Thierry Boutsen’s Formula 1 race driving career was pretty spectacular, but in comparison, the rise of his Monaco-based business aircraft sales and acquisitions company has been meteoric. The company was founded in 1997 and the secret of its success, says Boutsen, is attention to detail. “Buying and selling corporate aircraft is our business. It is a very detailed business and requires a very good understanding of the market conditions, aircraft availability, associated costs, maintenance expectations and all the documentation required to pass title from one entity to another.”

In 2014, HSH Prince Albert II awarded Boutsen Aviation with the honourable title “By Appointment to His Serene Highness the Sovereign Prince of Monaco.” The Monacobased aircraft broker has sold aircraft for both HSH Rainier III and HSH Albert II of Monaco.

When Thierry Boutsen and his wife Daniela created Boutsen Aviation with a vision to position themselves in the pre-owned business jet sales market, the couple could hardly have imagined that within a few years they would be moving the world of business aviation forward. Their success is impressive, with over 300 corporate jets and turbine helicopters sold to date, they have become one of the leading European companies in their field. In November 2011, Berlin-born Daniela Boutsen laid the foundation for a new business that certainly had a revolutionary ring to it when she created Boutsen Design. Born from her long-matured passion for the ‘Arts de la Table’, it is a prestigious addition to Boutsen Aviation’s range of activities.

It was the same places and the same subjects after 23 years in that business it was time to move on to a new challenge.”

However, asked whether he was still getting a kick out of his aviation business- he enthused - “I’m enjoying it as much as anything I’ve done in my life in the past. Each aircraft sold gives me the same pleasure as winning a Formula 1 race. Monaco is a wonderful place to live in and I think it’s a great place to bring up the children.” With a twinkle in his eye, Boutsen adds, “I’ll never retire, but I might just slow down a little when I’m older!
