Unliketraditionalengagementsurveys,the WorkplaceInnovationDiagnostic®providesindepthunderstandingofwherechangeisneeded toenhancebusinessperformance,innovation, andemployeeengagementandwellbeing.The focusisonworkplacepracticesthatenable peopleateveryleveltouseanddeveloptheir fullrangeofskills,knowledge,experienceand creativity,leadingtowin-winoutcomesforthe organisationanditsemployees.Itcanbeused acrossthewholecompany,atdepartmentor divisionlevel,orinindividualteamsof10or morepeople

3.1Whoshouldbeincludedinthe Diagnostic?

Points to consider when selecting the target groupfortheDiagnosticsurveyinclude:

Whether to focus on the organisation as a whole and, or an individual branch, site or department.

Whether to target areas of the business alreadyidentifiedasprioritiesforchange Whethertoincludeacontrolgroup,against whichoutcomesofsubsequentchangecan bemeasured.

3.2Howdoyouwanttoanalyseand reporttheresults?

Allreportsdifferentiatebetweensenior managersandemployees,andwecanbreak downthesurveyresultsfurtherby‘Selection Criteria’pre-definedbyyou.Thesemightinclude, forexample:

Organisationaldivisionssuchasteams, departmentsorbranches.

Professionaloroccupationalgroups. Employmentstatus(forexampletemporary/ permanentworkers)

Demographicvariablesincludinggender,age, ethnicity,lengthoftimewithcompanyand maximumeducationattainments Seniority(professionalormanagement grades).

Youwillthenneedtoidentifytherelevant ‘Categories’foreachSelectionCriterion,for examplethenamesofthedifferentdepartments withinwhichemployeescompletingthesurvey work

Toensureprivacy,wecannotreportresultswere lessthanfiveresponseshavebeenreceivedfrom agroup

Werecommendthatyoufullylistthewaysin whichyouwishthedatatobebrokendown beforecreatingtheDataInputSpreadsheet(Step 3below).Variablescannotbeaddedorchanged afterthesurveyhascommenced.

Beforelaunchingthesurvey,itisstronglyadvised thataseniorleaderinyourorganisationsendsa communicationtothosetakingpart,explaining thebackgroundtotheDiagnosticandthe organisation’sreasonsforundertakingit This willimprovetheparticipationrate,andasample letterthatyoucanuseinpreparingyourown communicationwillbeprovided

TheDiagnosticwillnormallyremainopenfor 2-3weeks;werecommendthatremindersare sentoneweekafterthelaunchofthesurveyto promptanyonewhohasnotyetcompletedit

Datafromthereportwillbetranslatedintoan ActionPlantemplate.TheActionPlandisplays theDiagnosticresults,themedworkpractices andinterdependenciestosupporteffective actionplanning ItiscreatedasaGoogledocsfile andcanbesharedandeditedonlinebymultiple users,includingexpertsupportfrommembersof ourteam,inrealtimeorotherwise,wherethisis partofyourDiagnosticpackage YourDiagnostic packagemayalsoincludeanin-houseworkshop tohelpwithinterpretationofsurveyresults andtoidentifyactionplanprioritiesforyour organisation.

3.8RepeatingtheDiagnostic

WerecommendthattheDiagnosticberepeated atoneormoreintervalsduringthechange process,bothasmeansofcapturing(and celebrating!)progress,andtorefocusactionson remainingpriorities Aminimumofsixmonths shouldbeconsideredbeforetheDiagnosticis repeatedtoavoid‘surveyfatigue’.
