THE WORLD BANK INSTITUTIONS The core business of the World Bank is overcoming poverty and boosting economic growth in developing countries. The International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) lends to governments of middle-income and creditworthy low-income countries. This affiliate promotes sustainable development through loans, guarantees, risk-management products, and nonlending analytical and advisory services. IBRD’s financial strength enables it to borrow in capital markets at low cost and to offer clients favorable borrowing terms.
