Be A Writer Sep 11 – Oct 23 (M) 5:30 – 7:30 p.m., $35 Everyone has a story. This course helps you bring that idea to the page. Each session features a writing lesson, writing prompt, and an opportunity for sharing one’s own work, with discussion to follow. Sep 6 – 27 or Oct 2 - 30 (M, W) 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. Single: $30; Family: $45 (up to 4) Before the term “Mixed Martial Arts (MMA)” became the latest buzz word in the world of martial arts, Bushidokan, has long been an advocate for versatile or eclectic training. Bushidokan is a pioneer of martial arts in the U.S. and known for challenging the faults associated with blind allegiance to one particular set of techniques. In all, Bushidokan has borrowed techniques from over 10 different martial arts and three primary systems: Karate, Judo, and Jujitsu. Add in large doses of kickboxing, realistic self-defense, military arts, weapons training, body conditioning and you start to get a pretty good picture of what Bushidokan is all about. All ages are welcome!

Beginner Dog Obedience Sep 14 – Oct 19 (TH) 5:30 – 6:30 p.m., $45 Do you have a new dog, a recent adoption from a shelter, or a young puppy? Do you need some basic instruction on behavior such as sit, come, and lay as well as some fun tricks to bond over? This course will cover jumping, stealing food, potty area skills, leash skills, and focus control. Dogs that can already handle group situations or have a basic understanding of basic commands should enroll in the intermediate class. Do not bring your dog to the first night of class, but do bring the treats you are currently using with your dog, if any. Stress Relief Sep 9 (SA) 9:00 – 11:00 a.m., $12 Stress is an interesting animal. On one hand, it strengthens us. On the other hand, it kills us. Road to 2020 Census

Sep 14 – Oct 19 (TH) 7:00 – 8:30 p.m., $45 Have you owned a few dogs and can get basic behaviors in your home or yard? Is getting your dog to listen around the house nothing you can’t handle? This course will focus on the skills you need to get that kind of obedience and focus in the real world. This class will cover long recalls, long stays, how to heel around other dogs, and other community manners. Do not bring your dog to the first night of class, but do bring the treats you are currently using with your dog, if any. Sep 19 (T) 9:00 − 11:00 a.m., FREE The U.S. Constitution requires that each decade, we take a count or a census of America’s population. The 2020 Census will count every person living in the nation once, only once, and in the right place. In 2020, the Census Bureau is implementing innovations to make it easier than ever to respond to the census. For the first time, people will be able to participate in the census online, by phone, or on paper. We are also building a more accurate address list and automating our field operations − all while keeping information safe and confidential. Come and learn what your community needs to do now to get ready. This meeting will provide an early overview of 2020 Census innovations, timeline, critical geographic program deadlines, and the Community Partnership and Engagement Program outreach plans. City managers, city/county intergovernmental affairs, planners, county, council of government staff, and anyone who will take a lead in getting their city/county ready for the 2020 Census. This course is an entry-level word processing course designed to introduce students to Microsoft Word. Students will learn how to create a Word document, and how to edit, proof, and perform simple formatting of the text and pages.

This introductory course will focus on the use of presentation media software. Students will learn to create high quality, visually pleasing informative presentations. Women as Warriors (Women’s Self Defense) Oct 3 (T), 6:00 – 9:00 p.m., $20 Women as Warriors is a mix of physical training and scholarly learning. Not only will you learn hands-on techniques for threatening situations, this class has the added bonus of classroom work that analyzes FBI personality profiles of common attackers, how to develop a personalized safety plan, and an in-depth discussion about tactics and strategies that make the physical techniques most effective. Passport Passengers Passport Passengers provides an opportunity for senior citizens in our community to come together and learn about travel destinations around the world. Come and share your experiences of your personal travels and learn from those of others. Experience snacks and activities unique to each country. Beginning Sign Language Oct 4 − Nov 8 (W) 6:00 − 8:00 p.m., $30 This course utilizes a practical approach to teaching vocabulary, grammar, everyday applications of sign language, and aspects of Deaf Culture. We work toward becoming familiar and comfortable with grammatical features of American Sign Language and body/facial expressions. This interactive class is for beginners and those who are looking to refresh their expressive and receptive sign skills.

Bicycle Tube & Tire Clinic Mindfulness and Meditation Oct 3-31 (T), 5:30 − 6:45 p.m., $30 Learn the art of mindfulness; meaningful pauses that allow you to take charge of your fears and doubts. Experience the benefits of the relaxation response, a state of mental calm during which your blood pressure drops, your heart and breathing rate slow, and your muscles become less tense. Learn a simple 10 minute relaxation response process, then use it to better cope with life’s stresses, manage pain, and improve mental clarity and focus. Discover the path to your inner most calm with guided meditation techniques. This five week class gives you tools for living a most peaceful and healthier life. Whether you are presently healthy or

Oct 10 (T) 7:30 – 9:00 p.m., $5 Managing tires and tire changes is probably the single most important repair skill. Mastering the task, or at least gaining confidence handling tubes and tires and tire levers will go a good distance toward getting a rider out on the road, and back home again. This clinic will cover the basics of tire changes/repairs in the field. By the end of the clinic you should be able to fix a flat here, there, anywhere. All (most) types of wheels and bikes will be addressed, including how to change the dreaded back wheel with the derailleur. Tools, tires, and bikes will be provided for practice, but people are encouraged to bring their own bike to practice their

hand. The course will also address the various Goat head remedies so that flat tires are hopefully, more or less, a thing of the past. For questions call Kristin Wiebe 308.672.3923. This class is hosted by the West Nebraska Bicycling Club.

Pickleball Oct 11 (W), 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. FREE! Terry Carpenter Center Pickleball is a racquet sport that combines elements of badminton, tennis, and table tennis. Two, three, or four players use solid paddles made of wood or composite materials to hit a perforated polymer ball (similar to a wiffle ball) over a net. The sport shares some features of other racquet sports; the dimensions and layout of a badminton court, net and rules are similar to tennis with a few modifications. Get an excellent workout while having a great time! The game is great for both novice and experienced sports participants. Don’t miss the opportunity to experience an excellent exercise activity, meet new friends, and have fun!

This course is an entry-level spreadsheet course. Students learn to use simple formulas, format a spreadsheet, create a chart, and link worksheets together. Application projects vary to meet the needs of the class.

This course focuses on learning the fundamentals of using the newest version of Windows.If you recently received or purchased a new computer, this course is for you! Students learn how to use Microsoft Windows 10, including stepby-step instructions on navigating the user interface, working with Windows 10 apps, managing files and folders, using security tools, and managing devices. Students are welcome to bring their own laptop.

Remembering WWI: Its Lasting Influences Into the 21st Century Interest in World War II remains high with the public; however, most of the civilian and government programs, military innovations, use of media, gender roles, and world involvement, to name a few, did not begin with this war. It began with the first World War that set into motion the 20th century, and its ramifications are felt well in to the 21st century. In April 2017, the U.S. commemorated its 100th anniversary involvement in this “war to end all wars.”

This course focuses on the use of spreadsheet software to understand the principles in using complex formulas and functions, creating macros, multi-level sorting, filtering data, chart enhancements, and retrieving data on the World Wide Web. Students are required to bring a flash drive to this class.


Publisher 2016 Nov 7 – Nov 21 (T, TH) 6:00 – 9:00 p.m., $115 (Gold card, $17.50)

Do you create a newsletter for your company, church, or another organization? Do you want to create fliers and brochures? This beginning Publisher class shows you how to do that and so much more. Learn to combine graphics and text to produce a variety of projects. Classes are small, resulting in individualized attention and projects. Students must bring a USB Flash drive to this class.

Bob Ross Painting Bob Ross believed that everyone who wanted to paint, could paint like a natural with the right tools and a little encouragement. Come and experience the joy and confidence of painting a beautiful landscape using the Ross wet-on-wet technique. Students must bring a roll of paper towels to this class.

Fun With Drones: What You Need to Know to Buy and Fly! Nov 14 & 21 (T) 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., $20 A recreational drone is the perfect holiday gift this year for the budding flyer! Learn about the different types of drones, how to choose and purchase a drone, and what you can and can’t do with a drone. There will be a demonstration of several different drones and a chance for some hands on flying. Bring your own drone! Meet other drone enthusiasts! Bill Loring and Tracy O’Neal, local drone enthusiasts, will lead the class.

True Colors Nov 15 (W), 8:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., $20 Have you ever wondered why you are immediately drawn to certain people and dislike others? Do the actions of some people drive you crazy? Do you sometimes have trouble understanding your spouse, children, or grandchildren? It could be personality type. Come to this class and find out your true color! You could be a gold, blue, green, or orange. By exploring these four personality types, you will learn to recognize your personal strengths and those of others, understand and build rapport with others, communicate with different people, and accept those who are different from you. It’s a fun way to find out why your sock drawer is organized or not; whether you like that group hug or not; why you answer questions with a question or not; why you like being the center of attention or not. Come and learn to see people in a new light.

Imagine, explore, discover and create products using a variety of paint. Students will use puff paint, neon paint, liquid watercolors, pearl paints, glitter paint, and glow-in-the-dark paint. Learn how to incorporate painting techniques such as: wet-on-wet, wax and glue resist, and splattering. Create unique texture designs in paint using salt, scraping tools, cellophane and more! Each day will be a new masterpiece!

CSI: Crime Scene Investigations Oct 9 – 12

Are you a sleuth? Do you want to become one? If you want to learn more about solving crime, this is the course for you! Meet crime-fighting professionals and learn their secrets. Learn the art of fingerprinting, hair analysis, and other trace evidence left at the scene of the crime.

Are you a master Lego builder? Would you like to be? This course encourages you to explore your creativity and skills. Float boats, race cars, construct cities, and build fortresses. This course is sure to be a delightful experience for young chefs. Several educational skills are enhanced as they share stories, participate in cooking exercises, learn science concepts, and develop good work habits as they work cooperatively in groups. What better motivator for learning than a good story and fun food?

Space Camp Nov 27 – 30

To infinity and beyond! This course is all about space! Learn about the entire universe: the solar system, planets, the sun, moons, stars, and constellations. Create a variety of representations of the solar system.

Duct Tape Dynasty Oct 23 – 26

Do you want to make slime or play with mud? In this course, create things that ooze, bounce, and squish! Take part in a number of hands-on gooey, gross, and green fun science and art projects.

Duck tape solves everything, right? Use duct tape to decorate jars, composition books, pencil pouches, pencils, and more. We also create items such as pouches, wallets, flowers, and bracelets using only tape.

Cupcakes are simply irresistible single servings of delicious cakes and frosting dressed up in perfect little packages. In this course, student chefs participate in a number “challenges” to see who is the “boss” of each challenge. Some of the challenges are individual challenges and some are group challenges. A holiday flare will be added to this course.

Connect with K’NEX Dec 11 – 14

K’NEX: where creativity clicks. In this course, students use K’NEX pieces to create a multitude of projects. Create catapults and then participate in the great catapult challenge to see how far you can catapult marshmallows. Create other projects such as carnival rides, vehicles and bridges.

No school? No worries! Join in on the fun at one of these exciting day classes! Fun With Food: Penguins, Swimmers and Floaters Oct 27 (F), 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. $7, Ages 8 and older All materials are provided

Learn to use food in different ways to impress your friends and family! Make penguins, swimmers (like an octopus and turtle), floaters (like boats) and sinkers (like submarines). You will create some of these to take home; there will be many other ideas you can see and jot down. Come have Fun With Food!

Hot Glue Halloween Fun Oct 27 (F), 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. $17, Ages 12 and older

Do you have a friend you’d like to give a unique, handmade gift? Or maybe some decorations for a wreath of a tree? What about a pin for mom’s coat or dad’s hat? Join us in creating keepsakes made from colored hot glue. All materials are provided including glue sticks and a glue gun for you to take home! Jack-o-lanterns, wreaths, Christmas trees, a longhorn steer, and a buffalo are just a few things you can learn to make!

Learn how to use different foods to make edible goodies to complement your holiday meals, or maybe just make some fun snacks; things like bunnies in cars, hot dog hearts and spider chip cookies! Make treats to take home! There will also be more finished foods to see and pictures and websites to reference.

WHAT IS SKILLS FREE? A new Nebraska financial aid program for low-income students who receive tuition assistance for non-credit courses that lead to jobs in high-demand fields. Skills Free is also available for those already employed, and can be used to enhance skills to achieve career advancement. Receive high-quality hands-on training that results in industryrecognized credentials for students seeking new employment or job upgrans. Training is offered in a variety of skill areas. Since non-credit programs are not eligible for federal financial aid, this program is designed to bridge the funding gap for individuals who meet program and income guidlines to complete short-term training programs.

The Adult Education program at WNCC focuses on preparing students for a successful future. Preparing for life is more than just earning a diploma or learning to speak English. The Adult Education program aims to provide the tools for greater academic, professional, and personal success. All Adult Education students are enrolled in the new Journey to Success Class, where they will explore career opportunities, identify their dream careers, and create a detailed path to follow as they journey forward. This class is designed to build a strong foundation of problem solving, analytical thinking, and organization skills, as well as teach strategies for producing greater academic success. After completing this course, students move into the appropriate GED classes or English as a Second Language (ESL) classes.
