illuminate the pavement instead of the road.” Two thirds of councils are now practising the money saving method but it has led to fears of an increase in accidents or crime on darkened roads. Earlier this year research revealed that 324 more people were killed or seriously injured in crashes on roads in which the street lights had been turned off compared to the previous year when the lights were still switched on. Some drivers are collecting points like a sticker collection and one driver has amassed a shocking 45 points. Three points of an increase and the unnamed driver would have gathered enough to be four times over the disqualification limit. Drivers regularly escape a lengthy ban due to courts having the power to allow a driver to keep their license if it will cause the driver or his family “exceptional hardship”. There are certain other underlying circumstances that could see a driver who repeatedly flaunted speeding points avoiding ban. One of the circumstances being, the archaic computer system that the DVLA use to record the data needed to prosecute drivers is struggling to cope with the amount of drivers being caught.

The Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin is now introducing a “hardship marker” the intention of which is to identify repeat offenders, and drivers who have pleaded “exceptional hardship” before.

The information required of the DVLA is then unable to reach the courts in time and drivers inevitably

caught using a mobile phone he said, “the amounts of casualties there have been are absolutely appalling and the person who is using their phone doesn’t realise the damage or the danger. “increasing the penalty to six points is an interesting suggestion, it is one I would look at, however there could be some difficulties about it, but I think we have got to get the message across to people about safety.”

Over 150 drink driver vehicles seized Over 150 drink drivers in Scotland have had their vehicles seized for offences between April 2013 and March 2014.

The action was taken against repeat offenders, drivers who refused to give a breath sample and first offenders who had a particularly high alcohol reading. There was some benefit to the public with any cars of value being sold at auction and other being scrapped, with the proceeds going into public funds. Lord Advocate Frank Mulholland QC

said: Drivers whose selfish actions result in the deaths of others when they drive under the influence of drink or durgs being misery and devestation to families and loves ones throughout our communities. “My message is very clear. You will be caught and when you are, you will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. “Not only could you lose your vehicle but you will receive a minimum 20year criminal record.” By

Although the Mustang is set for release in the US in the autumn it will have a complete launch in more than 120 countries worldwide in 2015.

Ford has sold 9.2 million Mustangs in the US since 1964, compared to a surprising 161,000 outside of North America in the same time period.

strong US market. The Ford Mustang was recently showcased in Britain at the 2014 Silverstone Classic, in the parade of 160 car, as of this present minute Ford have yet to reveal prices of the right hand drive Mustang. However the company began to take pre orders way back in May during the Champions League Final. Of the 500 allocated, 130 for UK consumers, every car was reserved in less than a minute.

The third generation of the car sees them taking a more conventional size, with a 30mm lower roofline and 90mm wider than the older model. The company is hoping the new, sportier design will appeal to younger car buyers and has involved its Motorsport department in the design process. The car will also be considerably more efficient than its predecessors, with Skoda claiming a reduction in fuel consumption of up to 17%, depending on the engine. Largely in part to a massive weight reduction, with it as much as 65kg than the outgoing model.

The car will come with four petrol and three diesel engine options. There will be a low-emission version of the car also launched, though not until later in 2015. The car will have a 74bhp diesel engine, start-stop system, kinetic energy recuperation and tyres with a low rolling resistance. Skoda have said this will allow the car to achieve fuel consumption of 76mpg and carbon dioxide emissions of 82g/km. The car will be launched at the Paris motor show in October, after production begins at the end of August. By

Ton-up Boys Strengthen Links to Club Game Some 101 professional players from Edinburgh Rugby, Glasgow Warriors and Scotland 7s have been drafted to the clubs in the BT Premiership for the new league campaign.

AGAINST ALL ODDS Now that the first weekend is out of the way and we’re all starting to realise maybe it wasn’t all Moyes’ fault, we’re armed with slightly more knowledge to make our picks for this week, not loads of knowledge mind you, but slightly more. Newcastle started with a defeat, Aston Villa with a victory, so of course i’m going with Newcastle to take 3 points from Villa Park at 9/5. Aston Villa were very much the Jekyll and Hyde of the Premier League last season and I expect that to continue this year, while Newcastle with and unlimited supply of Frenchmen at their disposal looked impressive despite their opening day defeat to Man City.

All ten Premiership clubs participated in the draft, with six of the clubs aligned to Edinburgh Rugby and four to Glasgow Warriors, Currie opting to bracket themselves with Glasgow through the Premiership Forum to enable a more equitable split of players. Scotland 7s players are also aligned to the pro-clubs. Elite Development players are not part of the draft, while first year professionals are automatically linked to the club from which they were signed.

Losing every starting player, their manager, I believe their tea lady and mascot this summer in a mass exodous had people doubting Southampton’s chances of another strong campaign but some good acqusitions including Fraser ‘The Great Wall’ Forster means they’ll have too much for West Brom at home, not the most exciting odds but Southhampton win at 5/6 should at least be going on your accumulator.

Boroughmuir, promoted to the BT Premiership, had first pick of the Edinburgh players, with Stirling County, lowest placed last season of the Glasgow aligned clubs, having first choice of the Glasgow squad.

On Sunday, all I can see is goals, goals, goals. Win back that money you spent on Saturday night getting that hangover by backing Both Teams to Score in all three fixtures at just under 5/1.

Stephen Gemmell, Scottish Rugby’s Acting Head of Academy, said: “The pro-player draft is an important part of our joint determination to close the gap between the top end of the club game and professional rugby.

On Monday The U.S. Open starts at Flushing Meadows in New York. We’d love to be patriotic and back Andy Murray but we love winning money more, so sorry Andy, not this year. Novak Djokovic is the World number 1 for a reason and the Serb is so difficult to beat in the Grand Slams, take him at 11/10 to take home the trophy.

“For the players it means that when they are not involved in a match-day squad for their pro-club or Scotland 7s, then they can get game time and contribute to the well-being of their allocated club.

“For the clubs there’s a great opportunity to work with the professional players so that everyone can benefit.” Peter Laverie, Premiership representative on the Scottish Rugby Council, added: “A strong and growing connection between the Premiership clubs and the professional game is central to continuing to improve the standard of our game. “The BT Premiership is an exciting competition and we’ll see some innovation this year, too, with knockout matches to determine the eventual champions.”

2014-15 PRO-PLAYER DRAFT Edinburgh Rugby aligned clubs Boroughmuir – Carl Bezuidenhout, Simon Berghan, Sam Beard, Neil Cochrane, Tom Brown, Stuart McInally, Nick McLennan, Andrew Turnbull, Matt Scott and Tim Visser Edinburgh Accies – Alex Allan, Alex Toolis, Chris Dean, Jamie Farndale, Roddy Grant, Mark Robertson, Michael Fedo, Phil Burleigh, Ben Atiga and Cornell Du Preez Hawick – Joaquin Dominguez, Ollie Atkins, Tomas Leonardi, Allan Dell, Tom Heathcote, Michael Tait, John Andress, Jack Cuthbert, Mike Coman and Grant Gilchrist Heriot’s – George Turner, Ben Toolis, Jamie Ritchie, Hamish Watson, Struan Dewar, James Fleming, Alasdair

Lee’sy does it as Jones agrees new one year deal with Warriors Scotland international winger Lee Jones will be available to play for the Warriors next season after agreeing a new oneyear deal with the club. As part of the agreement the 26-yearold will also be available to play for Scotland 7s. Jones, who joined on loan from Edinburgh Rugby in February, has four caps for Scotland and played 57 times for Edinburgh.

The Scotland international has made six appearances for the club and scored a

crucial try against Cardiff Blues at the BT Sport Arms Park last season. The Warriors preparations for the new season continue this weekend when they play Harlequins at Scotstoun on Saturday, ahead of a trip to face London Scottish in Richmond the following weekend. Lee Jones said: “Playing for Glasgow Warriors and Scotland 7s is the best of both worlds for me. “I’ve enjoyed life at Glasgow and managed to get a few games last season which was really enjoyable. “It’s a club on the up and seeing

the level of support in Dublin at the PRO12 Final showed that. “I’m looking forward to hopefully being involved against Harlequins this weekend and then London Scottish next week. I want to challenge for a starting place at Glasgow.” Glasgow Warriors head coach Gregor Townsend said: “It’s great news for the club that Lee will be available to train and play with us next season, while also continuing his involvement with Scotland 7s. “He has really impressed since joining the club last season and this is a great

opportunity for him to challenge our other wingers for a regular starting place.”

Scotland 7s head coach Calum MacRae added: “Lee made a tremendous contribution to Scotland 7s throughout the past season and was prolific at the Commonwealth Games, scoring seven tries.

He has genuine match winning qualities.

“He works very hard on his game and I believe Scotland 7s can benefit from the tie-up with Glasgow Warriors as I’m sure he will thrive under the guidance of Gregor (Townsend) and the Warriors coaching staff.”

GAME, ‘SET & MATCH

Celtic’s Boerrigter given two match ban for diving

SOMERSET ran out convincing winners at Glasgow today as the Tigers struggled to overcome the absence of their captain. Theo Pijper was missing for the Ashfield side as he was on long track duty - and that was one of a few factors which went against the Tigers in a contest which still produced plenty of thrilling racing. The home side actually took the first spoils with a 4-2 in heat one, and with Glasgow getting their second heat win the following race to make it 7-5, it looked as though the Tigers could prove potential spoilers to the visitors’ hopes of returning to the Premier League summit. But the Rebels’ 5-1 in heat three, courtesy of the brilliant Brady Kurtz and his partner Pontus Aspgren, sent them in front and that was where they remained for the rest of the meeting. Glasgow did come back into the contest when new boy Victor Palovaara was joined by Rusty Harrison for a 5-1 in heat 10. Harrison and Kasper Lykke were then involved in the race of the day in heat 11 with former Tigers Charles Wright and Nick Morris - all four riders passing and re-passing for four laps. Morris ended the winner, though, and the Rebels headed home the remaining four heats to win 51-41 and leave Glasgow boss Stewart Dickson a frustrated man. He said: “I played about with my programme before the match and I picked four riders that would need to score double figures - that was my plan. “I knew it was going to be tough but it just shows you how easy to ride our track is. Look at Brady Kurtz - he finished four races and he won three of them and was flying in three of them - yet he couldn’t ride Edinburgh’s

Armadale. He scored one point there on Friday night. “It was a bit flat and we were weak there was no doubt about it. We were missing Theo, who has arguably been our best rider at home along with Rusty in the last month or so. “But I hate to lose - that’s just it.” The Tigers’ charge was led by Kevin Wolbert who proved good value for his six rides, racking up 14 points. Harrison had five second places and a third to score 11 from his six races. However, the home side were also weakened by the absence of French teenager Dimitri Berge - who could miss the rest of the season after breaking his wrist in a long track accident during the week. It is the 18-year-old’s second major injury of the year having only returned to the track at the end of July following a three-month spell on the sidelines. The Tigers’ cause was also dented by an off-form Anders Thomsen, who struggled to two points and appeared down on power having suffered engine troubles while racing at Berwick on Saturday night. Tigers scorers: Kevin Wolbert 14, Rusty Harrison 11, Kasper Lykke 7, Victor Palovaara 4, Alex Edberg (guest) 3, Anders Thomsen 2.

Celtic’s Dutch winger Derk Boerrigter has accepted a two match suspension for a dive that won his side a penalty in the 3-0 win over St Johnstone. Boerrigter appeared to go down belatedly after slight contact with Saint’s captain Dave Mackay, who

was also sent off for what referee John Beaton had deemed a foul denying a clear goalscoring opportunity. Nir Biton scored the resulting penalty to give Celtic a two goal advantage in the match. The Scottish F.A. deemed the dutchman to have breached Rule 201

Deila us in, Celtic battle for draw in Slovenia 22nd August - 29th August 2014 | Issue 84 | Published by West of Scotland Media

Ronny Deila’s Celtic have redeemed a little self respect, and also left themselves with an excellent chance of reaching the Champions League Group stages after securing an invaluable 1-1 draw in Slovenia.

Celtic will be considered favourites after Callum McGregor scored a priceless away goal, McGregor has now scored in three successive away European games. Tony Watt, now plying his trade in Belgium, must grit his teeth watching

someone else make the headlines for Celtic in Europe.

McGregor, who spent last season on loan at Notts County, has grabbed his opportunity and is happy making headlines on the back page instead of Watt’s habit of making headlines on the front page. Celtic could consider themselves unfortunate not to have taken a lead to Celtic Park next Tuesday. In the first half, Stefan Johansen inadvertently clearing Virgil Van Dijk’s goal bound header off the line...with his face. To the bemusement of his team-mates.

Maribor however had several chances of their own, and comeback keeper Craig Gordon saving a few decent efforts on goal.

Both Celtic and Maribor had penalty appeals waved away however the second half failed to have the same bite and excitement as the first. Both teams nearing the end appearing to settle for 1-1. Deila in the later stages of the second half brought on Efe Ambrose, and almost immediately gave the ball away deep in his own half, Deila and John Collins must age rapidly any

time the Nigerian defender spends too much time on the ball. In the closing minutes Gordon had to make a timely save, to ensure that Celtic would take a priceless draw back to Celtic Park next Tuesday. Maribor could fancy their chances but with Celtic Park rocking to the sound of 60,000 people and Kris Commons back in the midfield, Celtic are most definitely favourites to progress. Celtic boss Ronny Deila seemed happy with the result he said “We were well prepared and the players

were fantastic. “We looked like a team, worked hard together and created chances. It’s a good result but we could have won it.” The away goal is vital, 1-1 is a much better result than 0-0.” said the Celtic manager Deila also joked about his fellow countryman Johansen’s goal line clearance for Maribor he jested. “It was a fantastic save, he(Johansen) was Maribor’s best defender.” By
