The city of Abuja is growing rapidly (see Figure 3.6), and its spatial growth is likely to follow a starfish-like pattern, with roads as one of the facilitators of further urbanization. This growth pattern has two important characteristics for water management: it is difficult to predict as it will depend on such factors as road construction, and it will cause a centralized, piped network to become very long.
