In all, Bushidokan has borrowed techniques from over 10 different martial arts and three primary systems: Karate, Judo and Jujitsu. Add in large doses of kick boxing, realistic self-defense, military arts, weapons training, body conditioning and you start to get a pretty good picture of what Bushidokan is all about. Bushidokan is a pioneer of martial arts in the U.S. and known for challenging the faults associated with blind allegiance to one particular set of techniques.

This is a handson workshop to help you understand causes of low back pain so you can be proactive in taking care of your back and keeping it mobile. Come dressed for activity! We practice exercises that strengthen abdominals and the rest of the core, as well as stretch the low back and hamstrings.

How to Use Essential Oils for Everyday Living Aug 24 (TH), 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. $12, Harms Center Essential oils are literally everywhere. But not all oils are created equal or should be used in the same ways. In this workshop, learn what to look for in oils, and when and how to use them. Start to incorporate oils into your everyday life confidently.

Sep 12 – Oct 19 (TH) 7:00 – 8:30 p.m., $45 Harms Center Have you owned a few dogs and can get basic behaviors in your home or yard? Is getting your dog to listen around the house nothing you can’t handle? This course will focus on the skills you need to get that kind of obedience and focus in the real world. This class will cover long recalls, long stays, how to heel around other dogs, and other community manners. Do not bring your dog to the first night of class, but do bring the treats you are currently using with your dog, if any. If you have specific questions about your dog’s appropriateness for this class, please call 308.635.6700.

Sep 9 (SA), 9:00 – 11:00 a.m., $12 Stress is an interesting animal. On one hand, it strengthens us. On the other hand it kills us. This is a hands-on workshop to understand what stress is, how the stress response works, and different ways to invite in a relaxation response. Come comfortably dressed and ready for interaction.

Harms Center This introductory course will focus on the use of presentation media software. Students will learn to create high quality, visually pleasing informative presentations. They will edit and format slides; work with clip art, pictures and Word Art; use drawing tools; work with tables and charts, and prepare and run a slide show.

Sep 11 – Oct 23 (M), 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. $35, Harms Center Everyone has a story. This course helps you bring that idea to the page. Each session features a writing lesson, writing prompt, and an opportunity for sharing one’s own work, with discussion to follow. Previous students have received honorable mention in writing contests, and seen their work published after gaining confidence in this class. Lessons are based on the book The Right To Write, by Julia Cameron, but the book is not required.

Sep 12 – Oct 19 (TH) 5:30 – 6:30 p.m., $45 Harms Center Do you have a new dog, a recent adoption from a shelter, or a young puppy? Do you need some basic instruction on behavior such as sit, come, and lay as well as some fun tricks to bond over? This course will cover jumping, stealing food, potty area skills, leash skills, and focus control. Dogs that can already handle group situations or have a basic understanding of basic commands should enroll in the intermediate class. Do not bring your dog to the first night of class, but do bring the treats you are currently using with your dog, if any. Harms Center This course is an entry-level word processing course designed to introduce students to Microsoft Word. Students will learn how to create a Word document, and how to edit, proof, and perform simple formatting of the text and pages.

Be Happy, Live Longer Sep 27 (W), 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., $10 Harms Center Being happy, laughing, and having a positive attitude will add years to your life. The quest for true happiness is not really a quest at all, but a decision and a choice. Explore 10 simple ways to find happiness and enrich your life. Do you realize that you need to laugh at least 15 minutes a day to help maintain good health? Laughter not only helps us feel more alive and empowered mentally, but it has many physical benefits as well. Some of these include boosting the immune center, counteracting the harmful effects of stress, relaxing the muscles, improving circulation, and providing natural pain relief. You will connect with your three centers of laughter and change

your attitude in 45 seconds. Learn the six daily practices to prevent hardening of the attitudes to develop a more cheerful and optimistic outlook on life. Come have fun as you experience how to be happy, to laugh, and to change your attitude.

Pickleball Oct 11 (W), 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. FREE! Terry Carpenter Center Pickleball is a racquet sport that combines elements of badminton, tennis, and table tennis. Two, three, or four players use solid paddles made of wood or composite materials to hit a perforated polymer ball (similar to a wiffle ball) over a net. The sport shares some features of other racquet sports; the dimensions and layout of a badminton court, net and rules are similar to tennis with a few modifications. Get an excellent workout while having a great time! The game is great for both novice and experienced sports participants. Don’t miss the opportunity to experience an excellent exercise activity, meet new friends, and have fun!

Harms Center This course is an entry-level spreadsheet course. Students learn to use simple formulas, format a spreadsheet, create a chart, and link worksheets together. Application projects vary to meet the needs of the class.

Harms Center This course focuses on learning the fundamentals of using the newest version of Windows. If you recently received or purchased a new computer, this course is for you! Students learn how to use Microsoft Windows 10, including stepby-step instructions on navigating the user interface, working with Windows 10 apps, managing files and folders, using security tools, and managing devices. Students are welcome to bring their own laptop.

Fun With Smartphone & Digital Photography! Oct 17 & 24 (T) 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., $15 Harms Center Do you want to take better photos? This class will help develop your photography skills by introducing the basic rules of composition and lighting and how to avoid common photo mistakes. Bring your smartphone or camera. This course is taught by Bill Loring, who has 15 years of experience as a professional photographer, and is a full time Information Technology instructor for WNCC.


Remembering World War I: Its Lasting Influences Into the 21st Century Interest in World War II remains high with the public; however, most of the civilian and government programs, military innovations, use of media, gender roles, and world involvement, to name a few, did not begin with this war. It began with the first World War that set into motion the 20th century, and its ramifications are felt well in to the 21st century. In April 2017, the U.S. commemorated its 100th anniversary involvement in this “war to end all wars.” Coming this fall on Monday afternoons! 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. John N. Nov 15 (W), 8:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., $20 Harms Center Have you ever wondered why you are immediately drawn to certain people and dislike others? Do the actions of some people drive you crazy? Do you sometimes have trouble understanding your spouse, children, or grandchildren? It could be personality type. Come to this class and find out your true color! You could be a gold, blue, green, or orange. By exploring these four personality types, you will learn to recognize your personal strengths and those of others, understand and build rapport with others, communicate with different people, and accept those who are different from you. It’s a fun way to find out why your sock drawer is organized or not; whether you like that group hug or not; why you answer questions with a question or not; why you like being the center of attention or not. Come and learn to see people in a new light.

Harms Center This course focuses on the use of spreadsheet software to understand the principles in using complex formulas and functions, creating macros, multi-level sorting, filtering data, chart enhancements, and retrieving data on the World Wide Web. Students are required to bring a flash drive to this class.

Harms Center Do you create a newsletter for your company, church, or another organization? Do you want to create fliers and brochures? This beginning Publisher class shows you how to do that and so much more. Learn to combine graphics and text to produce a variety of Publisher projects. Classes are small resulting in individualized attention and projects. Students must bring a USB Flash drive to this class.

Fun With Drones: What You Need to Know to Buy and Fly! Nov 14 & 21 (T) 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., $20 Harms Center A recreational drone is the perfect Christmas present this year for the budding flyer! Learn about the different types of drones, how to choose and purchase a drone, and what you can and can’t do with a drone. There will be a demonstration of several different drones and a chance for some hands on flying. Bring your own drone! Meet other drone enthusiasts! Bill Loring and Tracy O’Neal, local drone enthusiasts, will lead the class.

Bob Ross believed that everyone who wanted to paint, could paint like a natural with the right tools and a little encouragement. Come and experience the joy and confidence of painting a beautiful landscape using the Ross wet-on-wet technique. Students must bring a roll of paper towels to this class.

Hot Glue Your Holidays Business & Community Education Looking for a gift for somebody who seems to have everything? Perhaps a small “just because” gift? Create something that is unique, inexpensive and thoughtful. Learn to make things with colored hot glue using patterns, and then design your own! After the last session, you will havea hot glue gun, glue sticks and your own original creations to take home. Class size is limited to 20. The Adult Education program at WNCC focuses on preparing students for a successful future. Preparing for life is more than just earning a diploma or learning to speak English. The Adult Education program aims to provide the tools for greater academic, professional, and personal success. All Adult Education students are enrolled in the new Journey to Success Class, where they will explore career opportunities, identify their dream careers, and create a detailed path to follow as they journey forward. This class is designed to build a strong foundation of problem solving, analytical thinking, and organization skills, as well as teach strategies for producing greater academic success. After completing this course, students move into the appropriate GED classes or English as a Second Language (ESL) classes.
