Beatrice began making beaded handbags, baskets, coasters, and holdalls from recycled T-shirts while living as a refugee in Nairobi, Kenya. In this workshop, you’ll learn to make a colourful beaded coaster, using special beads and stringing materials. BEATRICE NYAMAJANA arrived in Australia with her family in 2015, and has settled in Wodonga. Prior to living as a refugee in Kenya, Beatrice was a teacher in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. ”Wayumarra” is Wiradjuri for “make string”. Local Wiradjuri artist Mick Bogie will share this traditional Aboriginal craft, including the resources used, processing and making. Using natural materials, learn to make string the Wiradjuri way. MICK BOGIE is a talented local Wiradjuri artist who creates art using paint, wood, textiles and natural materials. He is also currently engaged in graduate studies in Wiradjuri Language, Culture and Heritage at Charles Sturt University.
