The City Centre Retail and Leisure Core This is a large area of important change for the City, comprising opportunities for significant new leisure and retail development. The Westside Scheme, which is a major mixed use leisure development to be delivered by Urban and Civic, is due to commence shortly. This will complement the ongoing improvement and expansion of the Mander Shopping Centre by its owners Benson Elliot, which also includes the opening of a new Debenhams department store in autumn 2017.

The Royal and St George’s A number of prominent residential schemes will be brought forward in this area on land under the control of the Council and the Homes and Communities Agency. Along with Canalside South, these sites on the eastern edges of the city centre will help to create an attractive residential quarter.

Molineux Quarter The vision for the Molineux Quarter, with the Chinese conglomerate Fosun International (the new owners of Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club), the Council and the University of Wolverhampton working closely together, is to bring forward new development opportunities and radically transform the public realm. The ambition is to realise a unique opportunity to knit the Football Club and University fully into the fabric of the City Centre.

CIVIC HALL

Springfield Campus The Springfield Campus will accommodate the next phases of the University of Wolverhampton’s major expansion plans. The site will be home to the School of Architecture and the Built Environment, which will be a centre of excellence for the built environment, construction and high value manufacturing. The West Midlands Construction University Technical College (WMCUTC) opened on the site in November 2016, with an Elite Centre for Manufacturing Skills Hub also due to open in January 2018.

Springfield Campus CITY LEARNING QUARTER

Canalside South The main site owners, which comprise the Council, Network Rail and the Canal and River Trust, have come together to form a Partnership to bring forward development. Canalside South will deliver a high quality residential opportunity which can take advantage of its canal setting and position close to the transport interchange. Interchange and Commercial Quarter This is the focus for the City’s commercial office quarter, complemented by a £150m integrated transport interchange hub scheme which is under construction. Following the success of the award winning i10 office, the design of the next office building (i9) is well underway and there are significant other available opportunities identified for new office and other mixed-use developments in the area.
