EXERCISE 14.4

Adding Test Results for a PPS Design The process of adding test results for a PPS design is similar to adding test results for the SRS400 students. However, in this instance the sampling sequences are important: schools were sampled first, then classes, and finally students. This structure influences how files are sorted and merged. This exercise corresponds to the data capture activities of a real-life national assessment. To begin, you have to open the full response file containing the data on all 27,654 grade 8 students. These responses will then be matched to the (sampled) students of the sampled classes and the matching records will be retained. 1. Read and sort the RESPONSES file as follows: File – Open – Data – Look in ...\BASE FILES\RESPONSES.SAV Open Select Data – Sort cases and move SCHOOLID CLASSID to Sort by. Click OK. 2. Read and sort the file containing the sample of 120 classes as follows: File – Open – Data – Look in …\MYSAMPLSOL\CLASS_SAMPLE.SAV Open
