In 2012, comparable countries had ratios of exports and imports to GDP of 31.6 and 29.4 percent (Indonesia), 78 and 75 percent (Thailand), and 89.8 and 90.2 percent (Vietnam), respectively. 3. The TIR (Transports Internationaux Routiers) is a system of bonds, operated in nearly 70 countries, that guarantees that any customs and other duties will be paid on goods transported in transit trucks. Its objectives are the improvement of transport conditions and the simplification and harmonization of administrative formalities in international transport, particularly at frontiers.
