up to 65 million unbanked adults save semiformally, including 35 million women. Moving semiformal saving into accounts could reduce the number of unbanked adults by up to 23 percent in Nigeria and by up to 32 percent in Ethiopia (figure 6.9). Semiformal savings methods are also widely used in some economies outside SubSaharan Africa—including by almost a fifth of unbanked adults in Pakistan and nearly a quarter of those in Indonesia.
