When should I make a reservation? • Interactive Student Programs, Extended Interactive Student Programs and Student Workshops must be reserved at least two weeks in advance.

Reservation staff is available Monday – Friday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. During non-business hours, please leave a message with your name and phone number. Calls will be returned as soon as possible. Leaving a voice message or an email in the Reservation mailbox is not a confirmed reservation. 20

When are student programs available and how much do they cost? • Programs are available on specific days of the week as noted i n the descriptions found in this guide. • Interactive Student Programs are 45 minutes; $1.50 per person and are presented at 9:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. • Extended Interactive Student Programs are 90 minutes; $2.00 per person and are presented at 9:30 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. • Student Workshops are 2.5 hrs.; $2.50 per person and are presented from 9:30 a.m. – Noon.

What are the minimum requirements to receive the Student Group Admission Rate? • 15 people per group; no less than 13 students and two adults • One adult chaperone for every 10 students Please note: one adult chaperone will be admitted free with every 10 students. Each additional adult will be charged at the student group rate.

• Self-guided visits that do not include any fee-based programs must be reserved at least eight days in advance.

The Witte Museum offers three types of student programs focusing on natural history, South Texas heritage and STEM-related science. Student programs at the Witte are learner-centered, inquiry-based and enhance classroom curriculum through hands-on activities. They provide multi-sensory experiences, promote cooperative learning, foster critical thinking in science, art and history, encourage creativity and invite interactions with the real thing: specimens, artifacts and works of art! All Witte student programs are connected to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, or TEKS.

ourney hrough Fiesta’s Coronation March 7-May 3, 2015 Kathleen and Curtis Gunn Gallery Delve into the unique, cross-cultural blend of South Texas traditions that celebrate the legacy of the Battle of San Jacinto. Explore primary sources from a historic Coronation ceremony, as well as floats from past Battle of Flowers parades in the Witte’s largestever Fiesta exhibit, Jewels of the Court: A Journey through Fiesta’s Coronation. This exhibit complements the TEKS in History, Culture and Social Studies Skills, connecting students’ local cultural experiences to the classroom curriculum.

Healing Beauty: Medicinal Plants by Mary Motz Wills January 24 – April 5, 2015 Laura and Sam Dawson Gallery at the South Texas Heritage Center The Witte Museum celebrates the artistic and scientific legacy of renowned botanical watercolorist Mary Motz Wills through an exploration of native Texas plants and their medicinal uses. Discover the importance of plants in health and wellness practices of the 19th century with your students. Discover the Ice Age May 23 – September 7, 2015 Kathleen and Curtis Gunn Gallery Discover the Ice Age is an exciting and educational exhibition about life during the Earth’s last ice age featuring fossils, casts and scientifically accurate life-size animatronic models of animals from mammoths to saber-tooth cats.

DiscovEARy Zone March 25 – 29, 2015 Tune in for this exciting exhibit that explores hearing loss and ear health. Explore how sound waves travel and learn tips to protect yourself from hearing loss throughout life in this highly interactive exhibition. This exhibit supports health IQ, empowerment and wellness topics, complementing a visit to the H-E-B Body Adventure!

Students learn how to make healthy food choices, delve into the five food groups, and practice creating energizing and flavorful snacks!

Grades 3-5 Put Your Heart Into It!

Maximum 35 students How important is it to have a healthy heart? Students take a close look at how the human heart works, take their own pulse, explore heart-healthy habits, and learn how to make heart-healthy food choices.

Permanent Exhibitions H-E-B Body Adventure Powered by University Health System The H-E-B Body Adventure Powered by University Health System at the Witte Museum provides four floors of interactive exhibits and educational programming focusing on Health IQ, Empowerment and Wellness.

B. Naylor Morton Research and Collection Center With 300,000 artifacts collected over 88 years, the B. Naylor Morton Research and Collections Center now offers a permanent storage to house these historical objects. The Center includes an Orientation Gallery, a library and archives; a visitor lobby; research rooms; and a Texas Art Gallery. Discover the diversity, beauty and wonder of the Witte Collections.

Robert J. and Helen C. Kleberg South Texas Heritage Center Housed in the South Texas Heritage center, A Wild and Vivid Land: Stories of South Texas blends artifacts and real-life stories to help your students trace the legendary history of San Antonio and South Texas.

The Little Treehouse Crafted by artist Carlos Cortez, it looks like a real tree, but is it? Look closely! Use a viewfinder to check out the animals and plants living in and around the San Antonio River.

WaterWorks WaterWorks, located just outside the H-E-B Body Adventure, explores ways to move and divert water, one of the most important resources in South Texas.

River Alive! Get your hands wet while exploring the aquatic life of the San Antonio River at the River Alive! touch tank, a self-guided permanent investigation station. Find out about the invertebrates that call the river home and why water quality is important to our health and the health of the river. 11
