A beautiful grass runway is about 600 meters x 20 metres wide with good safety margins and clear approaches was built. Followed by a couple of lakes and some houses. All we needed was some like-minded pilots and sailors to come and join us and have some fun. The air is pure, no noise pollution, the sky at night is really something else, it is almost frightening, bringing a telescope is a must. Some bird-watcher friends found 55 varieties of birds inside the farm. There are all sorts of animals, not to mention our 4 Dalmatians, 3 cats, Molly and her 7 sheep friends that eat from our hands, as well as ducks and geese.

Leonardo da Costa Sayago came to the UK in the mid-1960’s to study Naval Architecture at Sunderland University. He specialised in Yacht Design working first for Campers & Nicholson, then Angus Primorose, then setting up his own Design Office. Many thousands of Yachts and Powerboats being built to his designs, such as the Sailfish 18,OS 19,Sandpiper 565,Miss Enfield ,Crusader ,Sealord 15 & 25 ,Caravela 22 & 25 , in fact too many to mention. From his Headquarters in Hamble he distributed yachts such as Beneteau, Feeling, GibSea, Sweden Yachts, Nauticat. He became a pilot in 1981 and also became involved with the marketing of Robin, Mooney and Maule aircraft. In 1993 he retired to his home country, Portugal and managed to stay retired for a whole 2 weeks. Retirement was really not for him, so he started to look for a farm to create his old dreams of starting both a Pilots’ Village and an Aviation company to import some super small planes from Central Europe such as the Eurostar ,SportCruiser and the Eurofox. Right in the center of Portugal he found a 75 acres farm in an area of outstanding natural beauty, next to a big lake complete with private beaches of fine sand and water temperatures of about 25 + centigrade. The lake is about 25 kms long by 2 kms wide. Good, steady winds of about 10knots, perfect for flying, sailing, water-skiing, fishing, balooning, bird watching etc., etc.
We are 30 minutes flying time from Lisbon and Badajoz, 45 minutes from the Algarve, 1 hour from the snow skiing peaks of our big mountain Estrela in the Winter. From the UK we are 2 hours flying time at ridiculously cheap rates, making it feasible to come for just a week end. All are welcome to visit and discuss with us your requirements and I am sure you will not only enjoy your trip and may even want to share our "Little Paradise" here in Sunny Portugal.
