Adventures in a Winter Wonderland There are numerous of exciting recreational activities available only during the frosty season, so make the most out of your winter here in Missoula.

Try these great activities you can only do in the winter! Renting a pair of ice skates ($4) at the Glacier Ice Rink would be a fun, cheap date ($6/adult). Plan to go on “Bargain Monday”, where admission is only $2! You can check out the public skate schedule at www.glaciericerink.com. Don’t forsake Mother Nature! Cross-country skiing and snowshoeing are relatively cheap activities explore the great outdoors and get your heart rate up. The University of Montana Campus Recreation Outdoor Program rents a cross country skiing package for only $12 for students. Websites like wintermt.com offer some original locations and trails to explore. Enjoy exploring Chief Joseph, National Parks, and surprising locations like ghost towns. The Garnet Ghost Town (roughly 30 mi. east of Missoula) was abandoned in 1889, and the Bureau of Land Management allows snowmobiliers and cross country skiers to explore the grounds. Or, you can join the racing atmosphere by racing in the Runner’s Edge 5K races. These themed races are a blast and competitors range from serious goggles to silly costumes. Sign up at the Runner’s Edge for either Light the Way 5K (registration $25-$35) on December 20th, or Freezer Burn 5K (registration fee $35-$50) on February 1, 2014. Hot Coco, roasting by the fire, wear fuzzy socks/slippers, baking cookies, sipping egg nogg, snowflakes, singing, sleigh rides, making snowmen, admiring holiday lights, reading a good book, making cut-out snowflakes, knitting or crocheting, online shopping, bubble baths, jigsaw puzzles

I Dare You...

1. Make as many minature snowmen as you can this winter. Everywhere you go! 2. Promote random acts of kindness by shoveling off a friend’s or stranger’s driveway. If you get lots of friends to participate, this is called a “Rake N’ Run”, or in this case, “Shovel N’ Scram”. 3. Test your courage by jumping in an icy pool of water. Particpate in a “Polar Plunge” or other kind of charity event. 4. Learn a new craft or try a new sport!
